Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the first edition of India Innovates 2026 at the Palais des Expositions de Nice in Nice, France . This landmark event, organized as an initiative of the Ministry of Education , serves as a premier platform to advance innovation-based partnerships between India’s deep-tech innovators and global stakeholders . Following the inauguration, the two leaders visited the India Innovates Innovation Pavilion, which showcased 120 cutting-edge technologies and disruptive innovations developed by Indian innovators and the country’s leading higher education institutions. These innovations spanned sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, mobility, and space technology. India Innovates aims to showcase and promote Indian deep-tech innovations globally , fostering partnerships with investors, industry, institutions, and innovators worldwide . It is expected to further deepen bilateral cooperation between India and France in the areas of science, technology, innovation, education, and entrepreneurship, as well as enhance India’s participation in global innovation networks. India Innovates 2026, held over three days from June 14th to 16th, 2026 , is a comprehensive event featuring 11 high-level panel discussions, sector-focused masterclasses, curated B2B matchmaking meetings, exclusive investor pitch sessions featuring over 50 startups, and dedicated networking sessions with global investors, corporate entities, universities, incubators, and policymakers. The event brings together global industry leaders, investors, academics, and technology experts to deliberate on emerging opportunities in sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, biotechnology, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, space, defense, and climate technologies. The first edition of India Innovates reflects the shared commitment of India and France to foster the creation of a future-ready innovation ecosystem driven by collaboration, talent and transformative technologies.

To further deepen innovation-based cooperation between India and France and foster collaboration between young innovators from both countries, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) , NITI Aayog , and La Fondation Dassault Systèmes have established the India-France ATL Bridge, a collaboration launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. The initiative establishes the first school innovation lab in France, inspired by India’s Atal Tinkering Lab ( ATL ) model . It will provide a structured platform to collaborate with young students, strengthen ties between innovation ecosystems, and deepen bilateral innovation cooperation between the two countries. A Letter of Intent (LOI) formalizing this collaboration was exchanged on Sunday in France between Deepak Bagla, Director of Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and Marie-Pierre Olas, Managing Director of La Fondation Dassault Systèmes. The India-France ATL Bridge will serve as a strategic platform to promote cross-border innovation programs, entrepreneurial exchanges, and deeper collaboration between the Indian and French innovation ecosystems. Through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and joint innovation activities, the initiative will enable young innovators to jointly address real-life challenges and strengthen early-stage innovation capabilities. By strengthening ties between young innovators, educators, and other stakeholders, the initiative aims to further develop a vibrant culture of innovation and foster mutually beneficial partnerships between India and France. The India-France ATL Bridge initiative is being launched during the India-France Year of Innovation 2026, reflecting the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening innovation-based collaboration and preparing talent for the future.

The DRDO conducted three consecutive flight tests on June 10th and 11th , demonstrating a multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system . Defense Minister Rajnath Singh shared this information on his social media account on June 13th . The tests also tested India’s ability to intercept long-range ballistic missiles and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)-class threats. During this test, the DRDO successfully tested the AD-1 and AD-2 interceptor missiles . These missiles are capable of detecting, tracking, and destroying enemy ballistic missiles with a range of 2,000 to 5,000 kilometers . According to the Ministry of Defense, these tests have placed India among the countries possessing BMD capabilities to intercept ICBM-class threats . The Ballistic Missile Defense System is a sophisticated defense network consisting of powerful radars, command centers, and interceptor missiles. The purpose of BMD is to detect, track, and destroy enemy ballistic missiles before they reach their target. This system can intercept missiles both within the atmosphere (endo-atmospheric) and in the exo-atmospheric region. This testing will strengthen India’s multi-layered missile shield. Like the US, Russia, China, and several other countries, India has now joined the group of countries with advanced BMD capabilities. India has joined the ranks of countries that have eliminated the threat of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) . Prior to India, this technology was possessed by the US, Russia, Israel, and China. India has become the fifth country to possess a ballistic missile defense system. The Naval Anti-Ship Missile Medium Range (NASM-MR) was also successfully tested. This is considered a major achievement in strengthening India’s maritime strike and defense capabilities. The AD-1 is a long-range, two-stage interceptor capable of intercepting medium- and long-range ballistic missiles. The AD-2 is an advanced interceptor of the Phase-II BMD system, developed to eliminate high-speed and ICBM category threats.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will develop an advanced artificial heating system in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy to protect the lunar lander from the harsh cold on the Moon . Speaking at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Startup Entrepreneurship Conference in Bengaluru, ISRO chief V. Narayanan stated that the solar-powered Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander operated on the Moon for only 14 days . ISRO is now working with the Department of Atomic Energy to develop a lander that can last for 200 days on the Moon . This lander will be equipped with artificial heaters capable of operating in extreme weather . The lunar day and night are approximately 14 Earth days long , and daytime temperatures reach 121 degrees Celsius and drop to 0 to 129 degrees Celsius at night . Mr. Narayanan stated that ISRO and CSIR have identified 40 areas of technical cooperation. Of these, 17 have already received approval for implementation in the first phase. A similar research partnership is underway with the Department of Science and Technology. This will help develop medicines for the manned Gaganyaan mission. ISRO also worked with the Department of Biotechnology for the microgravity experiments conducted by Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla during the Axiom-4 mission.

