1.States Startup Ranking 2021: Gujarat and Karnataka best performing states in the category
The results of the third edition of the Ranking of States on Supporting the Startup Ecosystem were released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry . Earlier , the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) ranking was released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which is based on the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) Report, 2020 . Gujarat and Karnataka have emerged as the best performers in the category of states . Meghalaya ranks best in the Union Territories and North Eastern States category . Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana top performing in the states categorywon the award. Jammu and Kashmir in the category of Union Territories and North Eastern StatesAppeared as the top performer. Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa are in the leaders’ category. The states and union territories in the aspirant’s category include Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Nagaland. The Startup India initiative of the Government of India envisages building a strong startup ecosystem in the country to foster innovation and provide opportunities to budding entrepreneurs. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is conducting the States Startup Ranking exercise since 2018. This exercise plays a vital role in easing the business environment for startups in the country.
2.Indian Navy’s INS Satpura and P8I participated in the Harbor Phase of the RIMPAC exercise
Indian Navy ‘s indigenous warship INS Satpura and P8I LRMRASW aircraft one of the largest multilateral naval exercises – Rim of the Pacific at Pearl Harbor , Hawaii , UStaking part in the exercise. It is also known as Rimpack. For this exercise, Satpura reached Hawaii on June 27, 2022 and P8I aircraft on July 2, 2022. Several seminars, exercise plan discussions and sports competitions were organized as part of the harbor phase of the exercise. In addition, the crew also visited the historic museum ship USS Missouri and paid tribute to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II at the USS Arizona Memorial. INS Satpura and a P8I maritime patrol aircraft are participating in the exercise, which spanned over six weeks of intensive operational and training. The UN World Drug Report 2022 was recently released by the UN Office on Drugs and Crimes . According to this report, the legalization of cannabis has increased its daily use and related health effects. The report highlights the expansion of synthetic drugs into new markets, the growth in the manufacture of cocaine. According to this report; Around 284 million people aged 15-64 worldwide used drugs in 2020 . 26% increase in drug use over the previous decadeViewed. Young people are consuming more drugs. In Africa and Latin America, the majority of people under the age of 35 are being treated for drug use disorders. Globally 2 million people were injecting drugs. Of these, about half were infected with hepatitis C, 1.4 million with HIV, and 1.2 million with HIV and hepatitis C.
5.UK Parliament conferred Ayurveda Ratna Award on Tanuja Nesari
All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) Director Tanuja Nesari has been conferred with the Ayurveda Ratna Award by the UK Parliament . The UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Science (ITSappg) presented the award in recognition of his contribution to promoting the development of Ayurveda in India and abroad. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Indian Traditional Science was formed in 2014 with the aim of spreading the knowledge of Ayurveda, Yoga, Astrology, Vastu, Unani and Sangeet to the United Kingdom and abroad .
6.Sini Shetty of Karnataka crowned Femina Miss India 2022
This time Sini Shetty won the Femina Miss India 2022 title . She will now represent India at the 71st Miss World pageant . 7.Declaration of emergency in five northern regions in view of severe drought in Italy
In Italy , the government has declared a state of emergency in the five northern regions around the Po river in view of the severe drought in the country. It is the worst drought in Italy in 70 years. A government statement said that five regions of the country – Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto – will be given an amount of about $ 400 million to deal with the water shortage. Drought could affect up to 30 percent of Italy’s agricultural produce. Many municipalities have already announced water rations.
8.Hotels and restaurants will not be able to charge service charges on food bills
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has clarified that no hotel or restaurant can add service charge to the food bill in any way., The Central Consumer Protection Tribunal has issued guidelines to prevent unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights. The guidelines state that no service charge by any other name will be levied. The hotel or restaurant cannot compel the consumer to pay the service charge, they must clearly state that the charge is voluntary, optional and at the discretion of the consumer. The ministry said that a complaint can be lodged on the National Consumer Helpline against hotels or restaurants violating these rules. For this, a call has to be made on 1915 or on the mobile app of the helpline. The Ministry has clarified that complaints can also be made to the Consumer Commission regarding unfair trade practices through the e-Dakhil portal.

14.DoT issues advisory to public regarding proper usage of wireless jammers and boosters
The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications has issued an advisory on 1st July, 2022 to the general public regarding proper use of wireless jammers and boosters/repeaters .(https://dot.gov.in/spectrummanagement/advisory-proper) has been released. It has been pointed out that the use of cellular signal jammers, GPS blockers or other signal jamming equipment is generally illegal except as specifically permitted by the Government of India. Detailed guidelines in this regard are available at https://cabsec.gov.in/others/jammerpolicy/. Private sector organizations and/or individuals cannot personally buy/use Jammers in the country. It also stated that it is illegal to promote, sell, distribute, import or otherwise market signal jamming equipment in the country except as permitted under the guidelines mentioned above. With respect to Signal Booster/Repeater, it has been stated that it is illegal to possess, sell and/or use a mobile signal repeater/booster by any person/entity other than a licensed Telecom Service Provider.
15.DGDE develops AI-based software to detect unauthorized construction and encroachment on defense land
The Center of Excellence on Satellite and Unmanned Remote Vehicle Initiative (COE-SURVEI) has developed an artificial intelligence – based software that automatically detects any changes on the ground, including unauthorized constructions and encroachments , over a period of time using satellite imagery . can detect. CoE-SURVEI , established by the Directorate General of Defense Estates at the National Institute of Defense Asset Management , uses the latest technologies such as satellite imagery, drone imagery and geospatial tools in surveys for effective land management and urban planning. Inauguration of CoE on 16th December, 2021 Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singhwas did. This change detection software has been developed by COE-SURVEI in collaboration with knowledge partner Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), Visakhapatnam . Presently the tool uses National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC) Cartosat-3 imagery with trained software. Changes on the ground are detected by analyzing satellite imagery from different time periods.
