1.India will become the chair of the G-20 group from December 1st, there will be a summit in Jammu and Kashmir in 2023

The meeting of the G20 , an influential grouping of the world’s major economies, will be held in Jammu and Kashmir next year . For this a five-member high-level committee has been constituted. Jammu and Kashmir will host the G20 summit in 2023 . Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed India’s Sherpa for the G20 in September last year. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that India will preside over the G20 from December 1, 2022 and will organize the G20 leaders’ summit for the first time in the year 2023. India’s representation at the G20 summit has been led by Prime Minister Modi since 2014. in G20 countriesArgentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom .

2.Senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka has been appointed as the Director of Intelligence and Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog.

Senior Indian Police Service officer Tapan Kumar Deka has been appointed as the Director of Intelligence Bureau . Shri Deka, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, is presently serving as the Special Director of Intelligence Bureau. His term will be of two years. The tenure of research and analysis wing secretary Samant Goel has been extended by one year. Retired IAS Parameswaran Iyer , the officer and former drinking water and sanitation secretary , has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of NITI Aayog . Mr. Iyer will succeed Amitabh Kant who is completing his term on 30th of this month.

3.Short Range Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Missile Successfully Tested

Defense Research and Development Organization – DRDO and Indian Navy successfully test -fired Short Range Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Missile . The flight test was conducted from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range off the Odisha coast. This test was done on Friday 24 June from the Indian Naval Ship. VL-SRSAM is an onboard weapon system that can neutralize limited-range aerial threats, including sea-skimming targets.

4.President Kovind inaugurates AYUSH Health Center at President’s Estate, Delhi

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated an AYUSH health center equipped with modern facilities at the President’s Estate in New Delhi . AYUSH Wellness Center (AWC) was started at President’s Estate on 25 July 2015 as a joint initiative of Ministry of AYUSH and President’s Secretariat. Speaking on the occasion, Union AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that AYUSH systems of medicine have been used traditionally for health. He said that AYUSH treatment from AYUSH health centers with modern facilities would continue to reach the people uninterrupted.

5.National Conference on Development of Space Startup Ecosystem in India Inaugurated in Bengaluru

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Chandrashekhar inaugurated the National Conference on Development of Space Startup Ecosystem in India in Bengaluru . It is organized by Astronautical Society of India in association with Indian Space Research Organization-ISRO , New Space India Limited , Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center and Defense Research and Development Organization-DRDO .

6.European Parliament overwhelmingly supports proposal to grant EU member status to Ukraine and Moldova

The European Parliament has overwhelmingly supported the proposal to grant EU member status to Ukraine and Moldova . The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, made this announcement after discussions with the leaders of the 27 member countries of the European Union. 529 votes were cast in support of the motion and 45 against, while 14 members did not participate in the voting. The European Parliament also approved the membership of Georgia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this is a historic moment in the relations between Ukraine and the European Union and the future of Ukraine lies in the EU. The European Council comprises all 27 EU heads of state and will make the final decision on Ukraine’s membership.

7.Kerala government will start medical insurance scheme-Medicep from July 1

The Kerala government will launch a medical insurance scheme-Medicep for state government employees, pensioners and eligible family members from July 1 . Under this scheme, cashless medical assistance up to Rs.3 lakh per year will be provided. For the policy term from the year 2022 to 2024, the annual premium will be four thousand eight hundred rupees and 18 percent GST will have to be paid thereon. For this, a monthly premium of Rs 500 will be deducted from the salary of June and pension after July. An order in this regard has been issued by the state finance department.

8.Coursera Global Skills Report 2022: India ranked 68th

The Global Skills Report (GSR) 2022 by Coursera states that India’s proficiency in data science has fallen from 38% in 2021 to 26% in 2022, leading to a drop of 12 ranks. In terms of overall skilling proficiency , India ranks 68th globally and 19th in Asia.The place has slipped down 4 places. However, the report shows that India has improved its technology proficiency level from 38 per cent to 46 per cent, improving its position by six places. The report is based on data collected from over 100 million Coursera users from over 100 countries who learned a new skill over the past year. The report benchmarks business, technology and data science, three of the most in-demand skill sectors driving jobs in the digital economy. West Bengal is at the forefront of Indian states in terms of skilling skills and the state is showing the highest level of digital skilling proficiency in the country. Andhra Pradesh is one of the top three performing states with high proficiency in business and technology skills. for the second consecutive year,Switzerland had the most skilled learners, followed by Denmark, Indonesia and Belgium.

