1 Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow on a three-day official visit

Prime Minister  Narendra Modi   has reached  Moscow on a three-day official  visit  to Russia and Austria. He  was given  a guard of honour at Moscow airport. The Prime Minister was welcomed  by  Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov . At the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit,  Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin  will discuss a wide range of bilateral issues, including defence, trade and investment, energy cooperation, education, culture and people-to-people contacts. The two leaders will also discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest. They will also assess the current state of bilateral relations in forums such as BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, G-20, East Asia Summit and United Nations. In the second leg of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will visit Austria tomorrow. The Prime Minister’s first visit to Austria is taking place at the invitation of the Chancellor there.

2 Global Conference on Plastic Recycling and Sustainability concludes in Delhi

The four-day Global Conference  on  Plastics Recycling and Sustainability (GCPRS)  concluded on July 7, 2024 in New Delhi. The global conference provided a platform for industry leaders, innovators, policy makers and other stakeholders in the plastics industry including environmental experts to   exchange views on the latest trends and innovations in plastics recycling and sustainable practices .  Nivedita Shukla Verma, Secretary, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers  inaugurated the Global Conference on Plastics Recycling and Sustainability on July 4, 2024. The Global Conference on Plastics Recycling and Sustainability was   jointly organized by All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA)  and  Chemicals & Petrochemicals Manufacturers Association (CPMA) .

3 Maharashtra gets the Best Agricultural State Award for 2024

The 15th Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee  has   selected  Maharashtra for the Best Agricultural State Award for 2024.  This announcement was made by the 15th Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee headed by  Justice P Sathasivam, former Chief Justice of India and Governor  of  Kerala  . Maharashtra  Chief Minister Eknath Shinde  will receive the award at a ceremony in New Delhi on July 10, 2024. According to the 15th Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee, Maharashtra has been selected for the award for its innovative agriculture and rural initiatives. The award recognises the innovative policies and high-impact developmental initiatives of the Maharashtra government that have promoted agriculture and rural prosperity in the state. The annual Agriculture Leadership Awards were instituted in 2008 by Agricultural Today magazine. The award honours the contribution of various stakeholders – government, individuals and organisations – who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in agriculture.

4 Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena launched ‘Public Entertainment Portal’

Delhi  ‘s Lieutenant Governor  Vinay Kumar Saxena  launched the   ‘ Public Entertainment Portal ‘  at the New Delhi Municipal Council Convention Center. Under this portal, people will get the entire process for obtaining licenses for entertainment activities  online in a single portal. NDMC said that the integrated portal simplifies and streamlines the application process by reducing paperwork significantly. Under this, applicants can apply online by integrating them on a single platform instead of visiting the offices of various regulatory authorities like NDMC, MCD,  Delhi  Fire Service and Delhi Police one by one.

5 Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed bilateral security agreement in Warsaw

Ukrainian  President  Vladimir Zelensky  and  Polish  Prime Minister  Donald Tusk  have   signed a bilateral security agreement in  Warsaw . The agreement came a day before the start of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization-NATO  summit in Washington. The Ukrainian President said in a social media post that defense cooperation and the needs of Ukrainian security forces are the main priorities of his government. Mr. Zelensky said he believes in building a peaceful and strong Ukraine as well as a peaceful and strong Poland. The agreement reflects Poland’s continued defense support for Ukraine. Poland also promised to support energy security for Ukraine and participate in reconstruction.

6 Jammu and Kashmir: Directorate of Health Services launches Pony Ambulance Service for Shri Amarnath Yatra

 The Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir in  J&K has launched a ‘ Pony Ambulance ‘ service  for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2024 , which is providing crucial healthcare support to the pilgrims during their journey. This innovative initiative conceptualised by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director Health Services and under the guidance of Secretary Health and Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah has been widely appreciated by the pilgrims. The Pony Ambulance is an emergency response system mounted on horses equipped with medical kits and oxygen cylinders which accompany pilgrims to Baltal and Pahalgam. Trained staff handle the Pony Ambulance which provides instant solutions to any health issues faced by the pilgrims during the journey.

