Australia defeated England by 7 wickets in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 to win the title for a record seventh time. Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield’s century partnership played a decisive role in Australia’s victory in the final played at Lord’s (London) on Sunday . Earlier, Australia has been champion in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023, while England won this title for the only time in 2009.
2 INS Sudarshini Joins US 250th Independence Day Celebrations
On July 5th , the Indian Navy ‘s sailing vessel INS Sudarshini participated in the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations. INS Sudarshini participated in the grand ” Parade of Sail ” held on the Hudson River in New York . As part of the ” Lokayan 2026 ” mission, the vessel reached New York after covering a distance of 13,000 nautical miles . The United States is celebrating its 250th Independence Day. The “United States International Naval Review 250” and “Sail 250” were held in New York to mark the occasion. The Indian Embassy in the United States shared this on social media. INS Sudarshini entered the Port of New York and New Jersey on July 4th. INS Sudarshini represents maritime diplomacy, international cooperation, and India-US defense relations. Ships from several countries around the world participated in this parade. INS Sudarshini provides naval cadets with training in maritime navigation, leadership, and cultural sailing. INS Sudarshini was commissioned into Goa Shipyard Limited in 2012.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released the official minutes of its meetings with civil society groups in Ladakh , revealing an important consensus. The Center has proposed a unique, customized self-governance model under Article 371 for the Union Territory of Ladakh . This draft agreement is a significant step toward resolving years of political deadlock, agitations, and lack of representation in the region. A “sui generis” model under Article 371: Instead of the Sixth Schedule, the Center will implement a customized, unique (sui generis) framework drawn from various provisions of Article 371 (similar to protections in Nagaland or Mizoram). This is intended to legally protect Ladakh’s tribal culture, land, and local employment. Ladakh will move away from being a completely bureaucratic-driven Union Territory. A democratic, Union Territory-level elected body will be established to provide political voice to the local population. This new elected body will not be merely advisory; It will be granted separate executive, financial, and legislative powers to govern local matters. Reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir (2019) : In August 2019, the abrogation of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 bifurcated the erstwhile state. Ladakh’s long-standing demand for a separate union territory ended, but it was designated as a union territory without a legislature.
A consortium comprising Microsoft , Singtel , Tata Communications , and Lightstorm has signed contracts to build the India-Southeast Asia (I-2SEA) submarine cable system to meet the growing demand for AI, cloud, and hyperscale connectivity in the India-Southeast Asia corridor. I-2SEA is a submarine cable system with carrier-neutral landing infrastructure, connecting India’s east coast with Malaysia and Singapore , connecting key AI and cloud infrastructure hubs in the region. The submarine cable is an undersea fiber-optic cable that carries a large volume of internet, telecommunications, and data traffic, forming the backbone of global digital connectivity. The system will have twin landing stations in Machilipatnam and South Chennai, India , providing the shortest undersea route from Machilipatnam to Hyderabad, and further connectivity to over 80 data centers, including Mumbai, via Lightstorm’s terrestrial network. The cable is designed to serve hyperscalers, GPU infrastructure providers, and enterprises running AI training and workloads, while enabling high-capacity, lowest-latency digital connectivity.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi Government has launched ‘ Mission Kayakalp ‘ with the aim of making the government schools of the capital not only centers of education but also safe, clean, modern and inspiring educational premises for the children . Under this special campaign, extensive improvement works are being carried out in selected government schools in various districts of the capital to strengthen the infrastructure and provide better facilities to the students. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Mission Kayakalp is being carried forward with the cooperation of the District Administration, Education Department, organizations providing support under Corporate Social Responsibility, various social organizations, market associations and the local community.
ICMR-MINDS , a National Health Research Priority Project – a flagship initiative of the Indian Council of Medical Research , has won the Gold Medal at the National e-Governance Awards 2026. The award was presented by Dr Jitendra Singh , Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that ICMR-MINDS is an implementation research study on integrating the screening and management of mental and substance use disorders with other non-communicable diseases.
India will chair the ninth session of the Intergovernmental Expert Group on Consumer Protection Law and Policy in Geneva, Switzerland . The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development has organised the session from 6th to 8th of this month . The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said that member countries, international organisations, consumer protection authorities, academia and other stakeholders will deliberate on issues related to consumer protection in the session. The Intergovernmental Expert Group is the premier intergovernmental forum for cooperation and dialogue on consumer protection law and policy. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs , will chair the session. Member countries will deliberate on consumer information and education, sustainable consumption and enforcement of consumer protection laws in global markets.
The Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department , Ministry of Law and Justice , Government of India, inaugurated the two-day ‘Reforms Utsav and Chintan Shivir 2026’ at the ‘ Gyan Sarovar ‘ of the Brahma Kumaris Headquarters in Mount Abu, Rajasthan . The event focused on the theme “Building a Future-Ready Legislative Ecosystem for a Developed India @ 2047”. The inaugural session was addressed by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Honorable Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice.
9 Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest Indian cricketer to debut
On July 4th , Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest cricketer to debut for India . He is playing his first international match against England at the age of 15 years and 99 days . He broke the records of women cricketers Shafali Verma and Sachin Tendulkar , who played their first match at the age of 15 years and 239 days , and Sachin Tendulkar at the age of 16 years and 205 days. The second match of the T20 series between India and England is being played at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. In December 2024, Vaibhav made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming one of the youngest Indian List A debutants. In 2026, Vaibhav played a key role in India’s victory in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2026. He was named Player of the Tournament in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2026.

The Global Passport Index 2026 rankings were released on July 5th . India ranks 125th in this ranking . In 2025, India was ranked 124th . The 10 countries in this ranking are mostly European and developed Asian countries. The top 10 include Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark (united), Ireland, the UK, Norway, and Singapore . The index ranks countries based on visa-free travel, investment opportunities, and living standards. The index is based on the strength of a passport and the visa-free access its holders receive. Indian citizens require a visa to travel to 88 destinations, including the US, UK, Germany, France, China, Andorra, and the UAE. The Global Passport Index considers factors such as global mobility (freedom to travel globally), investment opportunities, and living standards. This index is prepared on the basis of the strength of the passport and the visa-free access its holders get.
11 Padma Vibhushan Dr. Teejan Bai passes away
On July 4th , Padma Vibhushan Dr. Teejan Bai, who brought worldwide recognition to Chhattisgarh ‘s folk art and Pandavani singing, passed away. She was 70 years old. Teejan Bai was born in 1956 in Ganiyari village, near Bhilai , Chhattisgarh . She gave a new identity to Chhattisgarh ‘s traditional folk art, Pandavani. Pandavani is a folk art form in which stories from the Mahabharata are presented on stage through singing and acting. In recognition of her contributions to the country, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri in 1988. She was subsequently awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2003 and the country’s second-highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan , in 2019. She also received numerous other honors, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. She was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995 .