9.World Bank approves project to promote rainfed farming in Uttarakhand

The World Bank has approved a Rs 1,000 crore project to take rainfed farming to new heights in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand . Uttarakhand Climate Responsive Rain-fed Farming Project will be implemented by the Watershed Department. The state government had proposed the project which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for funding by the World Bank. The project will be financed by the World Bank. Additionally, it will encourage eco-friendly agricultural practices so that youth and farmers have an economically viable option.

10.NDB appoints DJ Pandian as Director General of Regional Office in India

The New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS countries has appointed former bureaucrat Dr D J Pandian as the Director General of its regional office in Gujarat International Finance Tec City (GIFT City) , India. Last month, the NDB announced plans to set up a regional office in GIFT City. Pandian was previously the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), in which India is the largest shareholder after China.

14.Freyo partners with Equitas Small Finance Bank to launch digital savings account

Bengaluru -based neobanking platform Freyo , in partnership with Equitas Small Finance Bank , launched its digital savings account ‘FreeSave’ With this launch, it has become the first consumer Neobank in the country to offer full-stack neo-banking products including smart savings account, credit and payment products, cards and wealth-development products. Neobank is planning to open one million new accounts in the next ten months.

15.South Indian Bank launches “SIB TF Online” EXIM trade portal

South Indian Bank has launched a new portal named ‘ SIB TF Online ‘ for its Corporate EXIM customers . The portal facilitates a platform for business related payments to foreign entities remotely. Customer can initiate payment request on SIB TF Online after uploading relevant supporting documents for the transaction.

Karnataka Bank has launched the facility of online Savings Bank (SB) account opening through ‘ Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) ‘. The enabled facility in the Bank’s corporate website empowers the prospective customers to open an SB account through an online process and complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification through a video call at the place of their convenience.

17.Union Minister inaugurates Seismology Observatory in Udhampur

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh officially inaugurated the Seismological Observatory in Dandayal neighborhood of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir . The Ministry of Earth Sciences spent Rs 20 lakh to set up the third such center in Jammu and Kashmir. The observatory will compile comprehensive seismic records of Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and many other districts. According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, the central government plans to open 152 earthquake observatories in the next four months, of which three more are in the Kashmir division. To enhance real-time data collection and monitoring, 100 additional such seismic stations will be opened across the country in the next five years.

18.Ookla Speedtest Global Index: India ranks 115th

The Speedtest Global Index released by network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla showed that India recorded an average mobile download speed of 14.28 Mbps for May 2022 , slightly better than 14.19 Mbps in April 2022. With this the country is now up three places in its global ranking and is at 115th position . According to network intelligence and connectivity leader Ookla, India has improved its global ranking for overall fixed average download speed from 76th in April to 75th in May. In April, India dropped four places globally in terms of overall average fixed broadband speed from 72nd to 76th.

19.Oracle introduces ‘OCI Dedicated Areas’

US-based technology major Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) , Oracle ‘s cloud services platform, has launched an ‘ OCI Dedicated Zone ‘ for the Indian market .‘ is introduced. The new offering will help customers meet latency, data residence and data sovereignty requirements that are critical to many IT modernization efforts. It will also allow Oracle to provide customers with about 100 services on their premises, previously available only to public cloud consumers. According to the company, the OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) dedicated sector requires an average of 60-75 percent less data center space and power, with a significantly lower entry price of about $1 million per year for a typical customer. It will also help boost the adoption of the public cloud in the public sector, banking and other sectors that were so far restricted to do so due to regulatory and other requirements.

20.Ukraine inflicts serious damage to Russian army in airstrikes on ‘Snake Island’

Ukraine has inflicted serious damage on Russian forces in air strikes on a land island in the Black Sea , also known as ‘ Snake Island ‘ . The attack on the island is believed to be the second major military success by the West using missiles delivered to Ukraine. Land Island, also known as Snake or Serpent Island, is a small piece of rock less than 700 meters in size, described as X-shaped. It is 35 km from the coast in the Black Sea. It is located far east of the mouth of the Danube and approximately south-west of the port city of Odessa. The Danube is the second longest river in Europe after the Volga. It rises from the Black Forest mountains of western Germany and covers a distance of about 2,850 km. It flows till its mouth on the Black Sea.

India’s fast bowling all-rounder Rumeli Dhar has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 38 . Dhar played her last international match in the tri-nation women’s T20I series between India, Australia and England in Brabourne in 2018. Overall, he featured in four Tests, 78 ODIs and 18 T20Is, scoring 1328 runs and taking 84 wickets across all formats. She was also part of the Indian team that reached the 2005 World Cup final in South Africa.
