2.Dr V Ananth Nageswaran appointed as Chief Economic Advisor

Government appoints Dr V Ananth Nageswaran as Chief Economic Adviserhas been appointed. He has taken over his charge. Earlier Dr. Nageswaran has worked as a writer, teacher and consultant. He has also served as a teacher in several business schools and management institutes in India and Singapore. Dr Nageswaran has been the Dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business. He is also Visiting Professor of Economics at Crea University. Shri Nageswaran has also been a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister from 2019 to 2021. He attended Indian Institute of Management, He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Ahmedabad and a Doctorate degree from the University of Massachusetts. The appointment of the new Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) comes at a time when the government is about to release the Economic Survey for the financial year 2021-22 on January 31 after two days. A day after this i.e. on February 1, the budget for the year 2022-23 is also to be presented. KV Subramanian’s tenure as Chief Economic Advisor ended in December. Since then, the new CEA had not been appointed till now. KV Subramanian was the country’s CEA for three years.

3.Creation of 13 new districts in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has recentlyannounced the creation of 13 new districts by delimiting the boundaries of the existing 13 districts of the state. The purpose of this decision of the Andhra Pradesh government is to ensure better administration for the development of various areas in the state. With this the total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh has gone up to 26. It is noteworthy that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in the country to be formed on linguistic basis and before that a new district was created in the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1979. This was Vizianagaram district. It should be noted that the power to create new districts rests with the state government. This is done either by passing a law in the state legislature or through an executive order. The State Government Office may also pass notification in the Official Gazette.

4.Digital Parliament App launched

The Lok Sabha Secretariat launched a new app named “ Digital Parliament ” on January 27, 2022 . Information about the proceedings of Parliament and its MPs for the publicThe Digital Parliament App was launched to achieve this. It is available on both Android and iOS platforms. It carries all the major content of the Interconnected Portal of Indian Parliament. The app provides a 360-degree view of legislative activities and services to members. Apart from proceedings in the current House, this app will also help people to access archival data related to all Lok Sabha. People will also be able to use speeches, debates etc. This app contains information about the budget speeches since 1947 as well as the discussions of the House from 12th Lok Sabha to 17th Lok Sabha. There will also be a live telecast of the proceedings of the Parliament. The budget session of 2022 can also be seen live on this app. The app will also help Members of Parliament to check personal updates, access services like House Bulletins, status of their notices, etc. There is a ban on the use of laptops inside the House of MPs. Thus, This app will be useful for MPs to get parliamentary information during any debate in the House. In future, this app will help MPs to log in for attendance, give questions for Question Hour as well as submit notices for debates or adjournment motions.

5.IMF tells El Salvador to remove bitcoin as its legal currency

The International Monetary Fund recently asked El Salvador to remove the legal status of bitcoin . In September 2021, El Salvador became the first country to allow consumers to use crypto currencies. Fears spread across the country that bitcoin could bring inflation and instability to the country. The IMF has warned El Salvador that it will be difficult to obtain loans from the international organization if the Latin American country does not remove bitcoin’s legal status. According to the IMF, El Salvador could face major consumer protection risks, financial instability by legalizing bitcoin. Also, the IMF is of the view that bitcoin is a controversial currency and can fluctuate widely.

6.Kerala government to bring ordinance to dilute Lokayukta powers

The Kerala government has decided to bring in an ordinance to amend the “ Kerala Lokayukta Act ”, which would have the power to dismiss the report of the anti-corruption body. The state cabinet recently asked the governor to amend the Kerala Lokayukta Act, 1999.Recommended issuance of an ordinance for This amendment seeks to empower the government to either accept or reject the decision of the Lokayukta after providing it an opportunity of being heard. According to this proposed amendment, the Lokayukta will only have the power to make recommendations or send reports to the government. Lokayukta is the Indian Parliamentary Ombudsman. This has been implemented through the Lokayukta Act. A person of eminent background is nominated to the post, who is capable of redressing complaints expeditiously against the working efficiency and integrity of the Government or its administration. After appointment of Lokayukta, he cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government. He can be removed only by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly.

7.PM launches Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Indian music should make a mark on the world stage. He was addressing the inaugural function of Pandit Jasraj Cultural Foundation through video conference . On the occasion, Shri Modi paid tribute to Pandit Jasraj on his birth anniversary and mentioned the extraordinary feature of Indian classical music. Emphasizing on the revolution of technology and information technology in the field of music, he said that there is a need to create such start-ups in the country which are completely dedicated to music and based on Indian music, instruments and tradition.

8.Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman to present paperless Union Budget on February 1

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the paperless Union Budget for the year 2022-23 on February 1 . The budget will also be available on the mobile app after the budget presentation process is completed. The Union Budget Mobile App was launched to provide seamless access to budget documents to the Parliamentarians and the public . The 14 documents of the Union Budget are fully accessible through the mobile app . These include the annual financial statements commonly used for budget speeches, budgets and demands for grants . This mobile app is available on Android and iOS platforms. This app is available on the Union Budget web portal www.indiabudget.gov.incan be downloaded from. In a historic step, for the first time, the paperless Union Budget for the year 2021-22 was presented.

10.Andaman and Nicobar Tri-Services Command inducts Advanced Light Helicopter Mk III

Two indigenously built advanced light helicopters – ALH. Dhruv MK III was commissioned into the fleet of Andaman and Nicobar Command at Port Blair. Lt Gen Ajay Singh, Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command was the chief guest at the ceremony held at INS Utkrosh. Hindustan Aeronautical Limited has designed and developed these helicopters. They have been inducted into the fleet of Andaman and Nicobar Command after two decades. These helicopters are equipped with two powerful engines, modern radar, electro-optical sensor system. This helicopter with a capacity of 14 soldiers is capable of carrying out its mission in day and night.

