1.RBI identifies 12 mega defaulters for insolvency, their total NPA Rs 175,000 cr :-

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is moving to resolve the bad loan crisis with an Internal Advisory Committee (IAC) of the RBI having identified 12 accounts of corporate borrowers who owe over Rs 5,000 crore each — and overall involve an amount of close to Rs 175,000 crore — for insolvency proceedings under the newly enacted Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016 (IBC).

 

2.Verizon takes over Yahoo to complete $4.5 billion deal :-

Verizon has taken over Yahoo, completing a $4.5 billion deal that will usher in a new management team to attempt to wring more advertising revenue from one of the internet’s best—known brands.

Tuesday’s closure of the sale ends Yahoo’s 21-year history as a publicly traded company.

It also ends the nearly five-year reign of Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who isn’t joining Verizon. She will walk away from Yahoo with a compensation package currently worth about $127 million, including her severance pay and stock awards that will be fully vested with the deal’s completion.

 

3.France and Britain announce anti-terror action plan, to check ‘radicalisation through social media’ :-

The leaders of France and Britain today announced an anti-terror action plan to crack down on radicalisation through social media.

After talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron said both countries agreed that social networks were not doing enough to stamp out terror propaganda.

Speaking after terror attacks in Manchester and London, Macron said the two countries had worked on a “very concrete” action plan.

 

4.Jitu Rai, Heena Sidhu win gold at ISSF Shooting World Cup :-

Indian shooting pair of Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu outclassed their Russian counterparts by 7-6 in the mixed team air pistol final event to win a gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Azerbaijan.

Russia was given the consolidating silver medal, while France bagged bronze after beating Iran by 7-6 in the third-place match.

 

5.Uber CEO Kalanick to take leave of absence :-

Uber Technologies Inc’s embattled Chief Executive Travis Kalanick told employees in an email on Tuesday that he will take time away from the company he helped to found, citing the need to grieve for his recently deceased mother, according to a copy of the memo seen by Reuters.

 

6.England hold upper hand against shaky Pakistan :-

In the first semi-final between England and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy, it would be fair to think the home side hold the upper hand while Pakistan would once again look to stutter over the winning line.

Both of Pakistan’s wins – against South Africa and Sri Lanka – have not been comprehensive in any way shape or form.

On the other hand, England won all three of their group games against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia.

 

7.Veteran Telugu poet, writer C Narayana Reddy passes away :-

Legendary Telugu poet and writer C Narayana Reddy, a recipient of the prestigious Jnanpith award, passed away in Hyderabad.

The 85-year-old doyen of Telugu language had to his credit more than 80 publications, which include poems, songs, lyrical dramas, ballets, essays, travelogues and ghazals.

British Prime Minister Theresa May neared a deal with a Northern Irish Protestant party to save her premiership on Tuesday as she came under intense pressure to soften her approach to Brexit days before the start of formal EU divorce talks.

 

9.Australia reaches settlement with suing asylum seekers :-

 

The Australian government reached a settlement on Wednesday with more than 1,900 asylum seekers who sued over their treatment at an immigration camp in Papua New Guinea.

Australia refuses to resettle asylum seekers who arrive by boat and pays the impoverished Pacific island nationals of Papua New Guinea and Nauru to keep hundreds of them from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

 

10.Saina beats Ratchanok to enter second round of Indonesia Open :-

Three-time champion Saina Nehwal edged out Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in a thrilling opening round to make a rousing start to her campaign at the Indonesia Super Series Premier in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Saina, who has slipped out of the World top-10 for the first time in seven years, rallied her way to a 17-21 21-18 21-12 win over the eighth seeded Thai player, who is a former world champion.

Saina, who had a 7-5 head-to-head record against Ratchanok, will face another Thai player Nitchaon Jindapol in the next round and is likely to clash with World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying in the quarters.
