1 World Food India inaugurated – 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described World Food India 2024 held in New Delhi as an important platform for talents in the field of global food industry, education and research . Where talented people from the global food industry, education and research will be able to take advantage of new opportunities by sharing their experiences with each other. This three-day mega event will run from 19 to 22 September 2024 and participants from more than 90 countries are participating in it. Describing Indian farmers as the backbone of the country’s food ecosystem, the Prime Minister said that India’s food traditions have developed due to their hard work. A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of more than 50 units under the PLI scheme and PMKSY schemes of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Along with this, credit-linked subsidy was provided to 25,000 PMFME beneficiaries and seed capital to 70,000 self-help groups. Under the Startup Grand Challenge, winners were awarded for promoting innovation in waste management, efficient use of water and innovative food processing technologies. A Global Food Regulatory Summit will be organised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in collaboration with World Food India on 20-21 September 2024.
2 The World Health Organization declared Jordan the first country in the world to be free of leprosy
The World Health Organisation has declared Jordan the world’s first country to be free of leprosy . This is a significant achievement in global public health efforts. Congratulating Jordan , WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that Jordan has not recorded any cases of leprosy for more than two decades. The announcement was made after an independent team was appointed to assess the situation.
3 Atishi will take oath as Chief Minister on September 21
Atishi will take oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on 21 September . The date has been fixed after the President’s approval on 19 September. Along with Atishi, other members of the cabinet will also take oath. On Wednesday, 18 September, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena sent Arvind Kejriwal ‘s resignation to President Draupadi Murmu for approval. Along with this, he has also sent a proposal to the President for the date of 21 September for the swearing-in of the new Chief Minister Atishi. Atishi currently holds important ministries like Education, Tourism, PWD, Culture, Women and Child Development . Earlier on 13 September, after getting bail from the Supreme Court in the liquor policy case , Kejriwal had announced to leave the post of Chief Minister on 15 September. The term of the Delhi Assembly is ending in February 2025. The Delhi government has only 5 months left for the elections.
4 Centre approves Rs 31,000 crore for fencing along Myanmar border
The central government on September 18 approved Rs 31,000 crore for fencing the Myanmar border . The 1,643 km long Myanmar border passes through the states of Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Nagaland (215 km), Manipur (398 km) and Mi Zoram (510 km). Nearly 10 km of fencing has already been completed near Moreh in Manipur. Fencing work is underway on 21 km of the border in other areas. The central government has already abolished the India-Myanmar Free Movement (FMR) system . FMR allowed people living close to the border to travel up to 16 km into each other’s territory without any documents. Myanmar is a country in South Asia. Its former name was Burma/Brahma or Brahmadesh. It is bordered by China to the north, India, Bangladesh and the Indian Ocean to the west, as well as Thailand and Laos to the southeast. Myanmar gained independence in January 1948. The official language here is Burmese. Its capital is Naypyidaw and the currency is Kyat.
5 A poem on ‘National War Memorial’ and a chapter on ‘Veer Abdul Hameed’ included in NCERT’s Class VI syllabus
In line with the vision of National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, a poem titled ‘ Rashtriya Yudh Smarak ‘ and a chapter titled ‘ Veer Abdul Hamid ‘ have been included in the NCERT curriculum for Class VI from this year. This initiative jointly taken by Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education aims to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty, courage and sacrifice among school children and to ensure youth participation in nation building. The poem ‘Rashtriya Yudh Smarak’ commemorates the spirit behind it. The chapter titled ‘Veer Abdul Hamid’ is in honour of the brave CQMH Abdul Hamid who sacrificed his life fighting for the country during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and was awarded the country’s highest gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra (posthumously) . It is noteworthy that on 25 February 2019 , Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the National War Memorial to the nation at the iconic Central Vista ‘C’ Hexagon, India Gate, New Delhi.
6 Indian Coast Guard signs MoU for marine conservation with The Habitats Trust and HCL Foundation in New Delhi
The Indian Coast Guard signed a Memorandum of Understanding for marine conservation with The Habitats Trust and HCL Foundation in New Delhi . The initiative aims to implement critical rescue efforts, including removing unidentified nets, mapping and classifying areas affected by unidentified gear, and prioritizing clean-up efforts. Under this MoU, surveys will be conducted in ecologically sensitive areas to monitor and protect marine biodiversity.
7 Indore Goverdhan Plant: A decisive step towards clean energy from waste
Indore , which is famous for its cleanliness. Indore Municipal Corporation has achieved another remarkable feat. The Goverdhan plant , which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 , is now producing around 17,000 kg of bio-CNG every day . This plant is Asia’s largest solid waste based plant . The plant is part of the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBARdhan) initiative, which was launched in 2018 under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). The initiative aims to convert organic waste – such as animal dung, crop residue, and kitchen waste – into renewable energy and organic manure. The environmental benefits of the Goverdhan plant are also quite significant. By converting organic waste into energy, this plant prevents about 130,000 tons of carbon dioxide from going into the atmosphere every year.
8 Joint Committee meeting on Waqf Amendment Bill was held in New Delhi, Lok Sabha MP Jagdambika Pal is the chairman of the committee
The Joint Committee on Waqf Amendment Bill met in New Delhi . This bill has been brought to remove the flaws and increase the efficiency of administration and management of Waqf properties . It also provides for ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims and broadening the structure of Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards. Lok Sabha MP Jagdambika Pal is the chairman of this committee. The committee has 21 members from Lok Sabha and ten from Rajya Sabha.
9 New Delhi: Fifth River Festival inaugurated at Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts
The fifth River Festival was inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts in New Delhi . The festival highlights various aspects of the river and its culture. The three-day event will feature a number of events, including a photo exhibition on the Kansavati river. These include boats and paintings by school students on the river. Dr. Sachidanand Joshi, member of the Center, said that the purpose of the River Festival is to promote public sentiment, enthusiasm, respect, values and faith towards rivers. One can attend the event from 10 am to 8 pm. Entry is free.

Indian Ferroalloys and Producers Association (IFAPA) hosted the 4th International Ferro Alloys Conference which saw the presence of 550 delegates with over 30 speakers across 10 insightful sessions. The event was graced by the presence of Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries Shri HD Kumaraswamy as the Chief Guest . IFAPA, the apex body of the domestic ferroalloy industry serves as a bridge between the industry and the policy establishment. Established in 1961, the body has around 85 members. It had a series of technical sessions on Steel and Stainless Steel, Ores and Alloys, Power, Coke and Technology, as well as Decarbonisation of Ferrous Metallurgy and Ferro Alloys Sector in India.
