1 The Army has declared 2026 the ‘Year of Networking-Data Centricity’.

The Indian Army  has taken a major step towards modernizing its operational capabilities by  declaring  the year 2026  as the ” Year of Networking & Data Centricity. ” This announcement, made in January 2026 under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi  , is part of a long-term vision to build a future-ready, technology-driven army. This initiative reflects the Indian Army’s increasing focus on digital integration, real-time data sharing, and data-driven decision-making, which are essential for modern warfare. This development is significant for government job aspirants and competitive exam candidates from the perspective of defense reforms, technology in security, and current events. “Networking & Data Centricity – 2026” is a strategic initiative aimed at establishing data as a critical operational resource. Under this initiative, the Indian Army will ensure seamless connectivity at all levels using advanced networking systems.

2 Indian scientists develop first supercomputer simulation on Mpemba effect

Indian scientists have  developed the first supercomputer-based simulation  to understand the long-standing paradox  of hot water freezing faster than cold water  . The Ministry of Science and Technology said that this is technically   called  the Mpemba effect . It had remained a mystery for scientists for a long time.  Researchers at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research have proven the Mpemba effect in water by developing the first simulation of ice formation using  a supercomputer  . The simulation also shows that this effect can occur during the transition from liquid to solid in systems other than water. This research has been published in the Journal of Communication Physics.

3 Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released 55 rare works of classical languages

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan  released  55 rare and valuable literary works   representing  the country’s five classical languages ​​– Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Odia . These included 41 books prepared by the Centers of Excellence for Classical Languages ​​under the Central Institute of Indian Languages ​​(CIIL), 13 books from the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) and a Thirukkural Sign Language Collection. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Pradhan said India’s languages ​​unite society. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had granted national language status to all Indian languages. He said the government had granted classical language status to Marathi, Telugu, Bengali, Assamese, Pali, and Prakrit languages ​​last year.

4 India Energy Week to be organised in Goa from January 27

 

India Energy Week  will be  organised  in Goa from January 27.  The four-day  event will bring together government officials, industry leaders and innovators to promote a secure, sustainable and affordable energy future. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that the event will focus on strengthening energy security, promoting investment and developing practical and comprehensive measures to reduce carbon emissions. Delegations from the US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region are expected to participate in the event. According to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2025, India alone will account for more than 23 per cent of the increase in global energy demand by 2050.

5 The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court upheld the order allowing lighting of lamps at the Deepathoon Stambh.

 

The Madurai Bench  of  the Madras High Court  has  upheld the order allowing  the lighting of lamps at  the Deepathun pillar   located on   the Tirupparankundram hill . The bench comprising Justices G. Jayachandran and K.K. Ramakrishnan  said that the place where the stone pillar called Deepathun is located  belongs to the Lord Subramaniya Swamy temple  . The bench said that lamps can be lit after consultation with  the Archaeological Survey of India  . The court said that the number of people participating can be determined. During the winter session of Parliament last month, several opposition MPs   had also submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding  the impeachment motion against Madras High Court judge Justice Swaminathan  .

6 Maharashtra government constitutes study group for rehabilitation of Agniveers

The Maharashtra government  has  formed a study group to  rehabilitate Agniveers   .  The first batch of 2,839 Agniveers  is set to complete their four-year service in October-November this year. The group will be headed by  retired Colonel Deepak Thonge  . The group will study employment opportunities for Agniveers in state and semi-government services, prospects in the private sector, training requirements, and financial assistance for self-employment. The group will submit its report within three months. According to a resolution issued by the state government’s General Administration Department, 25 percent of Agniveers will be regularized in the armed forces. The rest will need to be accommodated in the police, forest department, fire department, or State Reserve Police Force.

7 India launches new e-business visa for Chinese citizens

India  has  launched a new electronic business visa category  for  Chinese citizens  , aimed at  simplifying, streamlining and regulating business travel  . The e-Production Investment Business Visa,  called the eB-4 visa  , has been launched to support legitimate business activities and meet the growing demand for structured business engagement between India and China. The Indian government has launched the eB-4 visa for Chinese business travelers. This move aims to facilitate travel for investment and production-related activities, as well as support the gradual normalization of people-centered contacts between India and China.

8 DRDO develops portable water purifier for soldiers in remote areas

 

India’s  defense research ecosystem  has taken another significant step towards supporting soldiers deployed in extremely difficult and remote conditions.  The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO)   has developed  portable and hand-operated water purification system that can convert saline water into safe drinking water  . This system will ensure reliable water supply to soldiers during long patrols and deployments in water-scarce areas. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed a hand-operated  Sea Water Desalination System (SWaDeS) to meet the drinking water needs of soldiers deployed in remote, coastal, and high Himalayan regions  . This water purification device, called the Sea Water Desalination System (SWaDeS), was developed by the Defense Laboratory, Jodhpur. The system can be operated manually or with engine assistance. Its purpose is to purify saline water and provide safe drinking water. It is designed to be lightweight, portable, and suitable for field conditions.

9 Justice A. Mohammad Mushtaq appointed as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court

 

Justice A. Muhammad Mushtaq  has  been sworn in as the Chief Justice of  the Sikkim High Court   . Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, Justice A. Muhammad Mushtaq, at a swearing-in ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in the capital.

10 World’s rarest Sandalwood Leopard spotted in Karnataka

Karnataka  ‘s wildlife has once again attracted national and global attention. An extremely rare color variant of leopard has been confirmed for the first time in the state, named the ” Sandalwood Leopard .” This discovery highlights the remarkable genetic diversity of leopards in Karnataka and further strengthens the state’s reputation as one of India’s most important landscapes for large feline conservation.  The ultra-rare strawberry-colored  leopard, popularly known as the Sandalwood Leopard, has been recorded for the first time in Karnataka. This  is only the second such recorded occurrence in India  ; the previous one  was observed in Rajasthan in November 2021 .

11 China launches new missile destroyer

China  recently   strengthened its maritime power by inducting  a new  advanced warship called Loudi  into its navy. This move reflects the rapid expansion of the Chinese navy to match or challenge the US naval power. Loudi  is  a Type 052D guided missile destroyer commissioned into the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy  . A destroyer is a powerful warship used to protect other naval vessels and conduct offensive operations. According to a BBC report, China has now overtaken the US in terms of number of ships and has become the world’s largest navy.

12 Former Union Minister Suresh Kalmadi passes away in Pune

Former Union Minister Suresh Kalmadi  passed  away in Pune at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness  . He   also served as President of the Indian Olympic Association .  He was  Minister of State for Railways during the tenure of  former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao  . A seasoned politician, Mr. Kalmadi represented Pune in Parliament several times and held several important positions during his long political career. Before beginning his political career, he served the country as a pilot in the Indian Air Force. The  2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games  were a significant chapter in his career. Although controversies surrounding these games impacted his political career, he is also credited with establishing sports in India on the international stage and taking steps towards hosting major sporting events.
