1. New projects approved for the revival of 6 polluted rivers in Uttarakhand
- Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga ( NMCG ) chaired the 36th Executive Committee meeting of NMCG and approved new projects for the rejuvenation of 6 polluted rivers of Uttarakhand . The proposals of the Uttarakhand State Mission for the polluted stretches of these rivers were reviewed and finalized by the NMCG and the proposal was also sent to the Election Commission today for consideration of these plans. The projects sanctioned include work on “Interception and Diversion (I&D) and 6 STPs. The polluted Bhela, Dhela, Kichha, Kosi, Nandhaur, Pilakhar and Kashipur rivers will be rejuvenated.
2. Requirement of male guardian for women participating in Haj abolished
- According to Saudi Arabia‘s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah , women can no longer perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage without a male guardian ( macar ).can register for. As per the Haj Registration Guidelines for Domestic Pilgrims, women do not require a male guardian for registration, And they can register with other women. Women wishing to perform Haj will have to register in person. India had announced in 2017 by the Modi government that women can go for Haj without a male companion. Muslim women were also exempted from the mahram and lottery system. The annual five-day Hajj pilgrimage has begun in Saudi Arabia. Due to the Corona epidemic, the number of people coming to Haj has been drastically cut. The Saudi Arabian government has restricted the Hajj pilgrimage to local people only. In this, only those people of 18 to 65 years of age who have got Kovid vaccine can participate. The Saudi government has made strict arrangements to prevent the spread of corona among Haj pilgrims. In the year 2019, about 25 lakh people participated in the Haj pilgrimage. Of these, two lakh were Indians.

4. Registration process formalized with an aim to preserve very old vehicles- Nitin Gadkari
- Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkarihas said that with an aim to preserve very old vehicles , the government has formalized the registration process . He said that there is no rule for regulation of old vehicles in the states, so with the new rules, registration of such vehicles can be done without any hesitation. Shri Gadkari said that old numbers of such vehicles would be retained and VA series would be allotted for their registration afresh . This facility will be available for such two wheelers and four wheelers which are more than fifty years old which are present in their original form and in which no significant changes have been made. The state administration will issue a certificate for their registration within two months. These vehicles will not be allowed to be driven on the road for normal purposes.
5. Train operation between India’s Jaynagar and Nepal’s Kurtha was successfully tested

This railway section will be built in two phases. The 17-km-long second section of the rail project will connect Kurtha and Bhangah, while the third phase will be between Bhangah and Bardiwas. Indian Railways has provided two modern DEMU trains to Nepal for Jaynagar Kurtha rail connectivity. It is worth noting that Nepalese trains have operated from Jaynagar to Janakpur in Nepal till the year 2014. This rail service is considered to be the lifeline of the people of both the countries. In the year 2010, the Government of India had approved Rs 548 crore for the conversion of narrow gauge to meter gauge and laying a new railway line in a distance of 69.5 km from Jaynagar to Vardiwas in Nepal under the Maitree scheme.

7. Amazon rainforest emits more CO2 than it absorbs: Study
- According to a study published in the journal ‘ Nature‘ , some parts of the Amazon rainforest have as much carbon dioxideabsorbs, emits more. The study was conducted from 600 flights in four regions of the Amazon. It was led by researchers from the Brazil National Institute for Space Research to collect data on the amount of carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere. According to this research, the role of the Amazon rainforest as a carbon sink is decreasing. This can devastate ecosystems and is a troubling sign for the fight against climate change. Changes in the Amazon are being driven by factors such as deforestation, wildfires and climate change. According to this study, the four regions were emitting 410 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year. This emission was the result of fire, which is often intentionally started by humans. 9. First case of monkeypox reported in Texas
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention( CDC ), the first case of rare human monkeypox was reported in Texas . Monkeypox was diagnosed in a US resident who had recently traveled from Nigeria to the US. Although it is a rare viral disease, it does not currently pose a threat to the public. According to laboratory testing at the CDC, the patient is infected with a strain of monkeypox that is commonly found in parts of West Africa, including Nigeria. A fatal infection from this strain of monkeypox occurs in 1 in 100 people. Prior to this case, 6 cases of monkeypox have been reported in travelers returning from Nigeria in the United Kingdom, Israel and Singapore.
10. Integrated Rating for State Power Distribution Utilities introduced
- Power Minister K. Singhsaid Power Financial Corporation ( Power Finance Corporation – PFC ) of the 36th Foundation Day of the state power distribution units in New Delhi on the occasion of the 9th Integrated Ratingissued. Releasing the Integrated Rating for State Power Distribution Utilities, the Minister underlined that, Annual Integrated Rating exercise for the rating period 2019-20 covering 41 State Power Distribution Utilities with participation of all utilities has been completed. According to the minister, the Indian power sector will benefit from a fair and accurate assessment of the true status of the distribution sector. It will also help in assessing and improving performance. The exercise will also assist the State Governments, lending institutions and other stakeholders in taking important decisions.
11. SEBI introduces ‘expected loss-based’ rating scale
- Indian Security Exchange Board( Security Exchange Board Of India – SEBI ) had ” expected loss-based rating scale ” ( Expected Loss-Based Rating Scale) has introduced a new framework. Under this new framework, credit rating agencies are required to provide requisite loss-based ratings for projects and equipment that are linked to the infrastructure sector. The expected loss-based rating introduced by SEBI is divided into a scale of seven levels. This new scale will be used by credit rating agencies to rate projects or equipment related to the infrastructure sector. All the provisions in the latest circular will be applicable to credit rating agencies with ‘immediate effect’ except the provision relating to standardization of rating scales. The circular was issued in exercise of the powers under section 11(1) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992.
