1.Appointment of judges: SC collegium clears pending files, 90 names :-

ar-161229946The Supreme Court collegium has cleared “every pending file” on appointments to higher judiciary. The names cleared by the collegium include lawyers and judicial officers. Sources said the collegium headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar held day-to-day sittings and cleared 90-odd names from among the pending names, while rejecting almost 40 per cent of the total names recommended by collegiums of various high courts, almost all of them for reasons of lack of integrity.

 

2.N. Srinivasan cannot represent BCCI in ICC meet: SC :-

4.Maharashtra schools raise Rs 216 crore via crowd funding :-

14187199073aAn LCD projector worth Rs 78,000, a Lenovo laptop and Wi-Fi-enabled classrooms are the latest additions to this Marathi-medium government school at Dhekusim, a village of 1,800 people in Jalgaon’s Ambaner taluka, some 360 km northeast of Mumbai.

July 2015 and December 2016, school teachers in the state managed to raise a whopping Rs 216 crore from the public — funds that have been utilised for revamping classrooms, building new toilets and on digital initiatives, among others.

 

5.Police ask telecom companies to suspend 3G and 4G services in Kashmir Valley :-

6.Wholesale inflation moderates to 5.70% in March :-

17593-suresh-prabhu1iansThe annual rate of inflation based on monthly Wholesale Price Index (WPI) moderated to 5.7 per cent (provisional) for March 2017 thanks to decline in prices of fuel and manufactured products even as food prices hardened, data released on Monday by the commerce and industry ministry showed. The WPI inflation had touched a 39-month high of 6.55 per cent (provisional) in February, while it was -0.45 per cent in March 2016.

 

7.RBI to set up computer emergency response unit :-

rbiThe Sub-Committee of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC), which met on Monday, discussed the setting up of a Computer Emergency Response Team for the Financial Sector (CERT-Fin), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said.

9.Protesting ‘low pay’, Ola, Uber drivers on strike today :-

The agitating union — Sarvodaya Drivers’ Association, which organised a 13-day long cab strike in the NCR in February this year, has called for the fresh strike demanding that cab fares be raised from Rs 6 per kilometre to Rs 20 per kilometre.

 

10.After itel, Transsion Holdings brings Tecno brand to India; debuts ‘i’ series :-

To begin with, the company has launched five smartphones in its “i”series – i5,i5 Pro, i3, i3 Pro and i7. The i5, i5 Pro, i3 and i3 Pro will be available from April 22 whereas the flagship i7 is slated to hit the market sometime in May. All these phones are priced between Rs. 7,990 and Rs. 14,990.
