1 Prime Minister inaugurated the National Technology Day 2023 event in New Delhi on 11 May

Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi  inaugurated   the program organized on the occasion of National Technology Day 2023  at Pragati Maidan in  New Delhi . The event   also marked the beginning of the 25th year celebrations of National Technology Day to  be held  from May 11 to 14 . On this proud occasion, the Prime Minister   laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation several projects related to scientific and technological progress  worth more than  Rs 5800 crore . The projects for which foundation stones were laid include  Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory-India (LIGO-India), HingoliHomi Bhabha Cancer & Research Centre, JataniOdisha and  Platinum Jubilee Block of  Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai . Projects dedicated to the nation include  Fetion Molybdenum-99 Production Facility, MumbaiRare Earth Permanent Magnet Plant, VisakhapatnamNational Hadron Beam Therapy Facility, Navi MumbaiRadiological Research Unit, Navi MumbaiHomi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Visakhapatnam ; and  Women and Children Cancer Hospital Building Navi Mumbai Are included. LIGO-India to be developed at Hingoli in Maharashtra will be one of the few Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory in the world. It is a highly sensitive interferometer of 4 km arm length capable of sensing gravitational waves generated during mergers of massive astrophysical objects such as black holes and neutron stars. LIGO-India will work in synchronization with two observatories operating in the US – one at Hanford Washington and the other at Livingston Louisiana. Rare earth permanent magnets are mainly produced in developed countries. The Rare Earth Permanent Magnet production facility has been developed in the premises of Bhabha Atomic Research Center at Visakhapatnam. The facility has been set up based on indigenous technology and using indigenous rare earth material extracted from indigenous resources. India Rare Earth with this feature Will join a select group of countries with the capability to produce permanent magnets. The National Hadron Beam Therapy Facility at Tata Memorial Centre, Navi Mumbai is a state-of-the-art facility which works for highly precise delivery of radiation to the tumor with minimal dose to the surrounding normal structures. Precise delivery of dose to the target tissue minimizes early and delayed side effects of radiation therapy. The fission molybdenum-99 production facility is located at the Trombay campus of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Molybdenum-99 is the parent of technetium-99m, which is used in more than 85 percent of imaging procedures for early detection of cancer, heart disease, etc. The facility is expected to scan around 9 to 10 lakh patients per year. 2 Telangana Governor inaugurates Y-20 India celebrations

Telangana  Governor  Dr. Tamilisai Soundaryarajan  has called upon the students to face challenges in life and overcome every obstacle to emerge stronger. The Governor   inaugurated the Y-20 India celebrations  at  the English and Foreign Languages ​​University campus  in  Hyderabad . He said that youth have an important role in the country’s progress towards stability and self-reliance. In connection with India’s G-20 chairmanship, Y-20 i.e. Youth-20 programs are being organized in various universities across the country.

 3 Indian Council of Medical Research and Ministry of AYUSH signed an MoU

The Indian Council of Medical Research  and  the Ministry of AYUSH  have signed an MoU to enhance cooperation on health research in the field of integrative medicine. On this occasion, Health Minister  Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya  said that this will contribute significantly in the development of integrated medicine. He said that the MoU will combine traditional knowledge with modern research and promote Ayurveda to make its mark based on scientific evidence. AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that this agreement will further strengthen evidence-based research capabilities.

4 Over 100 health programs and digital health applications integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

Over 100 health programs and digital health applications have  been integrated  with  the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission . The National Health Authority is rapidly expanding these with the integration of health programs under its flagship scheme, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. These include  e-Sushrut, e-Sanjeevani ESIC, Haryana e-Upchar, ANM Andhra Pradesh and 33 health apps from the private sector along with other health care services from the government sector. Health Ministry has said that integration of digital health solutions with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will act as a catalyst in building digital health infrastructure. In this, more and more people are able to take advantage of health services like Aabha account, access to health records digitally, instant OPD registration.

