1 Three scientists got Nobel in Economic Science
On October 14, the names of Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and Gemma A. Robinson were announced for the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences . The three scientists have studied the ‘ formation of organizations and how they affect prosperity ‘. Acemoglu and Johnson work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Robinson does research at the University of Chicago. The Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Professor Claudia Goldin in 2023. The Nobel Prize is also known as the Bank of Sweden Prize. The Nobel Prize is named after Alfred Nobel, who invented dynamite.
On October 14, Surgeon Vice Admiral Kavita Sahay took over as the Director General of Medical Services (DGMS) in the Navy . Sahay has earlier become the first woman officer to reach the post of Colonel Commandant in the Army Medical Corps . Kavita Sahay has acquired expertise in pathology and oncopathology from AIIMS . She has worked in Army Hospital Research and Referral (HRR) and Base Hospital Delhi. Cantt (BHDC). She has also held the post of professor in the Department of Pathology at FMSC in Pune. Kavita Sahay has been awarded the Army Medal in 2024 and the Vishisht Seva Pad in 2018.
3 Maharashtra State Skill University name changed
On October 14, the Maharashtra government changed the name of Maharashtra State Skill University to ‘ Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University ‘. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announced the decision to change the name of the university during the cabinet meeting. Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Group, passed away on October 9. The Maharashtra government has changed the name of the university in honor of Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata. In Maharashtra State Skill University, students are given skill development courses for employment. Spread over 17 acres, this university is located in Panvel, Maharashtra. It is the first state skill university of Maharashtra. It was established in 2017 under the Maharashtra State Skill Society Act, 2015.
4 Jal Shakti Ministry announces winners of 5th National Water Awards
Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil on Monday announced the list of winners of the 5th National Water Awards . The first prize in the Best State category has been awarded to Odisha , while Uttar Pradesh has got the second and Gujarat and Puducherry have jointly got the third position. Each awardee will be awarded a citation and a trophy as well as cash prizes in some categories. According to the Jal Shakti Ministry, the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation (DoWR, RD & GR) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced 38 winners including joint winners in 9 categories for the 5th National Water Awards, 2023. These include Best State, Best District, Best Gram Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best School or College, Best Industry, Best Water User Association, Best Institution (other than school or college) and Best Civil Society.
5 On the 37th death anniversary of Kishore Kumar, Rajkumar Hirani was honored with the National Kishore Kumar Award in Khandwa
On the occasion of the 37th death anniversary of famous singer and actor Kishore Kumar , the National Kishore Kumar Award was presented to popular film producer, director and screenwriter Rajkumar Hirani in Khandwa , Madhya Pradesh . State Cabinet Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah presented this national award. Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh is the birthplace of Kishore Kumar. This award is given to eminent artists every year by the Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh since 1997 .
6 Working Holiday Maker Visa for Indian Youth
On 14 October, Australia ‘s Assistant Minister of Immigration Matt Thistlethwaite announced the launch of Working Holiday Maker Visa for Indian youth . Thistlethwaite announced the new visa in a press conference during his visit to India. This will give 1 thousand Indian youth aged between 18 to 30 years an opportunity to work and study in Australia . This visa will allow cultural study while staying in Australia for 12 months. Currently, Indian youth are studying in Australia on student visa and working under skilled visa. The visa ballot process has started on 1 October, in which 40 thousand youth have applied so far. The annual limit of Working Holiday Maker Visa is 1 thousand students, who will be selected through ballot process.

PMECRG invites early career researchers to join the country’s transformational journey and contribute to the advancement of India’s scientific excellence and innovation. On the other hand, MAHA-EV Mission is designed to create a strong research and development ecosystem for electric vehicle (EV) components, particularly battery cells, power electronics, machines and drives (PEMD) and charging infrastructure. Both initiatives aim to play a transformational role in bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application.

NASA ‘s Europa Clipper , the largest spacecraft ever built for a planetary mission. The spacecraft aims to investigate whether Jupiter’s moon Europa has conditions suitable for life focusing on the vast subsurface ocean hidden beneath a thick outer shell of ice. The robotic solar-powered probe will enter orbit around Jupiter in 2030 after traveling about 2.9 billion kilometers in 5 years and 6 months. Europa Clipper is named after its destination, Jupiter’s icy moon Europa. Europa Clipper will operate in an intense radiation environment around Jupiter, the solar system’s largest planet.
