1 President Murmu unveiled the flag and emblem of the Supreme Court

President  Draupadi Murmu unveiled the flag and emblem  of  the Supreme Court  during  the National Conference of District Judiciary  held in   New  Delhi  on 1 September 2024.  She also addressed the concluding session of the conference. Chief Justice of India,  Justice DY Chandrachud , Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge)  Arjun Ram Meghwal , Attorney General of India  R Venkataramani  and other Supreme Court Judges, Supreme Court Bar Council Association, etc. were also present. The National Conference of District Judiciary was organized by the Supreme Court of India on  31 August and 1 September 2024.  The conference deliberated on issues such as infrastructure and human resources of district judiciary, inclusive courts for all, judicial security and judicial welfare, case management and judicial training. The National Conference of District Judiciary was inaugurated by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi on 31 August 2024. PM Modi  also released a commemorative postage stamp to mark the completion of  75 years of the Supreme Court   of India  . The Supreme Court of India   came into existence on  28 January 1950. The Department of Posts  under  the Ministry of Communications  released a commemorative stamp on the Supreme Court. The newly unveiled flag of the Supreme Court   includes  the Ashoka Chakra, the Supreme Court building and the Constitution of India . The colour of the flag of the Supreme Court is blue  and the emblem  bears the words ‘ Supreme Court of India ‘ and ‘ Yato Dharmastato Jayah in Devanagari script .

2 Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi officially inaugurates IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus

 Crown Prince of  Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan  officially  inaugurated the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus  . Establishing the prestigious IIT brand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a historic moment for international engineering education. The occasion welcomed the inaugural batch of 52 undergraduate students of Computer Science, Engineering and Energy Engineering. Students for the undergraduate programme are selected through the prestigious JEE Advanced exam and the Joint Admission Entrance Test (CAET), specially designed for international students. The new campus will bring together Indian, Emirati and international talent. The establishment of the campus fulfils a key aspect of the vision document adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in February 2022. This document serves as a roadmap for cooperation between the two countries. IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi had earlier launched its first Masters of Technology (M.Tech) programme in Energy Transition and Sustainability in January this year.

3 Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki receives Ramon Magsaysay Award

The  2024  Ramon Magsaysay Award  has been awarded to Japanese film director  Hayao Miyazaki  . Miyazaki’s famous films are ‘ Princess Mononoke ‘, ‘ Spirited Away ‘, ‘ Howl’s Moving Castle ‘, ‘ My Neighbor Totoro ‘ and ‘ The Boy and the Heron ‘. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is given by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is   called the Nobel Prize of Asia .

4 Semiconductor unit to be set up in Sanand, Gujarat at a cost of Rs 3,300 crore, Cabinet approves

 The Union Cabinet chaired by  Prime Minister  Narendra Modi on Monday  approved setting up of  a semiconductor unit  in  Sanand  ,  Gujarat .  This unit  will be set up by Kayence Semicon Private Limited at a cost of Rs 3,300 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission  . This unit will have the capacity to manufacture 60 lakh chips per day. The chips made here will be used in automobiles, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom and mobile sectors. The program for the development of semiconductors and display manufacturing eco system in India was notified on 21 December 2021 with a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. In June 2023, the Union Cabinet approved the first proposal to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. Three more semiconductor units were approved in February 2024.  Tata Electronics  is setting up   a semiconductor  fab in Dholera, Gujarat  and  a semiconductor unit in Morigaon,  Assam  . CG Power is  also   setting up a semiconductor unit at Sanand, Gujarat .

5 Indian Navy’s P8I aircraft reached France for Varuna exercise

 

Indian Navy  ‘s  P-8I aircraft has arrived in France to participate in   the 22nd edition  of Exercise Varuna with  the French Navy   . According to a statement issued by the Indian Navy, the deployment of Indian Navy’s Alize aircraft has taken place after 63 years. The bilateral naval exercise Varuna between India and France will be held in the Mediterranean Sea from September 2 to 4. In a post on the social media platform X, the Indian Navy spokesperson said that as part of the Indo-France Naval Exercise, Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft landed at Air Base 125 Istres-Le Tube, which will be its maiden deployment to Europe for the 22nd edition of Exercise Varuna with the French Navy.

6 Centre notified formation of 23rd Law Commission

The Center  notified the formation of  the 23rd Law Commission . The tenure of the commission  will be for a period of  three years from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2027. The commission will have  a full-time chairman and four full-time members including a member-secretary.  The Secretary of the Department of Legal Affairs and the Secretary of the Legislative Department will be ex-officio members of the panel. The commission can have five part-time members.  Serving judges of the Supreme Court and High Court  will be the chairman and members of the Law Commission. The notification said that the judges will continue to function on a full-time basis till the date of retirement from the Supreme Court and High Court or till the term of the commission expires, whichever is earlier. The first Law Commission in India was formed in the year 1955. Since then, 22 Law Commissions have completed their tenure. The term of the 22nd Law Panel ended on 31 August 2024. The government constituted the 22nd Commission on 21 February 2020. Justice Awasthi took over as Chairman on 9 November 2022.