7 Indian players won men’s and women’s singles titles at the St Denis Re-Union Open badminton tournament

India   has won the men’s and women’s singles titles  in  the Saint Denis Re-Union Open badminton tournament. In men’s singles, India’s  Tarun Manepalli  defeated  Japan  ‘s  Yudei Okimoto  21-15, 21-15. This is Tarun’s second title of the year. Earlier, he had won the Kazakhstan International Challenge tournament. In the women’s singles final, India’s  Tasnim Mir  won  the title by defeating Rakshitha Shri  21-15, 21-19. In the men’s doubles final, the Indian pair of Prakash Raj and Gaus Shaik lost to France’s Julien Mayo and William Villiger 9-21, 14-21.

8 Kenyan runner Faith Kipyegon breaks her own 1500m world record at the Paris Diamond League

Kenyan  middle-distance runner  Faith Kipyegon  broke   her own  1500m world record  at  the Paris Diamond League . Kipyegon finished the race in three minutes and 49.04 seconds,  0.07 seconds slower than her world record set in Florence, Italy last year. Kipyegon is already a two-time Olympic 1500m champion and has three world titles.

9 Jayasuriya became the coach of Sri Lanka cricket team

On July 8,  the Sri Lanka Cricket Board  appointed  Sanath Jayasuriya  as the coach of the team during  the T20 and ODI series  against India  . He will replace former coach Chris Silverwood  . After Sri Lanka’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup, head coach Chris Silverwood and advisory coach Mahela Jayawardene resigned from their posts. Sanath Jayasuriya has played 586 matches for Sri Lanka in all three formats. Jayasuriya has 42 centuries and 440 wickets to his name. He played his last international match in 2011. Team India will tour Sri Lanka at the end of this month. The Indian team has to play a series of three T20 matches first and then a series of three ODI matches from 27 July to 7 August. After this, Sri Lanka has to go on a tour of England at the end of August to play a series of three Test matches. The first Test is between 21 and 25 August, while the second Test is to be played from 29 August to 2 September and the third Test is to be played from 6 to 9 September.

10 John Cena announces his retirement from WWE

On July 7, professional wrestler  John Cena  announced   his retirement from  World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) . His last WWE match will be at WrestleMania  in  Las Vegas in 2025.  John Cena will appear in the first Raw episode of 2025, which will mark WWE’s debut on Netflix. After this, John will participate in the Royal Rumble in February and Elimination Chamber in March. His last match at WrestleMania in Las Vegas will be on April 19-20. John Cena signed a contract with WWE in 2001. John Cena is also a gold medalist in the Summer Olympics. He is a 16-time WWE World Champion, which is a record. John Cena is also a Hollywood actor and hip-hop singer.

11 Avinash Sable of India sets new national record in 3000m steeplechase at Paris Diamond League

On July 7,  Indian racer Avinash Sable  set  a new national record  at  the Paris Diamond League  . He   completed the 3000 meter steeplechase race in 8:9:91. Indian athlete Avinash Sable  finished   6th in this race.  Abraham Sime  of Ethiopia  and  Amos Serem  of  Kenya  finished first with a time of 8:02:36. Abraham Kibiwott of Kenya got third place with a time of 8:06:70. Avinash completed the 3000 meter steeplechase race in 8:11:20 in 2022. He won the gold medal in the Asian Games 2023. Avinash Sable was born on 13 September 1994   in Beed, Maharashtra .

12 Dhruv Sitwala won the Asian Championship title in Billiards.

Dhruv Sitwala  defeated  Pankaj Advani to win the 2024 Asian Men’s Billiards Championship held in   Riyadh,  Saudi Arabia   . The Asian Championship was organized by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) from 27 June to 5 July 2024  in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi  Arabia. The Asian Championship included the Men’s Snooker Team Championship, Men’s Billiards Championship and Women’s Asian Snooker Championship events. The title win in Riyadh was the third Asian Billiards title for Dhruv Sitwala. Dhruv Sitwala had previously won the Asian Billiards title in 2015 and 2016.
