1 Wankhede Stadium to have a stand named after Ravi Shastri

On February 28th , it was announced that a stand will be named after Indian cricket legend and former head coach Ravi Shastri at Mumbai ‘s Wankhede Stadium . The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to name a stand at the historic Wankhede Stadium after Shastri. Shastri will now join the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. Ravi Shastri was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team. Ravi Shastri served as the head coach of the Indian cricket team from 2017 to 2021. Ravi has also captained the Mumbai team in domestic cricket. Three gates at the stadium will also be named after former Indian cricketers Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji. Edulji captained India in the 1978 and 1993 Women’s ODI World Cups. A significant reason for naming a stand after Shastri is the historic match at Wankhede, in which he hit six sixes in a single over against Baroda. Ravi was the first batsman to hit 6 sixes in a single over.
2 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth over Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over ₹2,700 crore in Puducherry . These include projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding civic amenities, promoting industrial progress, education, world-class healthcare, and sustainable growth. To strengthen higher education and healthcare in the region, PM Modi dedicated the APJ Abdul Kalam Engineering Block and Ganga Hostel at the National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, the modernization of the Regional Cancer Center at JIPMER, and new buildings and hostels at Pondicherry University. He dedicated the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Area to the nation. Furthermore, foundation stones were laid for various water supply projects aimed at improving water supply systems and ensuring clean and safe drinking water for the residents of the Puducherry region. The foundation stone was laid for construction of 41 rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, development of Heritage Town in Puducherry and mangrove conservation works under MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Income) scheme.
3 PM Modi inaugurates infrastructure projects worth over Rs 4,400 crore in Madurai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated to the nation several national projects worth over ₹4,400 crore in Madurai, Tamil Nadu . These projects include three new All India Radio FM relay transmitters in Kumbakonam, Yercaud, and Vellore . These transmitters will expand regional coverage, ensure uninterrupted FM transmission, and enhance the reach of public broadcasting services in several districts of the state. The Prime Minister said these projects will transform connectivity, boost the economy, create jobs, and improve the lives of millions.
4 Union Environment Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav welcomed 9 cheetahs from Botswana at Kuno National Park

On February 28, 2026, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupendra Yadav, released nine cheetahs (6 females and 3 males) acquired from Botswana into quarantine enclosures in Kuno National Park , Madhya Pradesh . These cheetahs will undergo acclimatization and health monitoring before being released into their natural environment. India now has a substantial population of 48 cheetahs, including 28 Indian-born cubs. In December 2024, the Government of India initiated formal negotiations with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to acquire cheetahs to further strengthen India’s flagship wildlife conservation program, ‘Project Cheetah.’ On February 27, 2026, the cheetahs were transported from Mokolodi Nature Reserve to Gaborone Airport. With the support of the Indian Air Force, the cheetahs were transported to Gwalior, India, in a controlled and monitored environment to ensure their safety and well-being during the journey. Upon arrival in India, the cheetahs were transferred by helicopter to Kuno National Park.
5 India Tribes Fest 2026 begins

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has announced a series of tribal heritage cultural celebrations from March 2 to 24 , including the Bharat Tribes Fest 2026. The Bharat Tribes Fest will include the Tribal Arts Festival, the Tribal Music Festival, the Bharat Tribes Festival, and the Tribal Business Summit. According to the Ministry, the purpose of celebrating tribal culture is to provide a platform for tribal brothers and sisters to share their skills, creativity, and knowledge of traditional tribal culture. According to the Ministry, the purpose of providing a platform to tribals is to empower them economically. During the announcement, Union Minister Oram also launched the official logos for the Tribal Arts Fest, Living Roots: Soundscapes of Tribal India, and Bharat Tribes Fest 2026 .

The Mobile World Congress is opening in Barcelona , Spain. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will represent India at the event. Mr. Scindia will also inaugurate the India Mobile Congress, which will highlight the country’s leading digital technology platform. 7 INSV Koundinya to be commissioned with flag hoisting ceremony at Mumbai Port

The Indian Naval Sailing Ship (INSV) Koundinya will be formally commissioned by Shri Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence , at a solemn ceremony held at the Mumbai Port on March 2, 2026. The commissioning ceremony marks the successful completion of the ship’s maiden overseas voyage to the Sultanate of Oman and her historic return voyage across the Arabian Sea , reaffirming India’s enduring maritime heritage and the strength of India-Oman relations in the Indian Ocean region. INSV Koundinya is a traditional, seamlessly constructed vessel , built in strict accordance with ancient Indian shipbuilding techniques . Its wooden planks are hand-stitched with coconut rope and sealed with natural resin. The ship symbolizes the revival of India’s centuries-old maritime craft tradition and reflects the nation’s commitment to rediscovering and preserving Indian knowledge systems. Inspired by a 5th century AD painting in the Ajanta Caves and built under the supervision of the Indian Navy in collaboration with traditional artisans, the ship is a powerful example of the harmony of traditional craftsmanship and modern naval engineering. INSV Kaundinya departed Porbandar for Muscat on 29 December 2025, following the sea routes used by Indian sailors since ancient times. It arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos on 14 January 2026, where it was formally welcomed in the presence of Omani dignitaries and members of the Indian expatriate community.
8 Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei dies

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US-Israeli attack on February 28th . The US and Israel launched a 30-missile attack on Khamenei’s office complex on Saturday. Khamenei’s daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, along with 40 commanders present at the complex, were also killed in the attack. Khamenei was holding a meeting with commanders at the time of the attack. Khamenei was Iran’s leader of the revolution, or Supreme Leader, who determined the country’s major programs, such as foreign policy and nuclear program. Iran’s state media agencies, Tasnim and Fars, confirmed the deaths on March 1st. A 40-day state mourning period and a seven-day holiday have been declared in Iran following Khamenei’s death. Ayatollah Alireza Arafi was appointed interim Supreme Leader the day after Khamenei’s death. 67-year-old Arafi is considered close to Ali Khamenei and has long played a key role in Iran’s religious-political system. Khamenei emerged as a strong leader in 1979. In 1981, he was attacked by a bomb during a press conference, permanently paralyzing his right hand. Khamenei also served as president from 1981 to 1989. It was during his tenure in 1981 that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein attacked Iran, leading to an eight-year war between the two countries.