On June 13th , the central government approved the use of 100% pure ethanol as fuel in the country . Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced this at a press conference in Nagpur . The primary objective of increasing the use of pure ethanol is to reduce the country’s dependence on crude oil (fossil fuel) imports. Ethanol will also reduce vehicle pollution and is an economical and sustainable option. India currently meets a large portion of its oil needs by importing crude oil from abroad. According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the country’s automobile sector has approved this change. Several major companies are fully prepared to launch 100% ethanol-powered vehicles. According to the Union Minister, some companies, including Toyota, Suzuki, MG, and Hyundai, will launch ethanol-powered vehicles within the next six weeks. Ethanol is a type of alcohol produced by the fermentation of starch and sugar.

The government has appointed renowned economist Professor Alakh N. Sharma as the Chairman of the High-Level Technical Expert Committee on Labor Statistics . This committee will review employment and labor market data in the country and recommend measures to make them more accurate, comprehensive, and timely. The committee will also study India’s changing labor market. Professor Sharma is currently the Director of the Institute of Human Development. He has over 40 years of experience in employment, labor, poverty, and development.
7 Indian Army officers can now wear bandi jackets

On June 14 , the Indian Army released its new Dress Regulations booklet (Army Uniforms-2026). According to the new dress regulations, for the first time, the bandi jacket, or closed-neck coat, has been included in the formal dress uniform. According to the new rules, army officers will now be able to wear the bandi jacket while on duty. The jacket will be worn over a full-sleeved shirt and will be simple and sober, not in any flashy color. Matching trousers and closed shoes will be mandatory with the bandi jacket. Both neck-hook designs will be acceptable, whether or not the jacket has a neck hook. The ceremonial pouch belt has been removed from dress numbers 5 and 6. Carrying a sword during parades has been made optional for reviewing officers . Under the rules, female officers can wear plain-colored saris or dupattas, along with kurta-salwars and ankle-length straight pants. This rule clearly prohibits the wearing of sleeveless kurtas and casual lowers like palazzos or pants. The recently released 174-page manual ‘Army Uniforms-2026’ details these amendments. These changes have been made to reduce colonial-era traditions present in the army uniform . The manual states that the objective of these changes is to gradually eliminate colonial symbols while maintaining the dignity, functionality and traditions of the army. The Adjutant General’s Branch issues the Dress Regulation booklet. All guidelines, designs and grooming standards related to the army uniform are regularly updated and published under this wing.

Ahead of International Yoga Day 2026, the Ministry of AYUSH achieved a historic milestone on Sunday , setting a new Guinness World Record for the highest viewership of a live yoga broadcast on YouTube . 435,831 viewers joined a special global online yoga session broadcast live on the Ministry of AYUSH’s official YouTube channel. The event promoted the Ministry’s vision of promoting yoga as a daily practice through the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and the Yoga 365 campaign. The Ministry of AYUSH recorded 435,831 verified viewers, surpassing the previous Guinness World Record of 246,252 viewers set in 2024. This new record was 189,579 more than the previous record, thus setting a new world record for the highest viewership of a live yoga broadcast on YouTube. This year’s Yoga Day theme is – Yoga for Healthy Aging.

Over 5,000 dancers performed a Bharatanatyam mass performance in Colombo , Sri Lanka , achieving a historic cultural milestone. This mass performance was recorded in the Guinness World Records . This celebration of Indian classical dance and cultural heritage was organized by Sangamam Global Academy of India and Samgamiz Liya of Sri Lanka. Thousands of dancers from Sri Lanka, India and several other countries participated in the event. The event aimed to showcase the timeless tradition of Bharatanatyam and promote cultural ties across borders. Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha received the Guinness World Records certificate on behalf of the artists and organizers.

World Wind Day is celebrated every year on June 15 to promote wind energy and its role in combating climate change. India will host the World Wind Day 2026 Conference on June 15, 2026 , in Goa under the theme ” Wind Energy: Ambition to Acceleration .” The conference will bring together representatives from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Grid India, major state governments, and senior representatives from industry and associations. India has an estimated gross wind energy potential of 695.5 GW at 120 meters and 1,163.9 GW at 150 meters above ground level . The majority of the estimated energy potential at 150 meters is concentrated in eight high-resource states: Rajasthan: 284.2 GW; Gujarat: 180.8 GW; Maharashtra: 173.9 GW; Karnataka: 169.3 GW; Andhra Pradesh: 123.3 GW; Tamil Nadu: 95.1 GW; Madhya Pradesh: 55.4 GW, Telangana: 54.7 GW.
