1.S.S. Mundra retires from central bank :-

With Deputy Governor S.S. Mundra retiring on Monday, the Reserve Bank of India has allocated his portfolios to other deputy governors.

Importantly, the banking supervision department will be looked after by N.S. Vishwanathan. The RBI’s search committee had interviewed several candidates last week to select Mr. Mundra’s successor.

 

2.Canara Bank launches ”CANDI” in Bengaluru :-

Public sector lender Canara Bank has launched its first ‘Digital Banking Branch’ in Bengaluru.

The branch is reportedly titled “CANDI” and it will aim to provide an end-to-end digital experience to customers.

The most attractive feature of the Digital Branch is a humanoid robot that addresses basic queries of customers on banking products and services.

This is a first-of-its kind initiative by a public sector bank in the country.

 

  1. Ravi Mittal appointed part-time member on IRDAI board :-

Ravi Mittal, who has joined as additional secretary in the Finance Ministry in place of Anil Khachi, is now a part-time member on the board of IRDAI by replacing N S Rao.

Former finance secretary Sushma Nath is another part-time member on the IRDAI board.

Maruthi Prasad Tangirala, has been appointed as ED at IRDAI and his position will be equivalent to a joint secretary.

Mamta Suri, who has been working as chief general manager (CGM) at IRDAI has now been promoted as executive director .

 

4.Login glitch: I-T returns date extended :-

The Centre on Monday extended the deadline for filing income tax (I-T) returns from July 31 to August 5, citing the last-minute rush coupled with widespread difficulties in linking PAN and Aadhaar.

Moreover, the government has granted temporary relief to taxpayers without Aadhaar numbers by allowing them to file their I-T returns without linking the PAN to Aadhaar.

 

  1. Caeleb Dressel: – first ever Swimmer to win three gold medals in one night at worlds Championship :-

The 20-year-old American Swimmer Caeleb Dressel has become the first swimmer to win three gold medals on a single night at either the FINA World Swimming Championship or the Olympics.

FINA World Aquatics Championships was held in Budapest, Hungary.

Dressel started with a victory in the 50-meter freestyle, came back about a half-hour later to nearly break Michael Phelps’ world record in the 100 butterfly, and closed the night by leading off a world-record performance in the mixed 400 freestyle relay.

He now has six gold medals in the championships, putting him in position to tie Phelps’ record of seven at the 2007 Champonships in Melbourne, Australia.

 

6.PM invites ideas for his speech on August 15 :-

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has invited ideas for his address to the nation on 15th August 2017. The Prime Minister has urged people to share their ideas for the speech on the specially created open forum on the Narendra Modi App.

“When I address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on 15th August, I am merely the medium. The voice is of 125 crore Indians.

7.Indian Army Team with T90 Tanks Participates in Tank Biathlon 2017 in Russia :-

The Tank Biathlon commenced with the opening ceremony of International Army Games at Alabino Ranges, Russia on 29 July 2017.

Nineteen nations with three crews each are competing with each other in the Stage I individual races to qualify for the Stage II which will be a relay race. Top twelve teams will be selected for Stage II relay race out of which top four teams will qualify for the final stage relay race scheduled on 12 August 2017.

 

8.The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to inaugurate the two day Conclave of Tax Officers ‘Rajaswa Gyansangam’ scheduled to be held on 1st and 2nd September, 2017 in the national capital :-

A two day Conclave of Tax Officers entitled ‘Rajaswa Gyansangam’ will be held on 1st and 2nd September, 2017 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate this Conclave on the 1st day of September, 2017.

The focus of the discussion will be on GST as well as on unearthing black money. For the first time, on the 1st day of the two day Conclave, the Tax Officers of the State Governments will also be invited for discussion on the GST related issues.

 

9.Swachh Survekshan-2018’s rousing anthem ‘Swachhata Ki Jyot Jagi Hai’ released :-

To further inspire the people to participate in the Swachhata Jan Andolan and connect themselves with the ‘Swachhata Survekshan-2018’ launched today, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs released a song with opening line ‘Swachhata Ki Jyot Jagi Hai’.(The flame of sanitation has been lit).

This song to be used as the anthem for the survey has been released by Shri Babul Supriyo, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

 

10.Sam Shepard, Pulitzer-winning playwright, is dead at 73 :-

Sam Shepard, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Oscar-nominated actor and celebrated author whose plays chronicled the explosive fault lines of family and masculinity in the American West, has died. He was 73.

Family spokesman Chris Boneau said Monday that Shepard died on Thursday at his home in Kentucky from complications related to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

 

11.RBI slaps 3 cr. fine on Union Bank :-

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has slapped a penalty of ₹3 crore on State-run lender Union Bank of India for non-compliance of Know Your Customer (KYC) norms in two separate cases.

One of them was based on media reports related to a fraud in the bank, for which a penalty of ₹2 crore was imposed. In the other case, RBI said it received a complaint regarding huge cash withdrawals in certain accounts maintained with Union Bank of India, for which a penalty of ₹1 crore was imposed.
