1.Goa First Har Ghar Jal State and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu First Union Territory of the country

Goa has become the first state in the country to have Har Ghar water certified . Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have also become the first Union Territories in the country to become water certified . All the villages in this state and union territory have declared themselves as Har Ghar Jal Gram through a resolution passed by the Gram Sabha. All two lakh 63 thousand rural households of Goa and more than 85 thousand families of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are now getting clean and safe drinking water through taps. Jal Jeevan Mission is the flagship scheme of the Central Government, in which the target has been kept to supply water through taps to all rural households of the country by 2024.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that ethics, economy, ecology and environment are the four important pillars of the country. Shri Gadkari said this at the inauguration of India’s first E-Double Decker AC Bus in Mumbai . The bus has been manufactured by Switch Mobility Limited , a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland . It is known as Switch Electric Vehicle-22 . The bus is equipped with latest technology, state-of-the-art design, comfortable and high safety equipment.

3.PM Narendra Modi calls for taking ‘Panch Prana’ for a developed nation

4.External Affairs Minister inaugurates ‘Indian Embassy Residential Complex’ in Bangkok

External Affairs Minister of India inaugurated the ‘ Indian Embassy Residential Complex ‘ along with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand in Bangkok on August 17, 2022 . Foreign Minister India-Thailand’s Ninth Joint Commission‘ is on a visit to Thailand to attend the meeting. Earlier, he also met the Prime Minister of Thailand and conveyed his best wishes. External Affairs Minister also visited M.Rald Buddha Temple in Bangkok. The ninth meeting of the India and Thailand Joint Commission also concluded in Bangkok on 17 August. The meeting was jointly chaired by the Foreign Minister of India and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand. In this meeting, discussions were held to further strengthen all bilateral ties. The two sides also discussed enhancing ties and cooperation in ASEAN and BIMSTEC in areas such as political, economic, security as well as defence, connectivity and health. During this, India and Thailand also shared views on the Indo-Pacific plan.

5.Government will ban import of thermal coal from next year

Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that the government will stop importing thermal coal till next year.Will do it Inaugurating a workshop on Coking Coal Strategy for the Indian Steel Sector in New Delhi, Shri Joshi said that the Coal Ministry has a target of 90 crore tonnes of coal this year and Coal India Limited has been given a target of 700 crore tonnes of coal production. . Shri Joshi said that by 2030, India’s coal requirement will reach one billion and fifty crore tonnes. He said that the Indian economy is growing rapidly and there has been a record generation of coal based power. The Coal Minister said that the production of coal in the country has increased by 22 percent and the production of coking coal has increased by 15 percent. Shri Joshi has said that under Mission Coking Coal production will improve and the country will move towards becoming self-reliant in the production of coking coal.

6.In Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has issued a notification for the amendment of voter lists.

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir , the Election Commission has issued a notification for the amendment of voter lists on October 1, 2022, taking Aadhaar . J&K Chief Electoral Officer Hirdesh KumarSaid that those who are going to be 18 years old on or before October 1, 2022, there is a better opportunity for them to get their name included in the voter list of Jammu and Kashmir. The final voter lists will be published on 25 November 2022. Shri Hirdesh Kumar informed that at present the process of pre-revision of voter lists and delimitation work is going on. The existing voter lists are being linked with the newly identified assembly seats. Employees, student laborers or non-local people residing in the Union Territory, who are living in the state, can get their names entered in the voter list. Mr. Kumar has said that these people can vote. Those who were not listed as voters in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, Now they can vote. Apart from this, ordinary citizens can also enroll their names in the voter list as per the provisions of the Representation of the People Act. Many residents of J&K, serving in the Armed Forces and Para Military Forces and posted outside the State, have the option of getting themselves registered as Service Voters and can avail the facility of Postal Ballot.

