1 Paris Olympics: Strong performance of Indian hockey team, reached the semi-finals after beating Britain 4-2 in penalty shootout

 The Indian hockey  team   has confirmed its place for  the semi-finals  in the Paris Olympics . In the quarter-final match, India defeated  Britain  4-2 in the penalty shootout . However, after the regular time (120 minutes), the match was tied at 1-1. India scored 4 consecutive goals in the shootout. Britain’s team was able to score only two goals. Indian goalkeeper  Sreejesh  was the hero of the victory, who saved 2 goals. This victory of the Indian team is also important because the team was playing with only 10 players. Indian defender  Amit Rohidas  remained out of the match for 48 minutes in the 60 minutes of play. He was given a red card by the referee in the 12th minute. India is now in the semi-finals  face Germany or Argentina in the semi-finals  . Both the semi-finals of men’s hockey are to be held on 6 August.

2 “Heritage” exhibition begins at Handloom Haat, New Delhi to celebrate 10th National Handloom Day

A fortnight-long exhibition “ Virasat ” dedicated to the celebration of 10th National Handloom Day   began   on  Saturday,  3rd August, 2024 at Hathkargha Haat, Janpath . The exhibition is being organized by National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) under the aegis of  Ministry of Textiles , Government of India  and will conclude  on 16th August, 2024.  “Virasat” Series – “ Special Handloom Exhibition ” is a continuation of the celebrations organized last year on the occasion of National Handloom Day. This year  the 10th National Handloom Day is being celebrated on 7th August.  will be celebrated on 7th August. The focus of the event is on the glorious tradition of handloom and handicrafts. It also provides market and connectivity to handloom weavers and artisans.

3 Insurtech startup Coverzi secures IRDAI broking licence

Bengaluru  -based insurtech startup  Coverzi  recently received  the Direct Broking (General) Licence  from  the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).  This license allows Coverzy to act as a direct insurance broker, allowing it to offer a wide range of business insurance solutions across India.

4 Coal India gave scholarships to 1645 children under Ashish Yojana

Coal India Limited,  continuing its commitment to serve the society,   has launched  CIL ASHISH (Ayushman Education Assistance) Scheme  under  the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. CIL on Saturday provided scholarships to 1645 children  under this scheme , while also distributed appointment letters to 424 beneficiaries under compassionate appointment. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Coal, it was said that during a program organized here on the occasion of completion of 75 years of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the country, Justice Dr. Dhananjay Y Chandrachud and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal handed over dummy cheques for scholarship to 25 children under this scheme. At the same time, compassionate appointment letters were given to 10 female dependents. Coal India Limited will provide scholarships  of Rs 45 thousand per year to eligible children under the ASHIS scheme for a period of four years  , so that they can fulfill their dreams along with completing their studies.

5 Popular dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy passes away

Popular  Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dancer  Yamini Krishnamurthy (84)  has passed away. She was suffering from old age related ailments for some time. Yamini, who spread the fame of India all over the world through Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dance, was a Telugu actress from Andhra Pradesh. She was born  in 1940 in Madanapalle , Andhra  Pradesh   to the Krishnamurthy couple. Yamini first  took training in Bharatanatyam from Rukmini Arundale, founder of Kalakshetra in Chennai, at a very young age  . She studied dance diligently and gave her first dance performance in 1956.  Yamini, who was awarded a doctorate degree from Sri Venkateswara University,  was awarded the Padma Shri in 1968, Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2016  by the Central Government  . Yamini founded the ‘ Yamini School of Dance ‘ in Delhi and trained many young people in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dance. She also wrote a book called ‘ A Passion for Dance ‘.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister  Shri Amit Shah  launched   e  -Evidence, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti and e-Summons App  for  three new criminal laws  in  Chandigarh . Many dignitaries including Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Shri Gulabchand Kataria  and Union Home Secretary were present on the occasion. In his address, the Home Minister said that all those present here today have witnessed the implementation of the biggest reform of the 21st century. He said that the three new laws brought by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji – Indian  Judicial Code (BNS)Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS)  and  Indian Evidence Act (BSA)  – have the fragrance of Indian soil and our values ​​of justice.

7 Daljit Singh Chaudhary took additional charge as Director General of Border Security Force

 Director General of  Border Security Force Daljit Singh Chaudhary  has  taken additional charge as Director General of Border Security Force  . Mr. Chaudhary is a senior officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre of Indian Police Service. He was made Director General of Border Security Force in January this year.

8 Dr. Grinson George appointed Director of ICAR-CMFRI

Dr. Grinson George  has  assumed charge as Director at ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI)  . Prior to this, he headed the Marine Biodiversity and Environmental Management Division at CMFRI and served as Senior Programme Specialist at SAARC in Dhaka.

10 IRDAI imposes Rs 2 crore fine on HDFC Life

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)  has  imposed a total fine of Rs 2 crore  on HDFC Life  for violating various IRDAI rules.  The company has given this information in the exchange filing. According to the company, the fine was imposed after an onsite inspection conducted by IRDAI in September 2020. During that time, matters related to the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 were investigated. Insurance company HDFC Life was fined Rs 1 crore for issues related to the protection of policyholders’ interests. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 1 crore was imposed for irregularities related to outsourcing of services by the company.
