1 Singapore was declared the safest country in Asia in 2025 GPI
Singapore has been declared the safest country in Asia in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025. Singapore has secured 6th position globally. This report has been released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). In this, 163 countries were evaluated on parameters like security, conflict and militarization. Although Singapore has slipped one place compared to 2024, its peace score has improved, which reflects its consistent dedication to social stability and public safety.
Most peaceful country: Iceland – 1.095 (consistently ranked first)
India’s position: 115th position , score 2.229 (same as 2024)
2 Home Ministry constituted IMCTs to assess damage caused by natural disaster in states
On the instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the damage caused by heavy rains, floods, flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Punjab and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. These central teams will visit the flood or landslide affected districts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir early next week. In fact, during the current monsoon season, heavy to very heavy rains, flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides have been badly affected. An IMCT and a Multi-Sectoral Team have already visited Himachal Pradesh. These central teams will be led by senior officers of the Joint Secretary level of the Ministry of Home Affairs / National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and include senior officers of the Ministries / Departments of Expenditure, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Jal Shakti, Energy, Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development.
3 TCA Kalyani took over as Controller General of Accounts
TCA Kalyani , a 1991 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer , on Monday assumed charge as the country’s new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) . She is the 29th officer to hold this prestigious post in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance . During her entire tenure, Kalyani has worked in key ministries including Defence, Telecommunications, Fertilizers, Finance, Social Justice and Empowerment, Information and Broadcasting and Home Ministry. Kalyani has consistently promoted transparency and efficiency in public service delivery by adopting technology. Her leadership was instrumental in launching the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to farmers for fertilizer purchase assistance from the Government of India.
4 Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the IMC25 App in New Delhi
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday launched an AI-based mobile app for the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025. Describing it as a ” gateway to connection, collaboration and results “, he said that the app will further enhance the experience for the participants. The 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress will be held from October 8 to 11 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Center in Dwarka , New Delhi . This time its theme has been kept as ” Innovate to Transform “. This new mobile app is equipped with many modern features. It includes live streaming, AI-based personalized suggestions, networking tools for startups and participants, and built-in chatbots for instant assistance. India Mobile Congress 2025 will showcase more than 1,000 use cases related to 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), quantum computing, semiconductors, clean technology and smart mobility. The event is being jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) .

The Institute for Advanced Study in Science and Technology in collaboration with IIT Guwahati has researched, designed and synthesized an organoselenium compound . The Ministry of Science and Technology said that this newly developed compound can reduce the aggressiveness of breast cancer cells by modulating them . The compound exerts anticancer effects by targeting multiple survival mechanisms within cancer cells. This treatment blocks two major pathways including the formation of reactive oxygen species and reducing inflammation.
6 Indian Railways and State Bank of India signed MoU to provide enhanced insurance benefits to Railway employees in the presence of Shri Ashwini Vaishnav
A historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between two of India’s leading institutions, Indian Railways (IR) , one of the largest rail networks in the world, and the country’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI) . Under this MoU, the insurance coverage for railway employees having salary accounts with SBI has been significantly enhanced. In case of accidental death, the insurance benefit has been enhanced to Rs. 1 crore, while the current coverage for Group A, B and C employees covered under CGEGIS is Rs. 1.20 lakh, Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively . Further, all railway employees having only salary account with SBI will now be eligible for natural death insurance coverage of Rs. 10 lakh without paying any premium or undergoing any medical examination .
7 Department of Posts signs MoU with ESRI India to expand Digipin initiative
The Department of Posts (DoP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Geographic Information System (GIS) software and solutions provider ESRI India Technologies Private Limited (ESRI India) . Under this MoU, DoP will be able to use ESRI India’s high-resolution imagery and street basemaps for its Digipin portal . This collaboration will enable integration of Digipin with ESRI India’s Living Atlas portal, making it accessible to the larger GIS community. In addition, ESRI India will provide technical support to DoP for seamless integration of their services with Digipin.

The Indian Army conducted a large-scale exercise ‘ Yudh Kaushal 3.0 ‘ in the Kameng region of Arunachal Pradesh , a high-altitude and extreme climate area of the Eastern Himalayas . The military exercise showcased multi-domain combat readiness, integration of emerging technologies and collaboration with indigenous defence industries. The initiative underlines India’s efforts towards military modernisation in line with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
9 Rare dragonfly reconfirmed in higher reaches of Western Ghats
A major breakthrough has been made in Indian biodiversity studies recently. Odonatologists (dragonfly experts) have reconfirmed the presence of a rare dragonfly species called Crocothemis erythraea in the southern part of the Western Ghats . It was previously misidentified due to its resemblance to common species. This rediscovery not only highlights the ecological uniqueness of high altitude habitats, but also explains how ancient climate events shaped today’s biodiversity.
10 Government notifies 100% FDI in insurance sector
Taking a major policy step towards liberalization in the financial sector, the Government of India has issued a notification allowing 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector . After getting approval from the Parliament, this provision will eliminate the current limit of 74% . This will increase the flow of foreign capital in India’s insurance industry as well as promote innovation and competition. This provision is included in the Indian Insurance Companies (Foreign Investment) Amendment Rules, 2025. By removing the 74% FDI limit, a provision has been made that the investment will be as per the Insurance Act, 1938. 100% FDI will be allowed through the automatic route , but it will be verified by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) .
11 Tokyo World Athletics Championships 2025: Neeraj Chopra will lead India’s 19-member team
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Sunday announced India’s final 19-member squad for the World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo next month . The team includes 14 men and 5 women athletes , who will compete in 15 different events . India’s biggest medal hope will once again be javelin throw world champion Neeraj Chopra , who has qualified directly through a wild card entry as the defending champion. Apart from him, three more Indian javelin throwers – Sachin Yadav, Yashveer Singh and Rohit Yadav – will also enter the fray. Three athletes have qualified directly by crossing the entry standard – Gulveer Singh (5000 meters), Praveen Chitraval (triple jump) and Parul Chaudhary (3000 meters steeplechase) . Gulveer will also participate in the 10,000 meters race, while middle distance runner Pooja will challenge in both 800 meters and 1500 meters events. However, Avinash Sable, Nandini Agarsara and Akshdeep Singh had qualified but did not find a place in the team due to medical reasons. The World Athletics Championships will be played in Tokyo from 13 to 21 September .

13 Assam: International Primate Day celebrated in Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in collaboration with Aaranyak NGO celebrated International Primate Day at Rhinoland Park, Burapahar Range on Monday. The day is celebrated every year on September 1 to raise awareness about the conservation and protection of primate species around the world. Primates are animals that usually live on trees and are considered intelligent such as monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees . During this, the participants also witnessed a demonstration of building and installing canopy bridges using jute ropes to show how these structures can help primates cross roads safely and reduce roadkill incidents.
