7 scientists develop new AI framework for personalized cancer therapy

Scientists at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences  have developed   an  artificial intelligence (AI) framework that  could completely transform the  way cancer is understood and treated . According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, this research  is a significant step towards  personalized cancer therapy . Developed in collaboration with  Ashoka University,  this AI framework understands cancer not just by its size or spread, but by its molecular personality . “Cancer is not just a disease of a growing tumor. There are hidden biological programs at work, called hallmarks of cancer. These hallmarks reveal how healthy cells become malignant, how they evade the body’s immunity, and how they resist treatment.” For many years, doctors have relied primarily on staging systems like TNM, which measure the size and spread of tumors. But these systems often don’t explain why two patients with the same stage may have different outcomes. The new AI framework, OncoMark, can read this molecular behavior and predict the cancer’s future behavior. The team at the SN Bose Centre, led by Dr. Shubhasis Haldar and Dr. Debayan Gupta, used OncoMark to analyze 3.1 million single cells from 14 types of cancer. SN Bose is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The researchers also created synthetic “pseudo-biopsies” representing hallmark-driven tumor states. This helped the AI learn how hallmarks such as metastasis, immune evasion, and genomic instability interact to drive tumor growth and treatment resistance. OncoMark demonstrated over 99 percent accuracy in internal testing and above 96 percent in five independent cohorts. It was validated on 20,000 patient samples, demonstrating its broad utility. According to the research, published in Nature’s journal Communications Biology, this framework can identify which hallmarks are active in a patient’s tumor, allowing doctors to select drugs that target those biological processes.

9 Major administrative changes in Delhi, 13 districts will be created instead of 11.

Delhi  is preparing for a major administrative restructuring, as the government  moves  to increase the number of revenue districts from 11 to 13. Approved in principle by  the Delhi Cabinet  , this restructuring aims to simplify governance, decentralize administration, and bring essential government services closer to citizens. The changes reflect the capital’s changing demographic needs and the growing demand for faster, more accessible public services. To strengthen local governance,  the number of subdivisions (SDM offices)  will be increased from  33 to 39. This will eliminate the need for citizens to travel long distances for certificates, mutations, registrations, and other essential services.

10 Amur Falcon: The eagle traveled 6,000 kilometers

Every autumn  ,  the skies over Northeast India  witness a remarkable natural spectacle—tens of thousands of  Amur Falcons  depart on their uniquely long migratory flight.   These tiny falcons,  weighing about 150 grams,  cover  5,000 to 6,000 kilometers in less than a week, crossing the vast Arabian Sea  nonstop  on their way to Africa . On November 11, scientists from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) fitted lightweight transmitters, weighing approximately 3.5–4 grams—well below the safe limit of 3% of the birds’ body weight—to three Amur falcons. These marked birds—Apang (male), Alang (young female), and Aahu (adult female)—began their migratory journey the very next day.  Their journeys were nothing short of extraordinary
Apang  covered 6,100 km in 6 days and 8 hours, crossing central India and the Arabian Sea to reach Tanzania.
Alang  flew 5,600 km in 6 days and 14 hours, reaching Kenya.
Aahu , which took a slightly different route via Bangladesh and the Arabian Sea, flew 5,100 km in 5 days and rested in Somalia.
