1.Country’s largest FDI deal, Russian group bought Essar Oil for $ 12.9 billion :-

Essar Oil of the Ruia brothers has completed sales deal to sell their Indian business to the Russian company Rosneft for $ 12.9 billion (about 83 thousand million rupees).

This deal was started in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Vladimir Putin last year. It is worth mentioning that this big deal was announced on October 15 during the BRICS Conference held in Goa last year.

 

2.Japan Launches New Satellite to Improve Country’s GPS  :-

Japan launched the third satellite in its effort to build a homegrown geolocation system aimed at improving the accuracy of car navigation systems and Smartphone maps to mere centimeters.

An H-IIA rocket blasted off from the Tanegashima space centre in southern Japan, according to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The rocket successfully released the “Michibiki” No.3 satellite about 30 minutes after launch.

Japan relies on the US-operated Global Positioning System (GPS).

The first satellite was put into orbit in 2010 and the second was launched in June. The fourth is to be launched by March 2018 to start up the service.

Michibiki, meaning “guidance” in Japanese, will cover the Asia-Oceania region and is intended for civilian use.

Japan plans to boost the number of its satellites in orbit to seven by around 2023.

 

3.Nikolay Kudashev as Russia’s New Ambassador to India :-

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed career diplomat Nikolay Kudashev as Russia’s new ambassador to India.

Russian embassy in New Delhi said Kudashev, a specialist in South East Asia, is currently the Deputy Director General Secretariat of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Russia.

The appoint of Kudashev comes nearly seven months after the death of Russia’s previous ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin.

 

4.President of India visits Leh, presents Colours to all five Ladakh Scouts Battalions and Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre  :-

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented Colours to all five Ladakh Scouts Battalions and the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the visit to Leh, in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, was his first outside Delhi since assuming office. In his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, he dedicated the visit to the armed forces of the country.

 

5.“Sankalp Se Sidhi” program being organized across the country to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement :-

“Sankalp Se Sidhi” program is being organized across the country to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement. On this occasion, the Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Ministry has planned to organize the Sankalp Se Sidhi program at 578 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 29 ICAR institutes/SAUs and 53 ATMAs during 19-30 August 2017.

Till 20 August 2017, 18 states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andman & Nicobar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatishgarh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Maharashtra and Gujarat have organized the program at 32 locations.

 

6.Festival of India being Organized in Cote D’ivoire, Liberia and Guinea from 15 August, 2017 – 28 January, 2018 :-

A Festival of India is being organized in Cote d’Ivoire and concurrently accredited countries of Liberia and Guinea from 15 August, 2017 – 28 January, 2018.

The Festival will showcase diverse Indian culture, i.e. classical and folk dances. The events will be held in four cities of Cote d’Ivoire, namely, Abidjan, Yamassoukro and Grand Bassam and Daloa and capital cities of Monrovia of Liberia and Conakry of Guinea.

 

7.Commissioning of Second Ship of Landing Craft Utility MK-IV

‘IN LCU L52’(GRSE Yard 2093) at Port Blair :-

Dr. Jagdish Mukhi, Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, commissioned IN LCU L52 into the Indian Navy today at Port Blair. IN LCU L52 is the second Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy.

The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata. The commissioning of L-52 is yet another manifestation of the potential of the country’s indigenous design and ship building capability.

 

8.Shri Dharmendra Kumar appointed as DG, Railway Protection Force :-

Shri Dharmendra Kumar, IPS (AGMU:84) appointed as the Director General, Railway Protection Force, Railway Board.

Presently he is working in CISF as Additional DG.

The appointment of Shri Dharmendra Kumar will be effective from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

 

9.HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar launches ‘Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat’ :-

‘Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat’ Programme, an initiative of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to prepare a physical Health and Fitness Profile Card for more than 12 lakhs of Kendriya Vidyalaya students was launched in Kochi.

Union Minister for Human Resource Development Shri. Prakash Javadekar unveiled the Profile Card in a function held at Kendriya Vidyalaya at KV NAD, Aluva (Kochi) today.

 

10.Supreme Court decides on the legality of three divorce :-

The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict Tuesday on the legality of three divorces once prevailing in Muslims.

The Constitution bench of the five judges, headed by Chief Justice JS Kehar, reserved the judgment on May 18 after hearing the marathon on three divorces for six days.
