1 Spain won the Football World Cup after 16 years.

Spain  won  the World Cup  after a 16-year absence  . The team  defeated 2022 champions Argentina  1-0  in  the final played at  New Jersey Stadium in New York . Ferran Torres  scored  Spain’s goal in extra time  . This marked Spain’s second victory, after 2010,  when they defeated the Netherlands 1-0.

2 All 4 students from Team India won gold medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

 

 

 India performed brilliantly at   the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026 ,  held  in  Tashkent, Uzbekistan , from July 10 to 19, 2026. All four students in the team  brought glory to the country by winning gold medals. These students are: *. Debdutt Priyadarshi (Gold), Bhubaneswar, Odisha *. Harshit Singla (Gold), Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab *. Kabir Chhillar (Gold), Delhi *. Sandeep Kuchi (Gold), Hyderabad, Telangana India secured joint first place in the national medal tally,  along with China, Vietnam, and Russia  in the individual participant group ‘ Group B ‘   . This year, 363 students from 93 countries participated in the International Chemistry Olympiad, making it the largest IChO to date. With all four students winning gold medals, this marks India’s best-ever performance at IChO and a historic achievement of winning all gold medals for the first time.

3 Indian teams won 1 gold and 3 silver medals at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2026 held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

India performed exceptionally well at  the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO)   held   in   Vilnius  , Lithuania from July 12 to July 19, 2026 , with all 4 students from the team winning medals  –  1 gold and 3 silver . The medal winning students are: *. Bhavya Gunwal (Gold) – Mahendragarh, Haryana *. Saumil Maity (Silver) – Howrah, West Bengal *. Nishit Kalani (Silver) – Pali, Rajasthan *. Anmol Kumar (Silver) – Mansa, Punjab A total of 307 students from 78 countries participated and competed in this year’s International Biology Olympiad. In total, 31 gold, 61 silver and 91 bronze medals were awarded at the Olympiad.

4 Bihar’s first river link project inaugurated, Bagmati water reaches Budhi Gandak from Belwa

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary  inaugurated   the state’s first river linking project   in Sheohar district on Sunday  . Water from the Bagmati River was diverted from the Belwa Dam through a link channel  to the Budhi Gandak River in Minapur, Muzaffarpur. A large number of ministers, public representatives, officials, and local residents were present on the occasion. CM Samrat Chaudhary inaugurated the Belwa-Minapur link channel, constructed at a cost of ₹130.88 crore (130.88 crore rupees). He also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various development projects in Sheohar district, totaling ₹184.682 crore (184.84 crore rupees). Under the Bagmati-Budhi Gandak River Link Project, a 68.80-kilometer-long link channel has been constructed from Belwa (Sheohar) to Minapur (Muzaffarpur). The objective of this ₹130.88 crore (130.88 crore rupees) project is to better manage excess floodwater, increase irrigation capacity, and provide adequate water to farmers throughout the year. The government claims this will increase agricultural production and strengthen the rural economy. The completion of the Belwa dam, located at the outskirts of Shivhar and bordering East Champaran, will directly benefit Shivhar, Sitamarhi, and Muzaffarpur districts. According to the government, the project will benefit approximately 5 million farmers and ensure permanent irrigation for approximately 1.39 lakh hectares of agricultural land.

5 India has completed its first geothermal well in Puga Valley, Ladakh: Prahlad Joshi

New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi  has announced that India  has completed its first geothermal well in  the Puga Valley of Ladakh   . This paves the way for the country’s  first 1-megawatt geothermal power project  . Mr. Joshi said in a social media post that these wells, dug to a depth of 1,000 meters at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, are a major step towards harnessing the earth’s natural heat for sustainable, 24-hour clean energy. Mr. Joshi said that this major achievement strengthens the country’s renewable energy goals and supports the vision of a net-zero and carbon-neutral future.

6 Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won the Japan Open 2026

 On July 19 ,  India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu   won  the Japan Open Super-750 badminton tournament . Sindhu is the first Indian badminton player to win this tournament. The 31-year-old defeated Akane  Yamaguchi  of Japan 21-17, 21-17  in the final  . Previously, Sindhu participated in the major World Championships in 2019 and won an international title. Sindhu’s last title was the Singapore Open Super 500 in 2022. In 2012, Sindhu won the gold medal at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships for the first time. In 2013, she became the first Indian woman to win a bronze medal at the World Badminton Championships. In 2013, PV Sindhu was awarded the Arjuna Award. She was honored with the Padma Shri in 2015 and the Padma Bhushan in 2020. The Japan Open Super-750 is a prestigious international badminton tournament held in Tokyo, Japan. It is part of the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Tour and is considered the fourth-highest tournament in the sport in terms of ranking points and prize money. The BWF organizes a variety of tournaments throughout the year. Super-750 is one of the six levels. Winning a tournament at this level earns players over 7,000 ranking points.

7 Indian wrestler Kajal wins gold in Hungary, defeats Diamond Precious Guilford of the United States in the final

 In women’s wrestling ,  Indian wrestler Kajal  defeated   Diamond Precious Guilford of the United States to win  the gold medal in   the 76 kg category   in Budapest, Hungary  . This is  India’s third gold  medal of the competition. India also won two silver medals in the 53 kg and 57 kg categories.

8 Goa: Former Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate passes away after prolonged illness

 Jennifer Monserrate, MLA from  Taleigao, Goa and former Revenue Minister,  passed away after a prolonged illness. She was suffering from cancer. She was the wife of Revenue Minister  Atanasio Monserrate  . Jennifer Monserrate  was a three-time member of the Goa Legislative Assembly  . She represented the Taleigao constituency since 2012. In  July 2019  , she was  inducted into Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s cabinet  and was given the responsibility of the Revenue, Information Technology, Labour and Employment departments. Jennifer Monserrate was the only woman minister in the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet and the first woman MLA elected from Taleigao. In July 2019, Jennifer Monserrate was among the ten Congress MLAs who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