5 So far more than five crore people in the country have joined the Atal Pension Yojana

Atal Pension Yojana (APY) , a flagship social security scheme of the Government of India, has completed eight years of its successful   implementation . The government has said that more than five crore 25 lakh  subscribers have been linked to the Atal Pension Yojana in all the states and union territories. With the objective of providing old age income security to all citizens of India, especially workers in the unorganized sector, the scheme was launched  on 9th May 2015  by Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi. was done by The Finance Ministry said that there has been an increase of 20 percent in 2022-23 as compared to the financial year 2021-22. New Atal Pension Yojana account can be opened by any Indian citizen in the age group of 18 to 40 years having a savings bank account. This is a voluntary pension scheme, under which the subscribers will get pension after attaining the age of 60 years. Under this, a minimum guaranteed pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month will be available from the age of 60 depending on their contribution.

The Ministry has said that the year 2023 has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets to create awareness about millets and to increase their production and consumption. The inclusion of coarse grains in this competition will provide an opportunity to the participants to show their creativity with innovation. It will create awareness towards food safety and nutrition. Indian citizens in the age group of 18 to 40 years can participate in this competition. The dishes should be home cooked and 50 per cent coarse grains should be used in it.

7 7th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Startup Forum 2023

Startup IndiaDepartment for Promotion of Industry and Internal TradeMinistry of Commerce  recently   organized the 3rd edition  of  Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Startup Forum  for the first time in  New Delhi . Earlier  two editions  have been successfully organized virtually . It aims to increase conversation about startups among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries, create more jobs and encourage youth to create innovative solutions. The forum was attended by representatives of SCO member states including government officials, heads of private industries and startups and incubators.

8 Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the exhibition ‘Buddha Sharanam Gachhami’ at National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi

Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of External Affairs and Culture,   in the presence of senior Buddhist monks, ambassadors, diplomats and officials of the Ministry, at the National Museum of Modern Art, New Delhi  on May 10, 2023  ‘ Budham Sharanam Gachhami ‘‘ inaugurated the exhibition. Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche of Drepung Gomang Monastery was the guest of honor on the occasion. Mission heads and followers from several countries were present on the occasion. It was attended by representatives of various countries dominated by Buddhism – Nepal, Myanmar, Mongolia, South Korea, Thailand, Bhutan. Senior diplomats from Denmark, Greece, Luxembourg, Jamaica, Portugal, Georgia, Iceland, Ecuador, Syria, Peru and many other countries were also present on the occasion. The exhibition showcases paintings from countries like Sri Lanka and Myanmar and explains how Buddhism spread to different countries.

9 35th edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT)

The 35th edition  of  the India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT)  between  the Indian Navy  and  the Royal Thai Navy  was conducted from 03 to 10 May 2023. Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kesari , an indigenously built LST (L) and Her Majesty’s Ship (HTMS) Saiburi, a Chao Phraya class frigate, and maritime patrol aircraft of both the navies patrolled the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the Andaman Sea. 10 Shimla Police introduces ‘One Minute Traffic Plan’ to ease vehicular movement in the city

Shimla  , the capital of  Himachal Pradesh  , will soon have a new traffic arrangement aimed at  reducing traffic congestion  during   the tourist and apple harvest season . According to the One Minute Traffic Light Plan proposed by the police,   traffic lights will be installed at 10 places to make the state capital jam-free. This will reduce the travel time across the city from 60-90 minutes to 15-25 minutes. The proposed traffic system is based on time, number and space. vehicles  every minute in the ratio of 40:20 and 30:30 seconds i.e. they will be stopped for 40 seconds and released for 20 seconds during peak hours, and stopped and released for 30 seconds during normal times. The new traffic system will also have a minimum stopping distance of 500 metres.

11 Uttar Pradesh launches School Health Program

 To  improve the overall health and well-being of municipal school students , the Department of Urban Development  in  Uttar Pradesh and Lucknow Smart City  have launched a School Health Program  in Lucknow  . This program has been started in three schools of the city as a pilot project to check the physical and mental health of 1765 school students of the Municipal Corporation. The program is a digital health report card for each child.  also prepares and provides health insurance of Rs 25,000 to these children. The school health program aims to detect diseases among children and improve their academic performance and future prospects by enhancing their physical and mental health. The pilot project is expected to be successful and implemented in nine other smart cities in the state.

