1 Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned due to health reasons

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar  has   resigned  from his post  citing  health reasons . In a letter to President Draupadi Murmu  , Mr Dhankhar said that in order to prioritise healthcare and follow medical advice, he has resigned from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect. He expressed his gratitude to the President for her unwavering support during his tenure.

2 “Meri Panchayat” app achieves major milestone at global level; wins WSIS Champion Award 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland

One of its kind mobile application “ Meri Panchayat ”   has received international recognition with  the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2025 Champion Award  under  the Action Line Category: Cultural Diversity and Identity, Linguistic Diversity and Local Content. The honour was conferred during the WSIS+20 High Level Event 2025   organized by  International Telecommunication Union (ITU)  under  the WSIS initiative . As a WSIS Prize 2025 Champion Project, Meri Panchayat symbolizes the global excellence of India’s digital governance model.  Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh aka Lallan Singh  was formally awarded the WSIS Champion Certificate  at a ceremony held in  New Delhi .

3 On the first day of the monsoon session, the ‘Bills of Lading 2025’ bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha

 On the first day of  the monsoon session , the Rajya Sabha  passed the  Bills of Lading (Amendment) Bill 2025 ).  The Bill, introduced in the Upper House  by  Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal , is  a watershed moment for India’s maritime sector  . The Bill, which has  already been passed by the Lok Sabha , now  awaits the President’s assent   to become law . Once enacted, it will establish a modern, simplified and globally aligned legal framework   for   maritime shipping documentation in India, replacing the 169-year-old  colonial-era  Indian Carriage of Goods Act 1856.  A bill of lading is a document issued by  a  carrier to a consignee. It  contains details of the goods  being carried,  including the type, quantity, condition and destination .

4 Assam government launched milk subsidy scheme to promote dairy industry in the state

Assam  Chief Minister  Himanta Biswa Sarma  launched  a new scheme at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra   in   Guwahati to  increase the self-reliance of  dairy farmers and  bring white revolution in the state. Under this,  about twenty thousand farmers associated with   601 dairy cooperatives of the state will get assistance of Rs 5 per liter on up to 30 liters of milk per day . This assistance will be for farmers providing milk to organized dairy processing projects. A provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for this scheme in the financial year 2025-26. Mr Sarma said that the daily milk production of Assam is about 29 lakh liters; however, only 1 lakh liters of which is processed.

Deepak Bagla  has officially  assumed charge as Mission Director   of  Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) . Mr. Bagla joins AIM with extensive experience in banking, investment promotion, policy consulting and institutional leadership. He brings experience across multilateral institutions, the private sector and government, bringing a unique blend of strategic insight and operational execution to this role. Prior to this, Mr. Bagla served as Managing Director and CEO of Invest India, the national investment promotion and facilitation agency of the Government of India.

6 National Cyber Security Exercise-India NCX 2025 launched: India’s cyber capability will be boosted through proactive capacity building

The National Cyber Security Exercise – India NCX 2025  was officially inaugurated   by  Deputy National Security Advisor Shri T.V. Ravichandran  in the presence of  Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor, National Defence University . The exercise is being conducted by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in collaboration with the National Defence University (RRU)  . The exercise marks a major step forward in India’s cyber security posture with the overarching theme: ” Enhancing Operational Preparedness of Indian Cyberspace “. It is notable that India NCX 2025 provides a platform for cyber security professionals, policy makers, defence personnel and industry leaders from across the country to gain a two-week experience designed to simulate real-world cyber events.

7 Youth Spiritual Summit concludes in Varanasi with the launch of Kashi Sankalp

 The Youth Spiritual Summit on the theme  Drug-Free Youth for Developing India   concluded with the formal adoption of  the Kashi Sankalp  at   Rudraksh  International Convention Centre, Varanasi . Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports  , the summit was attended by  over 600 youth leaders, representatives of over 120 spiritual and socio-cultural organisations ,  academicians and field experts. The event  marked a defining moment in India’s journey towards a drug-free society by 2047 .

8 EU imposes sanctions on Indian Rosneft refinery

For the first time ,  the 27-member European Union (EU)  has  imposed sanctions on  Indian oil refinery Nayara Energy Ltd,   owned by  Russian company Rosneft, located in  Vadinar   ,  Gujarat  , in an effort to undermine  the Russian economy  and  its war efforts in Ukraine. The EU has also announced a lower price cap on Russian oil prices as part of its 18th package of sanctions on Russia since  Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine  on February 24, 2022.  India, which is the second-largest importer of Russian crude oil in the world after China, is expected to benefit from lower Russian oil prices, but its exports of petroleum products to the EU may face risks. The United Kingdom, which is not a member of the EU, has said it will also impose sanctions on Russia.

9 Bhopal division developed train monitoring software

Bhopal Railway Division  of   Madhya  Pradesh,  which comes under  West Central Railway,  has developed a modern software called Speedo Vision , which is capable of preparing  operational reports in a few minutes by doing  fast, accurate and automatic analysis of locomotive speedometer data   . This is considered an important technological initiative towards ensuring passenger safety, transparency in operations and accountability in the functioning of the loco pilot. This software has been developed in one month by the in-house efforts of the division. It processes the Excel file of data obtained from the locomotive speedometer in seconds and prepares a graphical report, which includes important information like date, time, speed, distance, braking pattern, overspeed, and brake power test. This analysis is completely automatic and error-free, which saves a lot of time and resources compared to the earlier manual process.

