1 PM Modi inaugurates and lays foundation stone for metro projects worth Rs 22,800 crore in Bengaluru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated major urban transport projects in Karnataka ‘s capital Bengaluru . He inaugurated the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 , which is more than 19 km long and has 16 stations. This project has been completed at a cost of about Rs 7,160 crore . The Yellow Line will go from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra and with its launch, the total length of the Bengaluru Metro network has increased to more than 96 km. In the same program, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project , which costs more than Rs 15,610 crore . This Phase-3 (Orange Line) will be more than 44 km long and will have 31 elevated stations, which will connect residential, industrial, commercial and educational areas of the city. At the same time, the Prime Minister also flagged off three new Vande Bharat Express trains from KSR Railway Station. These include trains running between Bengaluru to Belgaum, Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune. He said these trains will boost trade, tourism and passenger convenience.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the Rs 1,800 crore BEML Rail Hub Construction Project in Madhya Pradesh . Called the ‘ Brahma ‘ of rail coach manufacturing, the plant will be set up on over 60 hectares of land at Umaria village in Raisen district . It is expected to employ over 5,000 people. The unit will manufacture coaches for Vande Bharat, Amrut Bharat and Metro trains . Speaking on the occasion, the Defence Minister said the unit has been named ‘Brahma’ after the creator of Indian tradition and high-speed trains in India will be equipped with coaches manufactured here. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw participated in the event virtually. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav also addressed the gathering.
3 Maharashtra implements ‘Disha Abhiyaan’ for equal education of students with intellectual disabilities

‘ Disha Abhiyan ‘ , which shows the way towards uniform and quality education for intellectually disabled people , has been successfully implemented in Maharashtra . Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that this innovative curriculum developed by Jai Vakil Foundation and approved by National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) has been implemented in 453 special schools of the state. Mr. Fadnavis said that Maharashtra is the first state in the country to give priority to the needs of the disabled. Established in 1944, Jai Vakil Foundation has developed a curriculum based on research and universal methods based on its 80 years of experience. This curriculum is certified by National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
4 Maharashtra CM Fadnavis launched ‘Garuda Drishti’ to detect fraudulent activities through social media

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the state has the best systems and technology in the world to prevent incidents like spreading communal hatred and riots through social media . He said that ‘ Garuda Drishti ‘ tools are playing an important role in detecting such people and ensuring immediate action against them. He was speaking at the presentation of ‘Garuda Drishti’ social media monitoring and cyber intelligence project organized by Nagpur Police Department at Police Bhavan and distribution of ₹ 10 crore amount recovered from investigation of various cyber financial crimes to the victims. The Chief Minister handed over the recovered amount to the victims of fraud. The Chief Minister informed that ‘Garuda Drishti’ system has been developed to prevent fraudulent activities through social media platforms . He further said that through this system it will be possible to detect and monitor criminal activities on these platforms. He also said that the scope and capacity of these tools will be further increased in future.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated ‘ Nari Adalat’ on the occasion of the first Amma Samman Day in Rongpo . ‘Nari Adalat’ is a community-based platform run by women that provides accessible and informal justice, especially in the rural and semi-urban areas of Sikkim. ‘Nari Adalat’ aims to empower women to deal with disputes and social issues that directly affect them, without relying solely on the formal judicial system. It focuses on minor disputes such as family differences, non-serious domestic violence cases, marital issues, etc. Unlike regular courts that involve formal legal procedures, official judges, and lengthy processes, ‘Nari Adalat’ works in a flexible and dialogue-based manner.
6 Rishabh Yadav wins first medal for India at World Games 2025

