1.States Startup Ranking 2021: Gujarat and Karnataka best performing states in the category

The results of the third edition of the Ranking of States on Supporting the Startup Ecosystem were released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry . Earlier , the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) ranking was released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which is based on the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) Report, 2020 . Gujarat and Karnataka have emerged as the best performers in the category of states . Meghalaya ranks best in the Union Territories and North Eastern States category . Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana top performing in the states categorywon the award. Jammu and Kashmir in the category of Union Territories and North Eastern StatesAppeared as the top performer. Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa are in the leaders’ category. The states and union territories in the aspirant’s category include Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Nagaland. The Startup India initiative of the Government of India envisages building a strong startup ecosystem in the country to foster innovation and provide opportunities to budding entrepreneurs. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is conducting the States Startup Ranking exercise since 2018. This exercise plays a vital role in easing the business environment for startups in the country.

2.Indian Navy’s INS Satpura and P8I participated in the Harbor Phase of the RIMPAC exercise

5.UK Parliament conferred Ayurveda Ratna Award on Tanuja Nesari

All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) Director Tanuja Nesari has been conferred with the Ayurveda Ratna Award by the UK Parliament . The UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Science (ITSappg) presented the award in recognition of his contribution to promoting the development of Ayurveda in India and abroad. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Science was formed in 2014 with the aim of spreading the knowledge of Ayurveda, Yoga, Astrology, Vastu, Unani and Sangeet to the United Kingdom and abroad .

7.Declaration of emergency in five northern regions in view of severe drought in Italy

In Italy , the government has declared a state of emergency in the five northern regions around the Po river in view of the severe drought in the country. It is the worst drought in Italy in 70 years. A government statement said that five regions of the country – Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto – will be given an amount of about $ 400 million to deal with the water shortage. Drought could affect up to 30 percent of Italy’s agricultural produce. Many municipalities have already announced water rations.

8.Hotels and restaurants will not be able to charge service charges on food bills

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has clarified that no hotel or restaurant can add service charge to the food bill in any way., The Central Consumer Protection Tribunal has issued guidelines to prevent unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights. The guidelines state that no service charge by any other name will be levied. The hotel or restaurant cannot compel the consumer to pay the service charge, they must clearly state that the charge is voluntary, optional and at the discretion of the consumer. The ministry said that a complaint can be lodged on the National Consumer Helpline against hotels or restaurants violating these rules. For this, a call has to be made on 1915 or on the mobile app of the helpline. The Ministry has clarified that complaints can also be made to the Consumer Commission regarding unfair trade practices through the e-Dakhil portal.

The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications has issued an advisory on 1st July, 2022 to the general public regarding proper use of wireless jammers and boosters/repeaters .(https://dot.gov.in/spectrummanagement/advisory-proper) has been released. It has been pointed out that the use of cellular signal jammers, GPS blockers or other signal jamming equipment is generally illegal except as specifically permitted by the Government of India. Detailed guidelines in this regard are available at https://cabsec.gov.in/others/jammerpolicy/. Private sector organizations and/or individuals cannot personally buy/use Jammers in the country. It also stated that it is illegal to promote, sell, distribute, import or otherwise market signal jamming equipment in the country except as permitted under the guidelines mentioned above. With respect to Signal Booster/Repeater, it has been stated that it is illegal to possess, sell and/or use a mobile signal repeater/booster by any person/entity other than a licensed Telecom Service Provider.