10 Bihar became the first state in the country to have less than 1200 voters at all polling stations

Bihar  became  the first state in the country  to have less than 1,200 voters at all polling stations (PS)  . 12,817 new polling stations were added in Bihar to prevent long queues at polling stations. According to the Bihar Voter List Revision (SIR) order dated June 24 (page 2, point 6/7 and page 7, point 2 (a)), the earlier maximum limit of 1,500 voters per polling station has now been reduced to 1,200 voters per polling station. After adding 12,817 new polling stations, the total number of polling stations in the state will increase from 77,895 to 90,712. This major achievement of Bihar is to be emulated by other states and union territories.

11 Navy’s anti-submarine craft ‘Ajay’ launched

The Indian Navy will soon include   another  anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft ‘Ajay’  . ‘Ajay’ was launched on Monday. The project was launched on 21 July at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) shipyard  in  Kolkata  . ‘Ajay’ is going to be a state-of-the-art ship of the Indian Navy. The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors like hull mounted sonar and low frequency variable depth sonar. Its firepower includes advanced torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, NSG-30 guns and 12.7 mm SRCG guns. The ship is powered by diesel engines and runs on water jets. It has been indigenously designed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. The first ship of this class ‘ Arnala ‘ was inducted into the Navy on 18 June 2025, while the delivery of the second ship is proposed in August 2025. This warship will enhance the Indian Navy’s underwater surveillance, anti-submarine warfare capabilities and sea mine laying capabilities.

12 Operational guidelines of SASCI scheme for development of tourist centres in the country released

The Ministry of Tourism has issued operational guidelines for the scheme named   ‘ Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment-Development of Globally Iconic Tourist Centres ‘ ( SASCI ). The main features of the scheme include development of holistic tourist experience, providing financial assistance to selected proposals, strengthening all points of the tourist value chain,  use of quality expertise for design and development, sustainable operation and conservation etc. Its objective is to comprehensively develop iconic tourist centres in the country and brand and market them globally. This information was given by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

13 Koneru Humpy creates history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the semi-finals of the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup

Koneru Humpy  has  created history  by performing brilliantly and   reaching  the semi-finals in the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025. She is the first Indian woman player to reach the semi-finals of this tournament  . Humpy defeated China’s Song Yuchin in the quarter-finals in Georgia. Divya Deshmukh and Harika Dronavalli will face each other in the quarter-finals. The winner of this match will be in the semi-finals along with Koneru Humpy, China’s Lei Tingjie and Tan Zhongyi.  Vaishali Rameshbabu  lost  to China’s Tan Zhongyi  . Top seed Lei Tingjie has made it to the semi-finals by defeating Georgia’s Nana Zgnidze.

14 2025 India won 10 medals in Polyak Imre and Varga Janos wrestling competition

Indian wrestlers  ended  their   campaign at  the Polak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial 2025 wrestling competition with 10 medals: three gold, three silver and four bronze  . The fourth and final ranking wrestling event of the 2025 calendar year, Polak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial 2025, was held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, from 17 to 20 July 2025.  Indian wrestlers participated in the men’s and women’s freestyle events as well as the men’s Greco-Roman event. The first medal for India at the Budapest event was won by Sujeet Kalkal, who won the gold medal in the 65 kg men’s freestyle category. Rahul won the bronze medal in the 57 kg men’s freestyle on the first day of the competition. Women wrestlers won a total of six medals – two gold, two silver and two bronze – at the competition. Olympian Anant Panghal won the gold medal by defeating Russia’s Natalia Malysheva 7-4 in the 53 kg category final. Harshita won the gold medal for India in the 72 kg category. Neha Sangwan had to settle for the silver medal after losing to former Olympic champion Helen Maroulis of the USA in the final of the 57 kg category. In the 50 kg category, Neelam won the bronze medal by defeating Belarusian wrestler Xenia Stankevich. Priya Malik won the silver medal in the women’s 76 kg.  Sumit won the silver medal in the 60 kg Greco-Roman category .  He   was defeated 5-1 by European champion Nihat Mammadli of Azerbaijan in the final.  Anil Mor  won   the bronze medal  by defeating Ikhtiyor Botirov of Uzbekistan 7-4 in  the 55 kg Greco-Roman category .

15 PM Modi expressed grief over the demise of former Kerala CM VS Achuthanandan

Former  Kerala Chief Minister  and  senior Marxist leader VS Achuthanandan  died on Monday. He was 101 years old and was ill for a long time. Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan was fondly known as VS by the common people. He was the leader of the opposition from 2001 to 2006.   After   the  victory of the Left Democratic Front in 2006, he was the Chief Minister of Kerala till 2011. He  was the CM of Kerala from the year 2006 to 2011 .
