Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister continuously from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977, with a tenure of 4,077 days. PM Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and held this position until 2014, when he assumed the office of Prime Minister .

3 Defence Minister approves mega solar power project on Defence land in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh

In a significant step towards enhancing energy security, promoting renewable energy, and ensuring optimal utilization of vacant Ministry of Defence lands, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the establishment of a 250 MW solar power project with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on approximately 850 acres of vacant Ministry of Defence land in Sitapur (East Cantonment Area), Uttar Pradesh . This is the first project of its kind undertaken by the Ministry of Defence. It involves the development of a large-scale solar power generation facility with integrated BESS support on Defence land. This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to clean energy, sustainable development, and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. According to the Ministry, the project will be developed by NTPC as part of its initiative to optimally utilize vacant Army land (Defence Land).
4 BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ meeting begins in Indraur

On June 9th , the BRICS Agriculture Summit began in Indore , Madhya Pradesh , where representatives from 21 countries gathered to discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing the global agricultural sector. The summit will continue until June 13th . Agriculture ministers from BRICS countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa participated in the meeting. The summit will address food security, agricultural innovation, climate change, agricultural trade, and small farmers. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, BRICS countries account for approximately 42% of the world’s agricultural land, 68% of agricultural holdings, and 42% of food production . The summit will discuss new technologies and innovations in the agricultural sector. Sessions will be held on how to make agriculture safer in the face of climate change. The summit will focus on increasing the income of small farmers and connecting them to the global market. The joint declaration may also include a joint declaration on food security and nutrition, digital agriculture and increasing the use of smart technology in agriculture, agricultural innovation, AI, machine learning and robotics, and agricultural investment.
5 US court blocks $100,000 fee for H-1B visas

On June 8 , a federal court in the US struck down Trump’s policy charging a fee of $100,000 (approximately ₹9.5 million) for H-1B visas. The Boston court ruled that this was not a fee but a tax , and that implementing it required Congress’s approval, not the president’s. In September 2025, Trump had announced that companies employing foreign workers on H-1B visas would be required to pay an additional fee of $100,000 for each visa. Following this, the Attorneys General of 20 states challenged this decision. The Trump administration may now appeal the court’s decision. The H-1B is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to hire high-skilled professionals from abroad for a limited period. Previously, companies had to pay a fee of approximately $2,000 to $5,000 for H-1B visa applications. This visa is primarily used by Indian IT and tech professionals. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue of H-1B visas with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in May of this year. Rubio acknowledged that there could be some difficulties and tensions during the transition to the new immigration system. The H-1B visa is a non-agreement visa. The H-1B visa is used to appoint foreign professionals to positions requiring specialized technical skills. The validity period of an H-1B visa is three years. If necessary, the H-1B visa can be extended for up to three years.
6 Uttar Pradesh government launched ‘Project Ganga’

The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Ganga (Government Assisted Network for Growth and Advancement) Project, which aims to ensure last -mile digital connectivity in rural areas and expand digital education, telemedicine, e-governance, skill development, and technology- based employment opportunities. Launching the project in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state aims to develop 8,000 digital entrepreneurs to promote digital empowerment. This project will connect youth to the digital economy and create new opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship. Congratulating the Hinduja Group for this initiative, the Chief Minister said that under the CM Yuva Yojana, the state government is providing interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh to youth. Youth selected under the Ganga Project will also be able to take advantage of this facility and establish their own enterprises as digital service providers. Half of the selected youth will be women. OneOTT Entertainment Limited, a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group , will train these youth. Each service provider will have to invest ₹5.53 lakh . Five lakh rupees will be provided under the CM Youth Scheme . Youth will need to invest a margin of 50,000 rupees . They will provide internet connections at their homes. This initiative, which will begin in 21 districts in the first phase, will connect 2 million families to the digital economy.
7 Prime Minister’s Tea Workers Scheme to be implemented in West Bengal

The Pradhan Mantri Chai Shramik Yojana will be implemented in West Bengal for the tea garden workers of the state. This welfare initiative comprises three sub-schemes . Amit Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, told the media in Kolkata that the Tea Workers Education Scheme , Tea Workers Health Scheme and Tea Workers Ashraya Yojana are being launched with the aim of providing quality education to the children of workers, reliable health services and proper housing for the workers . Around Rs 300 crore has been allocated for the Pradhan Mantri Chai Shramik Yojana in West Bengal.
8. Final phase of strategic road project Zoji-La Tunnel completed

The final phase of the Zojila Tunnel road project has been successfully completed . This has increased the possibility of establishing all-weather connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari , by pressing a remote button, detonated the blast near the eastern entrance of the Zojila Tunnel in Minimarg, Ladakh , calling it a historic moment for ensuring all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh . Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were also present. The tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh , boosting transportation, tourism, and the local economy. Built at an altitude of 11,578 feet above sea level, the Zojila Tunnel will become Asia’s longest road tunnel upon completion . The Zojila Tunnel is one of the country’s most strategically important road projects. The opening of this tunnel connects the two ends of the more than 13-kilometer-long main tunnel being constructed on National Highway 1 between Baltal in Kashmir and Minamarg in Drass in Ladakh’s Kargil district. The project is expected to be commissioned by February 2028. Once operational, the tunnel will reduce the travel time through the Zojila Pass from three hours to about 15 minutes and avoid snow-covered and accident-prone stretches of the highway.
9 Safe Motherhood Campaign completes 10 years

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is continuously working to strengthen maternal health and early childhood care through the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), launched in 2017. This scheme provides financial assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers , promoting better nutrition and positive health behaviors. Effective April 1, 2022, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana has been included under Mission Shakti . Following this, the maternity and child benefit installments were reduced from three to two. The scope of the scheme was also expanded to include benefits for the second child, provided the newborn is a girl. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of ₹5,000 in two installments for the first child and ₹6,000 for the birth of a girl child . This assistance is linked to key health milestones such as early pregnancy registration, antenatal care, and vaccination. Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda launched the nationwide celebrations to mark 10 years of the PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan in New Delhi. The Health Minister also released a special commemorative coin of ₹75 and a ₹5 postage stamp to mark the occasion.

The celebration of International Archives Day began in 2007. The primary reason behind this was the establishment of the International Council on Archives (ICA) on June 9th, 1948. Established in collaboration with UNESCO, this council’s objective was to promote the preservation, management, and use of records worldwide. Later, the ICA decided to celebrate June 9th as International Archives Day to raise awareness about the importance of records.