12 Swamp Deer released in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR)   is located in the eastern Satpura hill range of  Umaria and Katni districts  of Madhya Pradesh . The name “Bandhavgarh”   is derived from the story related to Lord Sri Rama and his brother Lakshmana . It is believed that Lord Shriram gave this fort to his brother to keep watch over Lanka, and this fort has been known as Bandhavgarh ever since. This tiger reserve is important because of its diverse flora and fauna, which includes a healthy population of tigers and various herbivores. Recently, many reindeer have been released into the sanctuary. The team of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Management had brought the reindeer from Kanha National Park, located about 200 km from the Tiger Reserve.

13 1st Dubai Fintech Summit Held

Recently,  Dubai  hosted  the Dubai Fintech Summit  from 8 to 9 May  ,  organized by the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) ,  the leading international financial center in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. The summit was inaugurated  by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum  , who holds the position of First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE and serves as Chairman of the DIFC.

14 Ladakh Monlam Chenmo for world peace and prosperity begins in Leh-Ladakh from today

Ladakh Smonlam Chenmo, a five-day special annual prayer festival of Buddhist monks  and  nuns  for  world peace and prosperity,  begins in Leh-Ladakh. Due to Kovid, the collective prayer could not be organized for the last three years. This program is being organized by All Ladakh Gonpa Association. Smonlam Chenmo is a major annual prayer festival of the Sangh community in Ladakh.The special camp, titled ‘Service for the Sangh’, will be led by Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal from May 11 to 16.

16 Air Force receives first batch of indigenously built VTOL fighter aircraft ALS-50

The Air Force  has received  its first  indigenously designed and developed Loitering Munitions . They are capable of operating from all types of terrain and high altitude areas and can engage targets at ranges of more than 50 km without putting any personnel at risk. Developed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)  , the autonomous system   is designed for Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) and has successfully demonstrated its ability to conduct precision strikes during tests and trials. The ASL-50 fighter aircraft has successfully demonstrated its capability to attack targets during the test at Pokhran.

17 Appointment of Neera Tandon as Domestic Policy Advisor in Biden Administration

Indian-American Neera Tandon  was appointed as the domestic policy advisor  in the Biden administration  . The move was taken keeping in mind the presidential election, which is due in 2024.  Tandon’s appointment is historic, as she becomes the first Asian-American to lead the White House Council of Advisors. Neera Tandon was born in Massachusetts to Indian immigrant parents. He studied at the University of California Los Angeles and Yale University. Tandon has over 25 years of experience working in public policy and has worked with three US Presidents.

18 Pulitzer Prizes 2023 announced

 Winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize  in  Journalism  on  9 May 2023 ; Books, Drama and Music; And special citations were announced. The Associated Press  has   won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism under the Public Service category . Damon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver (Harper) and Trust, by Hernan Diaz (Riverhead Books) won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in Books, Drama and Music under the Fiction category. The Pulitzer Prize, administered by Columbia University  in  New York, United States (USA),  is considered the most prestigious award in American journalism. pulitzer prize 22 categories, i.e. 15 categories of journalism; Recognizes work in seven art categories and one special citation. The Pulitzer Prize was founded by Hungarian-American journalist and newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer. The Pulitzer Prizes were first awarded in 1917. Of the 22 categories, only  the winner in the public service category of the journalism competition  is awarded a gold medal. The Public Service Award is always given to a news organization, not an individual, although an individual may be named in a citation. Winners in 21 other categories receive a US$15,000 cash prize and a certificate.

19 ISRO started Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START) program

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has  recently   launched an initiative to provide students with an overview of various aspects of  space science and technology . 20 Ukraine shoots down Russia’s hypersonic Kh-47 Kinzhal missile

Ukraine  announced that it   shot down a Kinzhal missile for the first time. The missile was targeted and   shot down over Kiev using the American Patriot  air defense system . Kinjal is a Russian word meaning dagger. In 2018, President Putin unveiled six next generation weapons and the Kinjal missile is one of them. The Kinjal missile has a range of up to 2,000 km (1,250 mi) and travels ten times the speed of sound, making it a challenging target to intercept. Additionally, the missile has the capability to carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.
