1. India to organize Defense Ministers Conference on Indian Ocean coast

India will host the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) on 04 February 2021 during Aero India 2021 – Asia’s largest aero show to be held in Bengaluru from 3 to 5 February 2021 . The broad theme of the conference will be ‘Enhancing Peace, Security and Cooperation in the Indian Ocean’. The event will begin with the welcome address of the Defense Secretary and the address of Defense Ministers of various countries of the Indian Ocean Region. Defense Minister Shri Rajnath SinghDuring this, we will give a concluding speech. Total including Defense Ministers of four countries (Maldives, Comoros, Iran and Medagascar), Razdans / High Commissioners of six countries (Australia, Kenya, Seychelles, Mauritius, Kuwait and Myanmar), Sudan’s Defense Secretary and Army Chiefs of 10 countries as of 30 January 2021. Participation in the conference has been confirmed from 18 countries. In addition, six countries are either participating directly or sending their recorded messages.

For preservation of over 210 species of trees found in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand , the ‘ Shivalik Arboretum ‘ (Botanical Collection)The first botanical garden of this type named ‘has been inaugurated. The Shivalik Arboritum aims to spread nature education among people so that they can feel emotional connected with trees, and make them more active towards conservation. The facility provides scientific information about particular species, cultural significance, medicinal uses, source country, type of habitat such as where it is found and all possible uses, including wood, dyes or any other strange uses. Some of the trees preserved include Kaphal (Myrica esculenta), Burans, (Rhododendron araboritum), Tejapat (Cinnamomum tamala) and Sanjeevani (Selaginella brahaptarsis).

  1. World’s first commercial booster powered by biofuels launched

US-based rocket startup company ‘ Blueshift Aerospace ‘ has launched the world’s first commercial booster powered by biofuels . This booster (rocket) named ‘ Stardust 1.0 ‘ is about 20 feet long and has a mass of about 250 kg. This rocket can carry a maximum payload of 8 kg. According to the company, the biofuel used in the operation of this rocket is non-toxic and completely carbon-neutral, so that it will not adversely affect nature. These rockets will help launch smaller satellites called CubeSets into space, which is relatively cheaper than conventional rockets and less toxic to the environment.

  1. New production plant inaugurated at HAL

India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated a new plant for the production of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) . The plant was inaugurated at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bangalore . The plant will double the production of India’s indigenous fighter jet LCA Tejas . Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has received orders worth Rs 48,000 crore from the armed forces. This is going to be the largest indigenous defense procurement that will give a boost to the Indian aerospace sector. The Defense Minister also informed that India will reach its target of Rs 75 lakh crore in the defense manufacturing sector.

  1. Aero India 2021: Asia’s largest air show begins in Bengaluru

Asia’s largest air show ‘ Aero India 2021 ‘ has started in Bengaluru . Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the three-day Mega Aero India show to be held in hybrid mode . 13th edition of Aero India showParticipants will take part in both real and virtual modes. This air show is dedicated to show India’s progress in defense production, the event will showcase indigenous platforms in the defense sector. On this occasion, more than 200 MoUs will be signed between various procurement and construction agencies. Along with this, for the first time, the Defense Ministers of 27 countries of the Indian Ocean Region will participate in a conference to discuss common hazards and cooperation in disaster management. In addition, a conference of Allied Air Force Chiefs will also be held to share views on the impact of technological progress on air warfare.

A program has been launched by the Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Kerala for the first time in India to train tiger cubs to hunt naturally in the forest environment . This sanctuary / reserve is located in Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts (located in the southern region of the Western Ghats) in the state of Kerala. It was designated as a sanctuary in the year 1950 and a tiger reserve in the year 1978. The name of this sanctuary is inspired by the river Periyar, whose origin is within this sanctuary.

In West Bengal , the Forest Department has conducted a census of water birds for the first time . It was organized from January 12 to February 2 in 54 different places of the state. It consisted of more than eight hundred people including forest workers, NGOs and bird lovers.

Students of the engineering college in Hubli , Karnataka have created ‘ Maya ‘, a robot that is programmed to speak in banks and many regional languages. The students of the Automation and Robotics Department of KLE Technological University have spent about eight months and Rs 5 lakh to develop the robot. It was developed keeping in mind the banking sectors and was programmed for all banking activities such as advising customers to open accounts, sending them to designated counters for queries. With the help of artificial intelligence, it recognizes customers’ faces and gives them feedback using chatbots. After banking time, it automatically goes to the docking yard and charges its battery without any human help.
