3.Prime Minister launches flagship scheme for farmers:-Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred the first installment of 2000 rupees to each farmer’s account while launching the Prime Minister Kisan Pradhan Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme for the welfare of more than 10 million farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. Inaugurating the electronic transfer of the farmers’trust fund, Shri Modi said that this scheme is completely safe and it will be executed with complete transparency. He also asked the State Governments to make available the list of farmers to be provided soon. Shri Modi said that for the scheme of Rs. 75000 crores, the funds have been allocated in the budget.India’s economy is based on agriculture. India is one of the largest agricultural productivity countries. India is also a big exporter of rice and wheat. The livelihood of approximately 55 percent of the population is dependent on agriculture and this region holds 14 percent of the gross domestic product. Nevertheless, progress in this area has not been progressing compared to other areas. In the last decade, this area is moving forward at an annual rate of 3 to 4 percent. Farmers also do not get the proper value of their products.The government has made several corrective efforts to increase the income of the farmers and has also increased the minimum support price (MSP). Many states have also run their own schemes to increase the income of the farmers. The PM-Kisan plan will help the farmers to complete some of their expenses. This is not a loan forgery scheme. This scheme can prove to be a bonus for the farmers.The demand for debt forgiveness has been rising, but the government did not consider that option as it has many adverse consequences and it also has huge burden on the economy. Launching the PM-KisanYojana, Prime Minister Modi said that the total debt of farmers in 2008 was Rs 7,50,000 crore, out of which the government had waived only Rs 52,000 crore.The government is committed to doubling the income of farmers by 2022. The government’s endeavor is to remove the problems of the agricultural sector through this scheme, which has arisen due to the reduction in its sales after the bumper yield of food, pulses, sugarcane, cotton and horticultural crops. In the interim budget 2019-20, the Central Government has announced the PM-KisanYojana, which will be given 6000 rupees per year to nearly 120 million small farmers of the country who have agricultural land till two hectares. This scheme has been implemented since the present financial year, as a result of which the first installment of this amount is to be given by the end of March this year.This is a central government sponsored scheme in which the central government will bear the entire amount. To avail the scheme, State / Union Territories will have to upload and publish the District wise list of beneficiaries on the PM-Kisan website of the Central Government. This scheme is effective from December 1, 2018 for eligible beneficiaries.The PM-Kisan plan will not only provide assured income to the needy farmers but will also be able to fulfill their requirement especially during the crop. The Prime Minister has rightly said that the loan waiver could have been a simple and easy way for his government, but his government wanted to make something unique for the farmers. PM-KisanAdhash Nidhi Yojana is a step taken in the right direction for providing power to small and medium farmers at any time of natural calamity. The government’s efforts should not be seen as a decision for any political will to help the farmers at the time of crisis.
