1 Operation Sindoor: Indian Army targeted terrorist camps

In response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam , Jammu and Kashmir  ,   India has carried out a major military action named  ‘ Operation Sindoor ‘  . Indian armed forces  carried out precision attacks on terrorist bases  in  Pakistan  and  Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) late on Tuesday night  . Its purpose was to eliminate those terrorist camps which were engaged in planning and carrying out attacks on India.  A total of 9 places  have been targeted under this operation. The Indian Army carried out this operation in a very restrained, limited and non-escalatory manner. The special thing was that no Pakistani military establishment was attacked. The government said that India has shown restraint in the selection of targets and the entire process of the operation.

 2 Gaganyaan mission is in its final stage, India’s first manned mission will go to space in 2027

India’s first manned space mission “Gaganyaan”  has now entered its final phase. Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that India  will send  its  astronauts into space from Indian soil through indigenous rockets in the first quarter of 2027. The first unmanned tests under this mission have been successfully completed,  including TV-D1 (Test Vehicle Demo-1)  . The next test TV-D2 mission will be by the end of 2025 and after this there will be unmanned orbital flights of Gaganyaan. Dr. Singh informed that  the testing and integration of LVM3 rocket, crew escape system, crew module and service module for the mission are in the final stages  . Recovery trials have been done with the Indian Navy and there will be more sea recovery exercises going forward. 3 Free trade agreement between India and UK completed

India and the United Kingdom (UK)  have signed a major economic agreement. Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  announced on Tuesday that India and the UK have signed an ambitious and mutually beneficial economic agreement.  Free Trade Agreement (FTA)  . He called it a ‘historic achievement’. The announcement was made along with a Double Taxation Avoidance Convention, which will help boost trade and investment between the two countries.

 4 The length of India’s coastline was revised to 11,098.81 km after the updated methodology

In April 2025 as per  Survey of India (SoI) data, the length of India’s coastline was officially  updated to 11,098.81 kilometres (km), up  from 7,516.60 km recorded since the 1970s.  . The revision follows a multi-year scientific review led by the Dehradun (Uttarakhand)-based National Hydrographic Organisation (NHO) in coordination with the SoI. As per the updated measurements, among states, Gujarat has the longest coastline, while Goa has the shortest. Among Union Territories (UTs), Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) islands have the longest and Puducherry has the shortest. For decades, different government departments used different coastline data due to outdated measurement methods. The Coastal Protection and Development Advisory Committee (CPDAC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), New Delhi (Delhi) began addressing this issue in its 11th meeting (2010). During its 16th meeting (16 July 2019), CPDAC accepted the revised coastline length of 11,084.50 km of NHO, calculated using advanced hydrographic data. On August 10, 2023, the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), New Delhi finalised the updated Terms of Reference (TOR) for maritime standardisation. This revised length of 11,098.81 km was accepted during a meeting held with representatives of coastal States/UTs and other stakeholders in January 2024 at NSCS, New Delhi (Delhi).

5 India’s GDP growth rate is expected to be 6.3% in 2025: Moody’s

Global credit rating agency Moody’s  on Tuesday  projected India’s GDP growth rate to be 6.3 per cent in 2025  and expects the country’s economy to pick up pace and  grow by   6.5 per cent  in 2026.  Moody’s forecast is in line with the IMF’s outlook  , which sees India  as the only major economy in the world   to register  a growth rate of more than 6 per cent in 2025. “Uncertainty over global economic policies is likely to weigh on consumer, business and financial activity,” Moody’s said in the May update of its Global Macro Outlook. The rating agency had earlier projected a growth rate of 6.5 per cent for India. Moody’s said that despite the US tariff cuts, policy uncertainty and trade tensions between the US and China could impact global trade and investment, which could also impact G-20 countries.

6 India will become the world’s fourth largest economy in 2025

 India’s GDP will overtake Japan in 2025 to become  the fourth largest economy in the world .  This information was given in  the World Economic Outlook April 2025  released by  the International Monetary Fund (IMF) . According to the report, India’s nominal GDP will increase to $ 4,187.017 billion in 2025. At the same time, the size of Japan’s GDP is estimated to be $ 4,186.431 billion. India is currently the fifth largest economy in the world .  America, China, Germany and Japan are ahead of India  in GDP . According to IMF estimates,  India  can also become  the third largest economy in the world by overtaking Germany in the coming years . By 2027, India’s economy  can cross the $ 5 trillion mark and during this time the size of GDP is estimated to be $ 5,069.47 billion. At the same time, by 2028, the size of India’s GDP will be $ 5,584.476 billion, whereas during this period, the size of Germany’s GDP is estimated to be $ 5,251.928 billion.

9 Conservative leader Friedrich Merz elected new Chancellor of Germany

Germany  ‘s conservative leader  Friedrich Merz  has been elected the country’s new Chancellor after securing a majority in the second round of voting in the lower house of parliament   . This time a total of 325 out of 630 MPs voted in favour of Mr Merz, helping him cross the required 316 mark. Earlier, in the first round, only 310 members had voted for Mr Merz, dealing a significant blow to his reputation and an unprecedented failure in post-war German history.  The conservative CDU-CSU bloc  and its centre-left Social Democrat coalition partners together have a mathematically sufficient majority of 328 MPs, a substantial majority.

10 Maharashtra approves India’s first Shipbuilding, Repair and Recycling Policy 2025

In April 2025 , the Maharashtra State Cabinet,  headed by  Chief Minister (CM)  Devendra Fadnavis, approved   the ‘ Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling Policy 2025 ‘, making Maharashtra the first state in India  to  introduce a dedicated policy in the maritime manufacturing sector . The initiative is aligned with the central government’s Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrut Kal Vision 2047, which aim to position India among the top five countries in global shipbuilding by 2047. The policy focuses on transforming Maharashtra into a maritime hub: Investment of Rs 6,600 crore by 2030, aiming to create 40,000 jobs. Financial incentives: Capital subsidy of 15% of the project cost. Up to Rs 1 crore per project for skill development. Up to Rs 25 crore for research and development (R&D). Land allotment : Concessional land allotment on long-term lease (renewable) of 30 years.

11 Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched new digital platform to provide faster services to CGHS beneficiaries

In April 2025  , the  Ministry   of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) launched a new version of  its flagship programme, Health Management Information System (HMIS)  to make services under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)  faster accessible  .  Developed by  the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)  under  the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) , the platform went live from April 28, 2025.  Apart from HMIS, the ministry has re-launched the CGHS mobile application (app) for Android and iOS (formerly iPhone operating system) with enhanced interface and digital services.
