1.Dadabhai Naoroji’s house in London gets ‘Blue Plaque’ honor

An eminent member of the Indian freedom struggle and Britain’s first Indian parliamentarian, Dadabhai Naoroji has been awarded the ‘ Blue Plaque ‘ in the South London house where he lived for nearly eight years . ‘ English Heritage ‘The charity’s scheme ‘Blue Plaque’ is an honor given to buildings of historical importance in London. Naoroji was given this honor recently and it has been given at a time when India is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its independence. Naoroji lived in this London house for nearly eight years in the late 19th century. Known as the “Grand Old Man of India”, Naoroji, at such times Washington House, 72 Enerle Park, Penge, Bromley went to live when he was becoming an ideological supporter of India’s complete independence in 1897. Born in Mumbai to a Parsi family, Naoroji was an influential and intellectual leader in both India and Britain. Much of his work was based on his so-called drain theory of British colonial rule. The drain theory formed the basis of the classic Indian nationalist interpretation of British colonialism. He was elected on a Liberal ticket to the North London constituency of Finsbury Central in the general election of July 1892 and made history as the first Indian to sit in the British Parliament.

2.Government launches Cheetah Project to restore endangered species in Indian Territory

The government has decided to start the ambitious Cheetah Project . Its goal is to resettle its species in the historical range belonging to the cheetah in India . The project for the resettlement of wild species, especially the cheetah, has been taken up as per the guidelines of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Environment Ministry has said that there is a need for careful planning and implementation of disease screening, quarantining of rescued animals and movement of wildlife from one continent to another. Agreement has been signed with Republic of Namibia and MoU with South Africa is in the process of signing.

5.Palan 1000 National Campaign & Parenting App

6.Arunachal Pradesh launches ‘Medicine from the Sky’ project

8.11 advocates promoted as judges in Punjab and Haryana High Court

Eleven advocates were promoted to the rank of judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and with this a total of 138 judges in various high courts this year.have been appointed. This information was given by the Ministry of Law. The names of the judges appointed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court are as follows- Nidhi Gupta, Sanjay Vashisht, Tribhuvan Dahiya, Namit Kumar, Harkesh Manuja, Aman Choudhary, Naresh Singh, Harsh Bangar, Jagmohan Bansal, Deepak Manchanda and Alok Jain. The names of 13 advocates were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, out of which 11 were approved by the government. The Justice Department of the Law Ministry said in a statement that 26 judges were appointed to the High Courts of Allahabad, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Guwahati, Orissa and Himachal Pradesh. With the new appointments, the government has made 138 appointments in various High Courts so far this year.

9.Indian Railway Protection Force launched “Operation Yatri Suraksha”

Indian Railway Protection Force (RPF) has launched a pan-India campaign known as Operation Yatri Suraksha . Under this initiative, several steps have been taken to provide round the clock security to the passengers. To give impetus to Operation Passenger Safety, a month-long pan-India campaign against criminals targeting passengers was launched by RPF in July 2022. During the operation 365 suspects were apprehended by RPF personnel and handed over to the concerned GRP for legal action based on which 322 cases of passenger crime i.e. theft of passenger baggage, drugging, dacoity, chain snatching etc. were reported. The stolen property of passengers worth more than one crore rupees was recovered from the possession of criminals or during investigation of these offences.

10.State Bank of India launches “Utsav Fixed Deposit Scheme”

State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a unique fixed deposit program named “ Utsav Deposit Scheme ”. This fixed deposit scheme has high interest rates and is available for a limited time only. This program has been introduced on the occasion of 76th year of independence of the country, which is celebrated as Amrit Mahotsav of Independence . SBI is offering an interest rate of 6.10% per annum on fixed deposits with a tenure of 1000 days . And senior citizens will be eligible to get an additional interest rate of 0.50% over and above the regular rate . These rates are effective from 15th August 2022 and the plan is valid for a period of 75 days .

12.Union Cabinet approves 1.5 percent interest subvention on short-term agricultural loans up to Rs.3 lakh

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for restoration of interest subvention on short-term agricultural loans to 1.5 percent for all financial institutions. Thus an interest subvention of 1.5 per cent will be provided to the lending institutions (public sector banks, private sector banks, small finance banks, regional rural banks, co-operative banks and computerized PACS directly linked to commercial banks) to the farmers for the year 2022-23. From 2024-25 to 2024-25 short-term agricultural loans up to Rs.3 lakh have been provided. An additional budgetary provision of Rs 34,856 crore would be required for the period from 2022-23 to 2024-25 for the increase in the interest subvention under this scheme .

13.The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the Fund of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme to increase the limit of admissible guarantees.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to increase the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) limit by Rs 50,000 crore from Rs 4.5 lakh crore to Rs 5 lakh crore . This additional amount has been specifically earmarked for enterprises in hospitality and allied sectors. This increase has been made keeping in mind the severe disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in hospitality and allied enterprises.

19.National Thermal Power Corporation expands its reach in solar power sector and achieves installed capacity of 69454 MW

National Thermal Power Corporation-NTPC Limited , India’s largest integrated power company has commissioned 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at NTPC Kawas, Gujarat on 15.08.2022 with 69454 MWThe group established and achieved commercial potential. The company plans to install 262 MW of floating solar power on over 1300 acres of its reservoir area by installing more than 9,50,000 PV modules at its various stations, out of which 242 MW has been commissioned. This includes the country’s largest floating solar power plants of 100 MW at Ramagundam in Telangana, 92 MW at Kayamkulam in Kerala and 25 MW at Simhadri in Andhra Pradesh and Kawas in Gujarat. These projects will illuminate over 2,00,000 homes and help reduce CO emissions by over half a million tonnes on an annual basis. Apart from these, the projects will save 5 trillion liters of water per year, which is 15, This is enough to meet the annual water needs of 1,000 households. NTPC has become the first power company in the world to announce its energy intensive targets. Recently it has collaborated with NITI Aayog to achieve ‘Net Zero’ goals. NTPC Group plans to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy by the year 2032. At present, NTPC has 2.3 GW of ongoing renewable capacity with 3.9 GW under implementation and execution.
