1.PM addresses ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ in Shimla
The Prime Minister , Shri Narendra Modi , addressed the ‘ Garib Kalyan Sammelan ‘ in Shimla , Himachal Pradesh . This unique public event is being organized in state capitals, district headquarters and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country to commemorate the completion of eight years of the government led by Prime Minister Modi. The concept of this conference is to enable the elected public representatives across the country to interact directly with the public to get feedback about the various welfare programs being run by the government. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi also released the 11th installment of financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. by thisAn amount of about 21,000 crores will be transferred to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families . On this occasion, the Prime Minister also interacted with the beneficiaries of (PM-Kisan) across the country. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Rajendra Arlekar, Himachal Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur and Union Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur were present on the occasion in Shimla.
2.The Gen Next Democracy Network program of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) concluded.
Recently , the ten-day Gen Next Democracy Network program of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) concluded. Six countries – Ghana, Bangladesh, Peru, Nepal, Brunei and Norway at the closing ceremony27 delegates from India shared their experiences of visiting India. Under this, emerging young leaders of 75 democratic countries of the world got an opportunity to exchange information and ideas about India’s cultural diversity, art, democracy and other subjects. The Ghanaian MP praised India and said that India’s culture, language and people are amazing. The Gen-Next Democracy Network program aims to define India’s democratic governance structure at various levels and develop an understanding of the success of India’s democratic journey around the world. ICCR organized the first batch of Gen-Next Democracy program in November 2021 under the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, which included Bhutan, Jamaica, Poland, Malaysia, Sweden, Sri Lanka, Representatives from eight countries such as Tanzania and Uzbekistan were involved. The delegation visited India from 25 November to 2 December 2021 to understand the rich democratic traditions of India, while the second batch concluded on 29 May 2022. The third batch is going to start in July this year.
3.Defense Ministry signs an agreement with Bharat Dynamic Limited
The Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with Bharat Dynamics Limited for the supply of Astra Mk- 1i Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air to Air Missile (AAM) and associated equipment. This deal worth two thousand 971 crores has been done for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The Astra Mark-I missile is indigenously developed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
4.Government revised the premium rates of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana
The government has revised the premium rates of two major social security schemes, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana . The premium rate of Jeevan Jyoti Bima has been revised from Rs. three hundred thirty to Rs. four hundred and thirty-six per annum . The premium rate of Suraksha Bima Yojana has been changed from Rs 12 to Rs 20 per annum . This is the first revision in the premium rates after the launch of both the schemes in the year 2015. The new premium rates are effective from June 1, 2022.
5.Center approves extension of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program by five years
The government has approved the continuation of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program for the next five years . Now this program will continue for the period of the Fifteenth Finance Commission from the year 2021-22 to the year 2025-26 . An outlay of about thirteen thousand five hundred 54 crores has been sanctioned for this. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is implementing this program. Its objective is to create employment opportunities for unemployed youth by setting up small enterprises in the non-farm sector. Since the implementation of this program in the year 2008-09, a subsidy of Rs.19,995 crore has been given to seven lakh 80 thousand micro enterprises. This has created employment opportunities for about 64 lakh youth.
6.Gujarat government ties up with Isha Outreach for soil conservation
Gujarat government has tied up with Isha Outreach for soil conservation . The agreement was signed in the presence of Isha Foundation founder Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel . Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Soil Health Card project for farmers has been implemented in the state since 2004. He said that 115 Soil Health Labs have been set up for testing the soil all over the State. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev emphasized the importance of soil conservation. The agreement covers various aspects of soil conservation through salinity prevention and increasing green cover. To give the message of soil conservation, Sadhguru is on a 100-day bike campaign to cover a distance of thirty thousand kilometres.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that the government is going to introduce legislation to ban pistol ownership in the country. It will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import a pistol anywhere in Canada. He said that most pistol owners use pistols safely and legally, but there is no need for anyone in Canada to use a pistol in everyday life except for its use in shooting and hunting. Canada’s Minister of Public Security Marco Mendicino said that if the bill is passed, a mandatory return purchase program for weapons used for assault would be in place by the end of this year.

The 118th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission based on the Indus Commissioners of India and Pakistan i.e. Indus River Water Commission was held in New Delhi . The Commission appreciated the commitment of both the sides towards exchange of views for resolving the related issues through bilateral consultations under the Indus River Water Treaty. It was agreed in the meeting that the next meeting of the Commission would be held in Pakistan, for which both sides would fix a fixed date. The Indian delegation during the two-day meeting was led by AK Paul, Indian Commissioner for Indus River Water Treaty. On behalf of Pakistan, Commissioner Syed Mohammad Mehr Ali Shah did the meeting.
10.Public Sector Banks Doubled Net Profit To About Rs 66,500 Crore In FY22
Public Sector Banks (PSBs) more than quadrupled their net profit in the financial year 2021-2022 . During the financial year 2021-22, the total profit of 12 state-owned banks stood at Rs 66,539 crore, up 110 per cent from Rs 31,816 crore in the previous year. For the first time in years, all 12 public sector banks made profits. This was also a significant improvement in FY18, when out of 21 public sector banks, just two declared profits.

The Border Coordination Conference between India and Bangladesh was initiated by Inspector General BSF – Regional Commander BGB in Sylhet. The prestigious Dr. V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural ceremony of the 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival of India (MIFF 2022) Veteran documentary filmmaker and writer Sanjit Narvekarfor his contributions to films, particularly through film history and the documentary film movement. Sanjit Narvekar has written and edited more than 20 books on cinema. These include ‘Marathi Cinema in Retrospect’, which won him the Swarna Kamal at the National Film Awards. The V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a golden conch shell and a citation. The award is instituted in the memory of legendary filmmaker V. 14.Geological Survey of India: India’s largest gold reserves in Bihar
According to the Geological Survey of India (GSI) , Jamui district of Bihar has about 222.88 million tonnes of gold reserves including 37.6 tonnes of mineral-rich ore. For this, the Bihar government has given permission for the discovery of ‘country’s largest’ gold deposits in Jamui district. The state’s Mines and Geology Department is in consultation with agencies engaged in exploration, including the GSI and the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), for the discovery of gold deposits in Jamui. The consultation process was started after analyzing the findings of the GSI. In this, there was indication of gold in areas like Karmatia, Jhajha and Sono of Jamui district.
15.America becomes India’s largest trading partner, leaving China behind
Reflecting strong economic ties between the two countries, the United States overtook China to become India’s top trading partner in 2021-22 . According to commerce ministry data, in 2021-22, bilateral trade between the US and India stood at US$ 119.42 billion, as against US$ 80.51 billion in 2020-21. Exports to the US increased to US$ 76.11 billion in 2021-22 from US$ 51.62 billion in the previous fiscal, while imports increased to US$ 43.31 billion as compared to around US$ 29 billion in 2020-21.
