Patongtarn Shinawatra has become  the new Prime Minister of Thailand  . 38-year-old Patongtarn Shinawatra  is also   the youngest Prime Minister of Thailand. Patongtarn Shinawatra is the second woman Prime Minister of Thailand  . Earlier, her aunt  Yingluck Shinawatra  has been the Prime Minister of Thailand. Patongtarn Shinawatra is the third politician of the Shinawatra family who has reached the post of Prime Minister. Patongtarn Shinawatra   is the leader of the Pheu Thai Party .

2 Project Strawberry

OpenAI is expected to release   its most advanced  AI model , codenamed  Project Strawberry  , between September and November 2024. This model can be integrated into the upcoming new version of the OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT-5. Project Strawberry [formerly Project Q* ( Q -Star )] aims to  create Artificial General Intelligence  (AGI), that is, AI with cognitive abilities similar to the human brain. It has demonstrated the ability to solve complex puzzles and perform advanced cognitive tasks. It is believed that it solves mathematical problems more effectively than its predecessor models. It is also expected to have the ability to do online research autonomously.

3 Removing toxic chromium using sunlight could reduce wastewater treatment costs

Recently,   researchers at  the  Institute of Nano Science and Technology  (INST),  Mohali ,  an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology , have developed a novel method for removing toxic chromium from industrial wastewater using  ” sunlight ” as a catalyst in combination with microfluidic technology  (conversion and control of fluids at a very small scale).  Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is highly toxic. According to World Health Organization (WHO) reports, the tolerable concentration of hexavalent and trivalent chromium in drinking water is 0.05 mg/l and 5 mg/l. Thus, it becomes imperative to convert this hexavalent form of chromium to trivalent form.

4 Operation Kavach 5.0 targets drug trafficking

Recently,   Delhi  Police  launched ‘ Operation Kavach-5.0 ‘  as a major crackdown against drug trafficking , resulting in a large number of arrests and seizures in the national capital. The campaign has forced many smugglers to operate underground, and they have started transporting goods on a small scale through cars and trains instead of large scale. Smugglers are now using women and children as bait and setting up warehouses outside the city limits. Operation Kavach is a major anti-drug initiative launched by Delhi Police, aimed at focusing on drug trafficking from the street-level to the high-level and nabbing individuals involved in drug trafficking and distribution. It aims to deal with the harmful effects of drug addiction on youth and children. The campaign was launched in coordination with all the district units of Delhi Police. The campaign also involves the Crime Branch, Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).

5 Government nominated Tuhin Kant Pandey as Finance Secretary

The government  has named Tuhin Kant Pandey  as  Finance Secretary  . Mr. Tuhin is a 1987 batch  Odisha  cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Service. Currently, he is the Secretary in charge of two important departments in the Finance Ministry. These include the Department of Public Enterprises and the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management-DIPAM.

6 SBI Foundation will provide scholarships to 10 thousand meritorious students under Asha Scholarship Program

State Bank of India Foundation will provide  scholarships to 10 thousand meritorious students under  the Asha Scholarship Program   . This scholarship  will be given to students of underprivileged classes from sixth class to post graduation . Financial assistance of 15 thousand to two lakh rupees  will be given as scholarship.   This scholarship  will be given  to students of  Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe for studying in IIT, IIM and abroad  . 7 Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft returned to Earth from the International Space Station after spending nearly three months in space

Boeing  ‘s  Starliner spacecraft has returned to Earth   from  the International Space Station  after spending nearly three months in space.   The Starliner capsule that left for the space station with  NASA astronauts  Butch Wilmore  and  Sunita Williams had developed a technical fault  . Considering the risk in bringing the astronauts back to Earth through this spacecraft, the  duration of the astronauts’ stay at the International Space Station was increased from eight days to eight months  . These astronauts will now not be able to return to Earth until February. Sunita and Butch  will be brought back by  Elon Musk  ‘s company  SpaceX  ‘s  Crew Dragon spacecraft .

8 Typhoon Yagi is the most powerful typhoon this year

This year’s most powerful typhoon  Yagi has reached northern  Vietnam  today after wreaking havoc in  the South Chinese  island province of  Hainan  . Two people have died in Vietnam due to the impact of Yagi. Two people have been reported dead and dozens injured in Hainan.

9 Paris Paralympics: India won two more medals on the 10th day

 India won two more medals on the 10th day of the Paralympic Games  in  Paris , the capital   of  France . Navdeep Singh  won  gold  in  the men’s javelin throw event. In this event, the Iranian player was disqualified due to improper behavior. Simran Sharma  won  the bronze medal  in  the women’s 200 meter track event . India  has reached  the 16th position  in the Paralympic Games table  by winning 29 medals. These include 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze medals  . This is the country’s all-time best performance in the Paralympics. Earlier, Indian players had won 19 medals including 5 gold in the Tokyo Paralympics.

10 Hokato Hotose Sema won bronze medal in Paralympics

 India’s  Hokato Hotoje Sema  has   won  the bronze medal in shot put in the Paralympic Games . He  is the only athlete from Nagaland who is part of the Indian contingent in the Paralympic Games. Hokato Hotoje Sema  made a best throw of  14.65 meters  in the final of   shot put F-57 . Iran’s Yasin Khosravi  won the gold medal with a throw of 15.96 meters. Hokato also won the bronze medal in the Hangzhou Para Games.   Hokato Hotoje Sema lost his left leg in a landmine explosion during an anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2002.

11 Rahul Dravid became the head coach of Rajasthan Royals

Former Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has become the head coach of IPL franchise  Rajasthan  Royals. Now he will take charge of the Rajasthan Royals team in IPL 2025. Rahul Dravid was the captain of the Rajasthan Royals team in the 2012 and 2013 seasons of IPL. Apart from this, he was also the team director and mentor in 2014 and 2015. He was the head coach of the Indian team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. During this, the Indian team became the T20 World Cup champion. Rahul Dravid was the head coach of Team India from November 2021 to June 2024.

12 Nitika of India won silver medal in Under-20 World Wrestling Championship

 India’s  Nitika  has   won  the silver medal in the Under-20 World Wrestling Championship in Spain  .  In the final of the  women’s 62 kg weight category, Ukraine’s wrestler Iryna Bondar  defeated Nitika 4-1. Last year, Nitika had won the gold medal in the Under-20 Asian Championship. In the women’s 57 kg weight category, India’s Neha won the bronze medal by defeating Hungary’s wrestler Greda Terek 10-8. Earlier, Jyoti Barwal won the gold in the 76 kg weight category. India has so far won a total of five medals in the championship, with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

13 Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka won the US Open title for the first time

Belarus  ‘  Arina Sabalenka  has won the  US Open title  for the first time  . She  defeated  America’s Jessica Pegula in the final. This is Sabalenka’s third Grand Slam  title. The men’s doubles final of the tournament was won by Australia’s Max Purcell and Jordan Thomson. This pair defeated Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pews in the final. This is the first time since 1996 that an Australian pair has won the US Open title. Earlier this record was in the name of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde. In the US Open men’s singles match today,  America’s Taylor Fritz will  face  Italy’s Jannik Sinner  . This is the first time Sinner has reached the final of a Grand Slam.
