1.President of India to receive first copy of book ‘Future of Indian Universities: Comparative and International Perspectives’ :-

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will receive the first copy of the book ‘Future of Indian Universities: Comparative and International Perspectives’ at a function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow (July 17, 2017).

He will receive the first copy of this book from Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen who will formally release it.

The book ‘Future of Indian Universities: Comparative and International Perspectives’ is the academic and research work of scholars, educationists and practitioners from India and abroad.

It aims to provide international and comparative perspectives on higher education and highlights issues being faced by Indian Universities. It has been complied by Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of JGU University and is published by Oxford University Press.

 

2.Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh addressed a gathering on 89th Foundation Day of ICAR :-

The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh has said that agricultural scientists have played a significant role in bringing Green Revolution and developing research and technology.

He was addressing the 89th Foundation Day Celebration of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Annual Award distribution function here today.

The Minister said that since 1951 foodgrain production in the country has increased five times, fish production 14.3, milk production 9.6 and egg production 47.5 times.

In the Horticulture Sector, there has been a threefold increase in fruits and vegetable production as compared to1991-92

 

3.Tajinder wins gold but misses Worlds :-

Before every throw, Tajinder Singh Toor borrowed a left shoe from his Punjab State-mate Navtejdeep Singh and went for his attempt. Was it some sort of lucky charm, one was curious to know.

“No, the circle was too slow, too rough, so I had to use his ‘fast’ shoe which can handle the rough area better,” explained shot putter Tajinder, the recent Asian Championships silver medallist, at the 57th National inter-State athletics championships here on Sunday evening.

The shoe helped but not as much as the Asian season leader Tajinder would have liked. The 22-year old won the gold without any difficulty with a 19.46m effort but he was still far away from the 20.50m he desperately needed to qualify for the next month’s World Championships in London.

 

4.Visit of Chief of the Air Staff to France  :-

Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa PVSM AVSM YSM VM ADC, Chief of the Air Staff is on an official visit to France from 17-20 Jul 17.

The visit is intended to further strengthen the existing defence cooperation between the Air Forces of the two countries.

The areas of cooperation presently include exchanges in military training courses, mutual visits by subject matter experts and joint air exercises.

During his stay at France the Chief of the Air Staff is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the senior military officials of the French Armed Forces.

 

5.Government holds All Party Meet ahead of Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning :-

Addressing floor leaders of parties in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha here today, ahead of Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning tomorrow, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that for preserving the institution of Democracy in India, it is important that all Political Parties support the Government to conduct business in both the Houses of the Parliament without disruption and constructive discussion takes place on issues of national importance.

Prime Minister, in one voice with the leaders of all parties, also asserted that all Political Parties stand united to ensure nation’s safety and security, after such concerns were raised by many leaders on recent developments.

 

6.IBBI notifies rules for bankruptcy probe :-

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has powers to start probe against service providers registered with it without intimating them, according to new regulations.

IBBI, which is implementing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), has notified the regulations for inspection and investigation of service providers registered with it.

Insolvency professional agencies, professionals, entities and information utility are considered as service providers under the Code.

 

7.NDMC Smart City projects given timelines; Rs.1,240 cr worth works to begin in October :-

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has been asked by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs to ensure completion of smart city projects ahead of time so as to lead by example in smart city making across the country.

Timelines for the same have been fixed at a two hour review of implementation of NDMC’s Smart City Plan taken by Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary (Housing & Urban Affairs) last evening. Shri Naresh Kumar, Chairman, NDMC and senior officials of the ministry and the Council attended the review.Of the Rs.1,800 cr Smart City Plan of NDMC, work on a range of major impactful projects will begin in phases by October this year, for which tendering is in progress.

These include setting up of a Unified Command and Control Centre, Smart water and power grids, multi-level parking at Khan Market, sensor based smart parking, public bike sharing, converting an additional 333 classrooms into smart ones, Sewage Treatment Plants, smart public hygiene centres etc.

Smart redesign of 13 roads totaling 31 kms including seven roads leading to Connaught Place will begin much earlier.

 

8.Pakistan Army Chief to decide Kulbhushan Jadhav’s appeal ‘on merit’ :-

Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is “analysing” the evidence against Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death by a military court, and will decide his appeal on merit, the Army said here on Sunday.

Mr. Jadhav filed a mercy petition before Gen. Bajwa last month, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement issued on June 22.

The statement said the former Indian Navy officer had filed the petition after the Military Appellate Court rejected his appeal.

 

9.9th Slum Yuva Run flagged off by Sports Minister Vijay Goel, Power Minister Piyush Goyal, MoS Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju & Olympian Yogeshwar Dutt :-

Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Vijay Goel here today flagged off the 9th Slum Yuva Daud with Minister of Power Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Parvesh Verma M. P. and Olympic medalist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt.

The run started from Sahib Singh Verma Park (Kakrola Village) and ended at SDMC Community Hall (Dwarka Sec-17). Around 3000 youth from Delhi slums participated and each of them was awarded medals and certificates.

 

10.Fantastic Federer wins record eighth Wimbledon title :-

In a Wimbledon final that was less about the match and more about the man, Roger Federer brushed aside Marin Cilic, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.

To those that gathered to watch him win, the historical significance of the victory — a 19th Grand Slam, a record eight Wimbledon wins — seemed inconsequential before the rare and enchanting beauty of his game, a reminder that tennis, even in an era that has privileged power over placement and precision, can be a thing of amazing grace.

 

11.India launches solar project in Egypt :-

India has launched a solar project with state-of-the-art technology to electrify a remote village in Egypt.

The Solar Electrification Project, an off-grid system that is ideal for remote locations, has been launched at Agaween village in the Western Desert in Matrouh Governorate, close to the Libyan border.

India provided all the solar panels and sub-systems, machinery, equipment and technical support, as well as training for technicians, while the Egyptian government provided the location for implementation of the project.