11.India signed a $375 million agreement with the Philippines to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles

India has signed a defense deal worth $375 million with the Philippines Navy for the sale of BrahMos supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles . The contract for the sale was signed in Manila by the Defense Secretary of the Philippines, Delphine Lorenzana, and the Ambassador of India, Shambhu Kumaran. The deal marks a major milestone in India’s efforts to become an exporter of defense equipment. BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL), a joint venture between India and Russia, manufactures this supersonic cruise missile. The BrahMos missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.

12.National Institute of Medicinal Education and Research- NIPER Research Portal launched

Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the research portal of National Institute of Medicinal Education and Research – NIPER in New Delhi . Its objective is to provide one-stop information on all the seven NIPER research activities, patents and publications. Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Bhagwant Khuba and Health Member, NITI Aayog Dr VK Paul were also present on the occasion.

13.Signing of MoU between Indian Navy and India Infoline Home Finance Limited

Indian Navy ‘s Placement Agency (INPA) and IIFL Home Finance Limited (IIFL HFL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 27 January 2022. Both the entities will explore opportunities to recruit experienced Navy personnel within IIFL HFL . This will provide employment opportunities to the able-bodied ex-servicemen/ex-servicemen and dependents to perform various roles in IIFL HFL.

14.Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs-AFD launches Swachhta Start-up Challenge to develop emerging ecosystem of Indian waste management sector

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) , Government of India, has entered into a partnership with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Agnes Française de Développement/French Development Agency (AFD) . Under this, the Swachhta Start-ups Challenge has been launched to encourage innovative start-ups to come forward and catalyze change in the sanitation and waste management sector . In line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’, this challenge seeks to promote an enabling environment for enterprise development under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0).

15.Bangladesh Top Destination for Indian Pomegranate

Bangladesh has emerged as the top destination for export of Indian pomegranates over the years . In the last financial year (2020-21), India exported 68,502.9 tonnes of fruits, of which 36,906.77 tonnes (over 50%) went to Bangladesh. Pomegranate ( Punica granatum ) is grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. It grows well in semi-arid conditions and can be grown up to an altitude of 500 m above mean sea level. It grows well in hot and dry winters, provided suitable irrigation facilities are available. Pomegranate is grown mostly in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat, pomegranate has emerged as a major export crop to the drought-prone regions of the state.

16.Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by taking 1.5 lakh private vehicles off the road

Recently , officials of the Regional Rapid Transit System ( RRTS) estimated that the RRTS will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by taking about 1.5 lakh private vehicles off the road . This corridor starts from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and passes through Ghaziabad to Modipuram in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh).Will reach This is the first RRTS of its kind in the national capital, on which the average speed of the train on the track will be 100 kmph and passengers will be able to reach Meerut in 50-60 minutes. A task force was constituted by the Planning Commission in the year 2005 under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development to develop a multi-modal transit system for the National Capital Region (NCR). It was included in the Integrated Transport Plan for NCR 2032 with special emphasis on ‘Regional Rapid Transit System’ (RRTS) connecting regional centres. The Task Force identified 8 corridors and prioritized three corridors for implementation, namely Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar. The ‘Regional Rapid Transit System’ is a new, high-speed, high-capacity, Comfortable commuter service. RRTS is also different from conventional railways as it is more reliable and completes more cycles with higher speed. RRTS differs from metro in that it has fewer stops and higher speed than metro and caters to the needs of passengers traveling relatively longer distances.

18.Lala Lajpat Rai Jayanti

On January 28, 2022, the birth anniversary of the famous freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai was celebrated across the country . Lala Lajpat Rai was born on January 28, 1865 in a small village called ‘ Dhudike ‘ in Firozpur district of Punjab . Lala Lajpat Rai was one of the greatest freedom fighters of India. He studied law from the Government College, Lahore. Influenced by Swami Dayanand Saraswati , he joined the Arya Samaj in Lahore. Together with Bipin Chandra Pal and Bal Gangadhar Tilak , he formed a trio ( Lal-Bal-Pal ) of extremist leaders. He founded the ‘ Home Rule League of America ‘ in America in the year 1917.’ and thereby sought moral support for the Indian independence movement from the international community in America. He founded the ‘ Hindu Relief Movement ‘ in the year 1897 to help the famine victims and to save them from the clutches of missionaries . Apart from this, he founded the ‘ Servants of People’s Society ‘ in the year 1921. He was the editor and founder of Arya Gazette . He also laid the foundation stone of Punjab National Bank in the year 1894 . He was also known as ‘ Punjab Kesari ‘ and ‘ Lion of Punjab’.

19.data privacy day

28 January was the birth anniversary of Pandit Jasraj . He was an exceptional singer and ruled the Indian music world for many decades. He mesmerized people in the country and abroad with his singing talent. Pandit Jasraj received his early musical education from his father and started his career from Hyderabad. He learned music from the Mewati gharana in Gujarat and started his career with classical music singing on Calcutta Radio in the year 1946. In his musical career spanning 80 years, he was honored with many awards. Pandit Jasraj was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan . Apart from this, he was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award . Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi Classical Music Life Achievement Award to Pandit JasrajAlso decorated with He died on 17 August 2020 at his residence in New Jersey.
