1 President’s rule imposed in Manipur
President’s rule has been imposed in Manipur on Thursday under Article 356 of the Constitution . Five days ago, the state’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned. In a notification issued by the Home Ministry on Thursday, it was said that the President has received a report from the Governor of Manipur and after considering the report and other information received by the President, he is satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the government of that state cannot function according to the provisions of the Constitution.
2 New Income Tax Bill introduced in Lok Sabha, cryptocurrency defined as ‘income from other sources’
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the new Income Tax Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha . Its objective is to make tax laws simple, transparent and modern . After presenting this bill, the Finance Minister urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to form a permanent committee to study and review it. It is worth noting that this new bill will replace the Income Tax Act of 1961 and will bring many important changes for individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. In this new bill, the language of tax laws has been made easier and compatible with modern definitions. For example, the term ‘ tax year ‘ has been used in place of ‘ assessment year ‘. Apart from this, new words like ‘ virtual digital asset ‘ cryptocurrency and ‘ electronic mode ‘ have been added so that digital transactions and virtual assets can be clearly brought under the purview of the tax system.
India is working on the Deep Ocean Mission to explore the secrets hidden in the depths of the ocean . Speaking about this, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Ministry of Earth Sciences is developing a manned submersible ‘Matsya 6000’ through the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai . Its purpose is to carry three people to a depth of 6000 meters in the sea along with a set of scientific sensors for marine exploration and observation. Manned submersible Matsya 6000 is likely to be built by 2026. Technologies developed under the Deep Ocean Mission will expand the country’s capacity for deep-sea human-powered vehicle development and pave the way for sustainable exploration in the deep sea and exploitation of living and non-living resources in the deep sea.
4 Five-day North East Unity Festival is going to be organized from February 15
The five-day Northeast Unity Festival is going to be held from February 15. Under the theme ‘ One Voice, One Nation ‘, the event will be held in New Delhi till February 20, 2025. The event will symbolize unity, mutual cooperation and challenging the prevailing stereotypes through sports and cultural activities. Organized in collaboration with Assam Rifles and North East Association Social Welfare, the event celebrates the sporting spirit and cultural heritage of Northeast India.
5 ICC appoints Shikhar Dhawan and three others as Champions Trophy ambassadors
The International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of world cricket , has appointed former Indian men’s cricketer Shikhar Dhawan as one of the four ambassadors of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The 9th ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is being co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19 February to 9 March 2025. The four ICC ambassadors of the 2025 Champions Trophy are- India’s Shikhar Dhawan, Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed, Australia’s Shane Watson and New Zealand’s legendary fast bowler Tim Southee .
6 Pankaj Advani won the National Billiards title for the 36th time
India’s top cueist Pankaj Advani won his 36th National Billiards and 10th Snooker title at the 91st Billiards and Snooker National Championship 2024 held at Indore, Madhya Pradesh . The 91st Billiards and Snooker National Championship 2024 for Seniors, Juniors and Sub Juniors was held at Indore, Madhya Pradesh from 7 January to 16 February 2025. It was organized by the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India and hosted by the Madhya Pradesh Billiards and Snooker Association. The girls and women’s competitions were held at the Indore Tennis Club, Indore from 7 January to 18 January 2025. The boys and men’s competitions were held at the famous Yashwant Club, Indore from 17 January to 16 February 2025.
7 World Radio Day
Declared by UNESCO Member States in 2011 and adopted as a UN International Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 , February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD) . This year’s theme ‘ Radio and Climate Change ‘ highlights the important role radio plays in spreading awareness about climate-related issues.