7.Supreme Court orders status quo to be maintained by giving interim relief to Indian Olympic Association

9.Civil Aviation Ministry’s UDAN scheme completes 5 years of success

Regional connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) , a flagship program of the Ministry of Civil Aviation , has completed 5 years of its success. Its first flight was launched by the Prime Minister on 27 April 2017 . The scheme “ Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik ” was launched with improved aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in Tier II and Tier III cities.It was conceived on 21st October, 2016 with the aim of fulfilling the aspirations of the common citizens. UDAN has significantly increased regional air connectivity in the country in the last five years. The number of operational airports in 2014 was 74. Due to the UDAN scheme, this number has increased to 141 so far. Under the UDAN scheme, 68 underserved destinations including 58 airports, 8 heliports and 2 water aerodromes have been connected. UDAN has provided air connectivity to more than 29 States/UTs across the country with 425 new routes launched under the scheme. More than one crore passengers have availed this scheme till 4th August 2022. The scheme has provided the much needed platform to the regional carriers to scale up their operations.

10.Visit of Chief of Royal Malaysian Navy to India

Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza bin Mohamed Sani , Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy at the invitation of Admiral R Hari Kumar , Chief of the Indian NavyHe is on an official visit to India from 16 to 19 August 2022. Admiral Mohamed Reza met Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and discussed the progress of bilateral relations in the maritime domain. He was also briefed about the wide range of foreign cooperation activities being pursued by the Indian Navy. The two military leaders identified a number of new avenues to further strengthen bilateral naval cooperation and also expressed their commitment to their support for upholding the principle of collective responsibility for maritime security in the Indian Ocean region. Admiral Mohammad Reza is a proud alumnus of INS Dronacharya, the premier Gunnery Training Establishment of the Indian Navy in Kochi, From where he graduated in 1990 as an artillery specialist. The two navies have recently concluded the bilateral exercise Samudra Laxman on 22 May and Navy to Naval Staff Talks in June 22. Malaysian Navy Ship KD Lekiu and a high level delegation had earlier participated in ‘Milan’ organized by the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam on 22 February.

11.India handed over Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to Sri Lankan Navy

India gifted Sri Lanka a Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft that will enable the island nation to tackle a range of challenges such as human and drug trafficking and other organized crimes in its waters. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe was also present at the ceremony. The celebrations took place at a time when India is celebrating its 76th Independence Day. Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of the Indian Navy, along with Indian High Commissioner to Colombo Gopal Baglay handed over a maritime reconnaissance aircraft to the Sri Lankan Navy at a base of Sri Lanka Air Force at Katunayake near Colombo International Airport.

13.First 3-D printed human cornea developed in Hyderabad

For the first time in India, researchers from the city of Hyderabad have successfully 3D printed an artificial cornea and implanted it in a rabbit ‘s eye. LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) , Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IITH) , and Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB)Researchers from the U.S. have collaborated to develop a 3D-printed cornea from human donor corneal tissue. Scientists from LVPEI, IITH and CCMB created a biomimetic hydrogel by extracting decellularized corneal tissue and stem cells from the human eye. 3D printed cornea was made from this hydrogel. Scientists say that this 3D printed cornea is made from the corneal tissue of the human eye, so it is completely biocompatible and natural.

14.SBI opens first branch dedicated to startups in Bengaluru

State Bank of India (SBI) has opened its first branch exclusively dedicated for startups in Bengaluru . According to SBI, the branch at Koramangala, Bengaluru will provide financial support to entrepreneurs in the initial stage of setting up startup companies till they are listed on the stock exchanges. Inaugurating the ‘SBI Startup Branch’, the bank said that this facility is under an agreement between the Karnataka government and SBI to further boost the startup ecosystem of the state. The bank said that Karnataka is considered a very favorable state for startup companies. It is the first bank branch to get funding to support startup development in the country. It will provide all facilities to the entrepreneurs to make their dreams come true.

15.Karnataka Bank unveils new fixed deposit scheme

16.India now preparing to mix 20 percent ethanol in petrol

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that from April next year, 20 percent ethanol blending at select petrol pumps in the country.With this the supply of petrol will start. Its supply will be further increased to reduce dependence on imports and address environmental issues. He said that by the year 2025, there will be 20 percent ethanol in petrol. Hardeep Singh Puri said that E-20 petrol (20 percent ethanol mixture in petrol) will be available in some places from April 2023. Rest of the places will be covered by 2025. The government has set a target of 20 percent ethanol blending by 2025-26 under the revised target under the National Bio-fuel Policy. The target of 10 per cent ethanol blending in petrol has been achieved well in advance. This target was to be completed by November 2022, but it has been completed five months back in June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the second generation ethanol plant to the nation on the occasion of World Bio-fuel Day.
