The Union Government has launched a National Awards Portal to bring together various Ministries, Departments and Agencies and to ensure transparency and public participation in them. This portal will facilitate every citizen or organization to nominate individuals or organizations for various awards given by the government . The portal is available at https://awards.gov.in .

2.Nominations for Padma Awards can be made till September 15

Nominations for Padma Awards 2023 can be made till 15th September this year . Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan are the highest civilian awards of the country . The Ministry of Home Affairs has informed that the process of online nomination and recommendation for Padma Awards was started on May 1 this year. The awards will be announced on Republic Day next year. These awards are given for distinguished work and exceptional achievements and contribution to service in the fields of arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry. The ministry has said that all citizens of the country are eligible for these awards without any distinction of caste, occupation, position or gender.

3.Indermeet Gill appointed as Chief Economist of World Bank

Indermeet Gill was recently appointed as the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Development Economics, World Bank .has been appointed as He will replace American economist Carmen Reinhart for the post. Indermit Gill will be appointed on September 1, 2022. He is currently the Institute’s vice president of equitable development, finance and leading work on macroeconomics, debt, poverty, business and governance. For the post of Chief Economist, he will work with country governments on macroeconomic imbalances, development, institutions, poverty, conflict and climate change. He is known for his intellectual contributions to development economics. He has become the second Indian to serve as the Chief Economist at the World Bank. Prior to him, Kaushik Basu worked as Chief Economist from 2012 to 2016.

4.Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi: Cooperative bank run by women will be started in Rajasthan

The Government of Rajasthan has recently approved the Stree Nidhi Credit Co-operative Federation of the Government of Telangana to set up a women-only cooperative bank called “Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi” .signed a Memorandum of Understanding with It will promote women empowerment by supporting their enterprises. Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi will be established on the lines of Telangana Stree Nidhi. It will strengthen the Self Help Groups of women in Rajasthan by providing them timely credit facilities for their enterprises. It will be operated by all women employees. It will be set up as a complementary body with the formal banking system. This institution can reduce the number of loan applications pending in banks. The proposal for the establishment of Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi was placed by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the budget speech of 2022-23. During the initial two years of operation, the state government will provide a grant of Rs 50 crore. Apart from this, the state government has demanded a grant of Rs 110 crore from the central government. Mahila Nidhi will be operational in 15 districts of Rajasthan in the first year. At present, it has covered 6 districts Karauli, Kota, Alwar,

9.Cabinet’s Economic Action Committee approves additional investment of Rs 12,000 crore by Bharat Petro Resources in BM-SEAL-11 project in Brazil

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an additional investment of about twelve thousand crore rupees by Bharat Petro Resources Limited for the development of the BM-SEAL-11 concession project in Brazil . BPRL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited . The BM-SEAL-11 project is expected to start production from 2026-27 . BPRL has a participating interest (PI) of 40 percent in this concession, with Brazil’s national oil company Petrobras holding 60 percent as an operator. BPRL has been involved in the exploration and development of this project in Brazil since 2008.

10.The Union Cabinet has approved a package of more than one lakh 64 thousand crore rupees for the revival of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

The Union Cabinet has approved a revival package of more than one lakh 64 thousand crore rupees for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited- BSNL . The merger of Bharat Broadband Network Limited and BSNL has also been approved. Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told after the cabinet meeting in New Delhi that the objective is to make BSNL a sustainable entity and a vibrant telecom company. He said that with the help of this package, the services of BSNL can be increased.

Digital inclusion and connectivity for all is an integral part of the Government’s vision of ‘ Antyodaya ‘. Last year, the government approved a project to provide 4G mobile services in 7,287 underprivileged villages in 44 aspirational districts across five states . In his Independence Day address in the year 2021, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had called for the completion of government schemes. The Union Cabinet today approved a project to complete 4G mobile services in all mobile unserved villages across the country at a total cost of Rs 26,316 crore. Under this project, 4G mobile services will be provided in 24,680 underprivileged villages located in remote and inaccessible areas of the country.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has asked SpiceJet to operate only fifty per cent of the sanctioned flights for eight weeks following various glitches . As per the new order, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation-DGCA has limited the number of flights permitted by SpiceJet to 50 per cent under the Summer Schedule-2022. The directorate has said that this order has been issued after a series of investigations, inspections and show cause notices given to SpiceJet.

The Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya presided over a seminar on “ Safe use of chemicals at workplace ” organized in New Delhi . The seminar was organized by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) and International Labor Organization (ILO).did. On this occasion a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DCPC and ILO in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Mandaviya for adoption of International Chemical Safety Card (ICSC). The International Chemical Safety Card (ICSC) data sheets are, The purpose of which is to provide a summary of essential safety and health information about chemicals. The primary purpose of this card is to promote the safe use of chemicals in the workplace. The main users are workers and who are responsible for occupational safety and health. The International Chemical Safety Card (ICSC) will be used by the Department to disseminate appropriate hazard information about chemicals at the workplace in an understandable and easy to understand manner. At present there are 1784 chemical protection cards available. ICSAC has been developed on behalf of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the European Commission and is regularly updated to take into account the latest scientific developments. These cards encourage industry associations on chemicals to promote the safe use of chemicals in the workplace.

The Prime Minister , Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of the famous Assamese writer Shri Atulananda Goswami . Sahitya Akademi awardee litterateur Atulananda Goswami passed away at a hospital in Guwahati. He was 87 years old. Widely recognized for his novel ‘ Namghoria ‘ written in the early 1990s, Goswami received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006 for his short story collection ‘ Seneh Jarir Ganthi ‘ . He was also honored with other honors including Ambikagiri Roy Chowdhury Literary Award, Kumar Kishore Smriti Award, Katha Award and Sneh Bharati Sahitya Samman.