 

7 14 day long exhibition ‘Chhaap’ inaugurated at Delhi Haat

The 14-day exhibition Chhaap organised by   the National Institute of Fashion Technology   in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles began at Delhi Haat  . The ministry said that the exhibition showcases creative collaboration between the students, alumni and artisans of the institute. More than 160 stalls have been set up by artisans, handloom weavers and designers from across the country in this exhibition.

8 Union Cabinet approves 7 projects worth Rs 14,235 crore

 

The Union Cabinet   approved  seven projects  worth more than  Rs 14,235 crore to improve the lives of  farmers  and increase their income. The Cabinet  has approved  the Digital Agriculture Mission costing Rs 2,817 crore. The Union Cabinet has approved a scheme costing Rs 3,979 crore for food and nutrition security.  This initiative will prepare farmers for climate change and provide food security by 2047. The government has  also decided to strengthen  agricultural education and management  at a cost of Rs 2,291 crore  . This will help agricultural students and researchers to deal with the current challenges. In the cabinet meeting, a  scheme to increase livestock health and its population  at a cost of  Rs 1,702 crore  was also approved. The objective of this decision is to increase the income of farmers from livestock and dairy. Apart from this, the  sustainable development program of horticulture  was also approved  at a cost of  Rs 1,129 crore . It has been decided to strengthen Krishi Vigyan Kendras at a cost of one thousand two hundred two crore rupees and natural resource management at a cost of one thousand one hundred and fifteen crore rupees. In this cabinet meeting, a 309 km long new railway line project between Mumbai and Indore has also been approved at a cost of 18 thousand 36 crore rupees. This railway line will be laid between Indore and Manmad. This project will be completed by 2028-29.

9 Railway Minister showed the model of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Railway Minister  Ashwini Vaishnav  gave  a glimpse of the  first model of  Vande Bharat Sleeper Train  . It  has been made in the factory of  Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML)   in  Bengaluru . Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will start from December. Manufacturing work is completed. Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will travel a distance of 800 to 1200 km  . The fare of the train made for the middle class will be the same as that of Rajdhani. Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has 16 coaches. Which includes 11 (3AC), 4 (2-AC) and 1 (1-AC) coaches.

10 An Indian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Barmer, Rajasthan

A MiG-29 fighter plane   of  the Indian Air Force crashed near Barmer  in  Rajasthan  . The Air Force said that the fighter plane developed a technical fault during a night training mission, after which the pilot had to eject from the plane. The pilot is safe and there is no report of any loss of life or property. The Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry in this case.

 The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sought clarification from the content head of OTT platform Netflix  on the content related to   the web series IC-814  . The content head will personally appear before the ministry to clarify the alleged controversial issues of the web series. This matter has come to light in the backdrop of the alleged controversy over some characters in the web series. The IC 814 series released on Netflix on 29 August is based on the Kandahar plane hijack. The names of the terrorists who hijackered the plane were Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar, Sunny Ahmed, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir, which were changed in the web series. In the IC 814 series, the Hindu names of these terrorists have been kept as Bhola and Shankar.

12 Paris Paralympics-2024: India reached 15th place in the medal tally on the fifth day, Sumit Antil retained his gold medal in javelin throw competition

On the fifth day of Paris Paralympics 2024,  India  has reached  15th place in the medal tally  . Sumit Antil  has   retained  his  gold medal in the javelin throw competition  . Antil also created a new record by throwing the javelin 70.59 meters in his second attempt  . With this, India has a total of  10 medals  so far. India has so far won 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze  medals in the Paralympics  .

13 India’s 9th medal in  Paralympic Games: Nitesh Kumar won gold medal in badminton

India’s Nitesh Kumar  has   won  the gold medal in badminton in the 2 September Paralympic Games.   Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal in   the SL3 category of badminton men’s singles . Yogesh Kathuniya  won   the   silver medal  by   scoring 42.22 meters in the final of Men’s Discus Throw F-56  . Avni Lekhara  has won  the gold medal  in shooting  . Nishad Kumar  has  won  the silver medal  in  the T-47 category of men’s high jump. Preeti Pal  has  won the bronze medal in the 100 meters and 200 meters race.  Manish Narwal won silver in shooting   ,  Mona Agarwal and Rubina Francis  won  one  bronze each.
