1.FIFA postpones men’s U-17, U-20 World Cups 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic:- The Bureau of the FIFA Council canceled the 2021 editions of men’s U-20 and U-17 World Cup due to the ongoing pandemic and decided to give the hosting rights to Indonesia and Peru for the 2023 editions.In an official statement, the football’s governing body mentioned that the pandemic has continued to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and have an effect on international travel.It also added that FIFA has regularly consulted the stakeholders, which also includes the confederations as well as the host member associations in both tournaments which were scheduled to take place in 2021.The bureau came to the conclusion that the global situation has still not normalized to a sufficient level for addressing the challenges that will be associated with hosting both the tournaments including the relevant qualifications.
2.PM Modi inaugurates first driverless train of India on Delhi Metro:-Prime Minister Modi on December 28, 2020, inaugurated the country’s first-ever driverless train operations on the Magenta line of Delhi Metro (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden).The fully operational National Common Mobility Card services have also been launched by PM Modi on Airport Express Line. Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal also attended the event via video conference. According to the official release, the new innovations are going to introduce a new era of enhanced mobility and traveling comfort for the residents of the National Capital Region (NCR).It further added that with the commencement of driverless trains on the Magenta line of Delhi Metro, DMRC will be entering the elite league of 7% of the world’s metro networks that can operate without drivers.
3.Anti-Conversion Law: Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approves MP Freedom of Religion Bill 2020 against forced conversions:- Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has given its approval to the MP Freedom of Religion Bill 2020 against the forced conversions. This new law introduces strict punishment against the forced religious conversions including imprisonment and a fine.The Bill will now be placed in the MP State Assembly for its final passage. Once passed by the state assembly, the Bill will replace the MP Religious Freedom Act, 1968, which is also known as MP Dharma Swatantrya Adhiniyam, 1968.
4.E-Sampada: Government launches new web portal and mobile app on Good Governance Day:- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on December 25, 2020, launched a new web portal and mobile app, e-Sampada to boost transparency and accountability while ensuring ease of living for the citizens of India.The website and mobile app were inaugurated by Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs on the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25 which is celebrated annually as Good Governance Day. While addressing the program, the Union Minister mentioned the launch of e-Sampada as a significant step towards the promotion of e-governance for boosting transparency and accountability in providing different estate services such as regularization, retention, allotment, no dues certificate, etc.
