1.Nobel Prize 2021 for Economics announced

2.Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2021

The Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2021 is released by the “ United Nations Development Program (UNDP) ” and “ Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) ”. The report examines the level and structure of multidimensional poverty, covering 5.9 billion people in 109 countries. It also takes into account the many deprivations that people experience in their daily lives such as poor health, inadequate education and poor living standards. According to this report, 1.3 billion people are multidimensionally poor.of which approximately 644 million are children under the age of 18. 85% of them live in sub-Saharan Africa (556 million) and South Asia (532 million). 67% of the poor live in middle-income countries. 1 billion poor living with cooking fuel, inadequate sanitation and substandard housing. The Scheduled Tribes group, which accounts for 9.4% of the population, is the poorest in India. Of the 129 million people, 65 million are living in multidimensional poverty. Of the 283 million SC groups, 94 million are living in multidimensional poverty.

3.UN Human Rights Council recognizes ‘right to clean environment’

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) unanimously voted to recognize a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a universal right . This right was granted by the UNHRC on October 8, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland.was recognized in. Once this right is recognized by all, it will be the first of its kind in the 70 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The right to a clean environment was first enshrined in the 1972 Stockholm Declaration. The resolution emphasizes the “right to life, liberty and security” of human rights defenders working in environmental affairs. They are known as environmental human rights defenders. The Clean Environment resolution was passed by the Human Rights Council. The resolution also called on countries to boost their abilities to improve the environment. It was passed 43-0.

4.India agrees $200 million LoC to support Kyrgyzstan

According to the data of the Central Electricity Authority of India , India is facing an unprecedented shortage of coal reserves in thermal plants, leading to power crisis.may be born. As of 5 October, 106 of the total 135 thermal plants using coal for electricity generation, or about 80%, were in either the critical or supercritical stage. These power plants had stock only for the next 6-7 days. As of now, three thermal power stations in Punjab, 13 in Maharashtra, 4 in Kerala are closed due to shortage of coal. Although Union Power Minister R.K. Singh said that there is no shortage of electricity in Delhi. He also assured that the supply of coal would continue in the times to come. The Coal Ministry also said that India has enough coal reserves. According to the Coal Ministry, low inventory does not mean that power generation will stop as the coal stock is being continuously replenished. Possible reasons for shortage of coal in India include-

  1. Excessive rainfall, affecting the movement of coal.
  2. Imported coal-fired power plants are producing less than half of their capacity due to high prices.
  3. The economy is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic as demand for electricity increases.
  4. Coal based thermal power plants have supplied a high proportion of the increase in demand. The share of thermal power has increased from 61.9% in 2019 to 66.4%.
  5. Slow imports coupled with higher international coal prices have led to import cuts.

7.India and UK sign Forward Action Plan on Energy

Telangana State Election Commission has planned to dry run the “ Mobile Based E-Voting System ”. The development of this system is guided by the need to conduct elections in India amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The system, if successful, will facilitate voting using a smartphone from home. The dry run will take place on October 20 in Telangana’s Khammam district. This will be India’s first smartphone based e-voting process. Voters can register themselves for the dry run between October 8 and 18 using a smartphone application. The mobile based e-voting system will use artificial intelligence for three-factor authentication of a valid voter. The system will match the voter’s name with Aadhaar, trace individual viability and image matching using the EPIC database containing nearly 20 years old records.

The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Purushottam Rupala launched the River Ranching Program on October 8, 2021 . The program was launched at Brijghat, Garh Mukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh . Along with Uttar Pradesh, other 4 states Orissa, Uttarakhand, Tripura and Chhattisgarh have launched ‘ Nationwide River Animal Husbandry Programme’Participated in the launch of ‘. In Uttar Pradesh, around 500 people participated in the launch of the river animal husbandry program at the national level. One lakh fingerlings (a type of fish) were bred at Chandi Ghat of river Ganga in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. River farming program was started as a special activity under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme to enhance fish production and productivity by productively expanding, deepening, diversifying and using land and water. National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad is the nodal agency under the central component of PMMSY. This board is designated by the “Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries”.

Recently the Meghalaya government has claimed that a detoxing pilot project has revived the dying Lukha river . The Lukha river was considered toxic a decade ago as the river was contaminated due to the drainage of acid deposits and its effluent from coal mines. PhytoremediationThe method was used for river detoxification, using algae to remove major toxins from the water. This pilot project was started under the District Mineral Fund after reports of low pH levels affecting the aquatic life in the river. Most living organisms, especially aquatic life, function at an optimum pH range of 6.5 to 8.5. pH is a measure of how acidic/basic the water is. This range ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. A pH less than 7 indicates acidity, while a pH greater than 7 indicates a base. The pH of water is a very important measurement in relation to water quality. The Lukha flows in the southern part of Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills where most of Meghalaya’s rat-hole coal mines are located. It has become a victim of continuous large-scale mining of coal and limestone,

13.FICCI forecasts 9.1% GDP growth for FY22

India’s GDP is expected to grow at 9.1 per cent in 2021-22 as the economic recovery appears to be tightening its grip after the second wave of the pandemic. The survey was conducted in September 2021 and received responses from leading economists representing industry, banking and financial services sectors. FICCI’s Economic Outlook Survey also said that the current festive season will support this momentum.

Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd (RNESL) , a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) , has acquired 100% stake in Chinese state-owned solar power company REC Solar Holdings AS (REC Group) .has achieved. RNESL has acquired REC Group from China National Bluestar (Group) Company Limited for an enterprise value of $771 million. This acquisition will enable Reliance to move closer to achieving its target of generating 100GW of solar power by 2030, and in turn, support the country’s global target of producing 450GW of renewable energy by 2030. REC Group has three manufacturing facilities, two in Norway to manufacture solar-grade polysilicon and one in Singapore to manufacture PV cells and modules. With this acquisition, RNESL will become the owner of three manufacturing facilities of REL.