At the World Games 2025 , Rishabh Yadav created history by winning India’s first individual medal by securing a bronze medal in the men’s compound archery event in Chengdu, China . The 22-year-old archer, seeded 10th, defeated his senior teammate and multiple-time World Cup gold medallist Abhishek Verma 149-147 in a high-stakes bronze medal bout. In the women’s compound category, the challenge ended in the quarterfinals when Preneet Kaur and Madhura Dhamangaonkar lost to higher-seeded opponents. The biggest setback came in the compound mixed team event, where top-seeded Verma and Dhamangaonkar—favourites after topping the qualifications—lost to South Korea’s Moon Yeun and Lee Yunho in the opening round itself. A 17-member Indian team is participating in the Games, which will run till August 17. The World Games , held every four years since 1981 , feature sports that are not on the Olympic programme. India has been participating in the Games since its first edition in 1981 and has won a total of five medals before this year’s edition, including one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. The country’s only gold medal came in 2013, when Aditya Mehta won in billiards. This time India is participating in five sports – archery, billiards, roller skating, wushu and racquetball.
7th Asian Surfing Championship: Ramesh Budhial becomes first Indian to win medal in Open Men’s Category

Ramesh Budhial became the first Indian to win a medal by winning a bronze medal in the open men’s category at the Asian Surfing Championship in Mahabalipuram , Tamil Nadu . Budhial, the first Indian to reach the medal round, finished third with 12.60 points. Kanoa Heejae of Korea won the gold medal with 15.17 points , while Pajar Ariana of Indonesia won the silver medal with 14.57 points .
8 Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens: China wins women’s title, Hong Kong bags men’s crown, Indian women bag bronze

In the final of the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens men’s category, Hong Kong defeated Sri Lanka to win the championship title. In the women’s category, China defeated Hong Kong to win the championship title. The finals were played at the Rajgir International Sports Complex in Bihar . In the third-place playoff, the Bhumika Shukla -led Indian women’s team defeated Uzbekistan 12-5 in a close match to finish third . In the men’s third-place match, Malaysia defeated China to finish third. Earlier, in the same men’s match, India defeated Kazakhstan to finish fifth.
9 Annu Rani wins gold medal in women’s javelin throw at the Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event

In athletics , Olympian Annu Rani won the women’s javelin throw title at the Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Bronze-level Continental Tour at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha . She registered a best throw of 62.01m , easily outperforming Sri Lanka ‘s NDL Hatarabag Leka (56.27m) and India’s Deepika (54.20m) . It is a strong comeback for Annu, who had earlier thrown 62.59m in Poland, her best in almost two years. In the men’s javelin throw event, India’s Shivam Lohakare bagged the silver medal with a throw of 80.73m. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage won the gold with an impressive throw of 86.50m, surpassing the World Championships qualifying mark of 85.50m. Another Sri Lankan Sumeda J Ranasinghe won the bronze medal with a throw of 80.65m. Meanwhile, India’s Murali Sreeshankar won the men’s long jump title with a season’s best performance of 8.13m in his final attempt. Shahnawaz Khan finished second with 8.04m to join India’s 8m club, and Lokesh Sathianathan finished third with 7.85m. The win extended Sreeshankar’s streak of four consecutive titles after returning from injury. The Indian Open 2025 marked the first time India hosted a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze-level event. 10 Indian women boxers – Nisha and Muskan won gold medals at Under-19 Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok

In boxing , young Indian women boxers Nisha and Muskan displayed their impressive skills by winning gold medals at the Under-19 Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok , while five others won silver medals . Of the 10 women boxers participating in the competition, nine will return with medals , including two gold, five silver and two bronze medals. These medals reflect India’s strong performance against tough opponents from countries like China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In the 54kg category, Nisha impressed by winning 4:1 over China’s Sirui Yang, while in the 57kg category, Muskan defeated Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek 3:2 in a closely contested match. The silver medalists included Aarti Kumari in 75kg, Kritika Vasan in 80kg and Parchi Tokas in the 80+ category. In the men’s final, Rahul Kundu won the 75kg category and added another medal after winning by a split decision over Muhammadjon Yakupbovek of Uzbekistan.
11 World Lion Day 2025

Every year on August 10, the whole world celebrates World Lion Day — a day dedicated to spreading awareness about the plight of wild lions and the urgent need for their conservation. Started in 2013 by conservationists Derek and Beverly Zubert, the initiative aims to highlight the threats faced by lions due to habitat loss, poaching and human exploitation. The Zubert couple had earlier launched the Big Cat Initiative in collaboration with National Geographic, which aims to stop the rapidly declining population of big cats around the world.
