In Tamil Nadu, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former MP Ila Ganesan will be the new Governor of Manipur . President Ram Nath Kovind approved his appointment. The post of Manipur governor had fallen vacant after the retirement of Najma Heptulla earlier this month. Heptulla had retired on 10 August and the charge of Manipur Governor was handed over to Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad on the same day .
- India’s tallest herbal park inaugurated near India-China border
Uttarakhand‘s Chamoli district of Mana village in India-China border to an altitude of 11,000 feet on India’s highest herbal parkwas inaugurated. This high altitude herbal park has been inaugurated with the objective of conserving various medicinal and culturally important alpine species and to conduct research on the dissemination and habitat ecology of these species. This park has been developed in Mana village in an area of three acres. Mana Van Panchayat had given the land. It has been developed by the research wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department. The park was developed over three years under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme of the Central Government. This herbal park comprises 40 species that are found in the high altitude alpine regions in the Indian Himalayan region.
- India approves Kigali amendment to Montreal Protocol
India hydrofluorocarbons( Hydrofluorocarbons – HFCs ) to eliminate the phases of the Montreal Protocol for the Kigali agreement is approved ratification. India now needs to reduce its HFC usage by 80% by 2047 . China and America in 2045 and 2034decided to achieve this goal. According to experts, India has given an example of its climate leadership by approving the ratification process. Under the ratification, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) will be phased out quickly, which in turn will make the Indian industry globally competitive in climate-friendly cooling products. The phasing out of HFCs would prevent emissions of 105 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent to greenhouse gases. Thus, it will help in avoiding 0.5 degree Celsius rise in global temperature by 2100 and will also help in protecting the ozone layer. India is the first country to launch a cooling action plan in 2019.

On August 20, 2021, China introduced a new online privacy law aimed at preventing businesses from collecting any sensitive personal data .passed. The new law was passed in the backdrop of China facing a rise in Internet scams. In recent months, companies such as ride-hailing company ‘Didi’ and gaming company Tencent have been accused of misuse of personal data. Under the new rule, China is targeting tech companies that are collecting personal data. Under this, China’s top legislative body, state as well as private entities handling personal information are required to reduce data collection and obtain user consent before processing it. However, the Chinese state security apparatus will retain access to personal data. The law also provides that, personal data of Chinese citizens cannot be transferred to countries with lower standards of data protection than China.

From July 2021 to August 2021, he served as the 13th Deputy Prime Minister. He was also the Minister of Defense in the Perikatan Nasional Administration since March 2004 and the Member of Parliament for the Bera constituency. He has become the shortest serving Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia as he has only served for 40 days.

India and Russia have signed an agreement to purchase AK-103 rifles on August 20, 2021 . The deal has been done as a part of the Mega Infantry Modernization Programme . Under this programme, several AK-103 series assault rifles are being procured from Russia for the Indian Army. The deal was finalized under the provisions of emergency purchase or emergency financial powers, which are given to all three services to make immediate purchases. The Indian Army needs 7,70,000 AK-47 203 rifles. Of this, 1,00,000 will be imported and the rest will be manufactured in India.
