Italy ‘s Yannick Sinner has won the men’s singles title at the Wimbledon tennis tournament . Top-seeded Sinner defeated second-seeded German Alexander Zverev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. This is Sinner’s second consecutive Wimbledon men’s singles title and fifth Grand Slam title. With this Wimbledon victory, Sinner completed his 100th career Grand Slam win. Sinner is the 10th player to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title in the Open Era. Sinner began his professional career in 2018. The women’s doubles title was won by Chinese and French pair Guo Hanyu and Kristina Mladenovic. In the final, the 10th-seeded pair defeated second-seeded Canadian-Brazilian pair Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani 6-3, 7-5.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) , in collaboration with the Drone Federation of India (DFI), launched the second edition of the National Innovation Challenge for Drone Applications and Research (NIDAR 2.0, 2026-27) under the SwaYaan initiative . The event was held in a hybrid mode at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi, with students, faculty, government representatives, and industry leaders from across the country participating in person and online. Approved in July 2022 with an outlay of approximately ₹90 crore, the initiative aims to build the skilled workforce needed for the drone sector in the country. The initiative challenges students to build smart drones powered by Indian-made chips . It offers prizes of over ₹65 lakh, along with startup incubation, cloud credits, software support, and internships for student teams. The first edition of NIDAR 2025-26 was launched in March 2025 . 3,448 students from 22 states, 4 union territories, and 109 cities participated and created autonomous drone solutions for disaster management and precision farming. Ninety-three teams advanced to the grand finale, with 24 winning prizes totaling ₹40 lakh. NIDAR 2.0 elevates the challenge further. It shifts focus from traditional airframes to autonomous systems, indigenous avionics, and key drone components. The challenge will run across two tracks. Track 1, Drone Innovation, tasks student teams with building fully autonomous swarm drones that can locate survivors and deliver medical supplies in disaster zones without an external communication network. It also challenges teams to develop a GPS-free drone that can navigate confined indoor spaces for industrial inspections. Track 2, Component Innovation, challenges teams to design an indigenous flight controller and autopilot based on VEGA processors using indigenous electronic components . Following technical evaluation, the top 100 teams will each receive two VEGA processor kits for development, testing, and integration. VEGA processors are a series of indigenous microprocessors based on the open-standard RISC-V architecture , designed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the Ministry’s Microprocessor Development Program .
The 63-km-long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway was inaugurated on July 13th . Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the expressway . Other national highway projects worth approximately ₹4,850 crore were also inaugurated in Lucknow. The expressway begins at Shaheed Path in Lucknow and runs through Unnao to Kanpur. The expressway has been developed parallel to the existing NH-27 , reducing traffic congestion on the old route. The total construction cost of the expressway is ₹4,700 crore. It is the first barrier-free tolling expressway in Uttar Pradesh .
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched the next phase of the nationwide ” Drug-Free Youth Development India ” campaign through My Youth India . Competitions will be held in three stages : district, state, and national . According to the Ministry, registration is open on the My India portal . District-level competitions will be held from July 24th to 27th. District-level winners will compete in a state-level selection process. State-level winners will be invited to New Delhi for the National Youth Summit on August 12th and 13th. My India will organize competitions in five creative categories: dance, music, reel and short films, street plays, and slam poetry . The competitions are open to youth aged 15 to 29 years. Youth can submit their works in Hindi, English, or any regional language.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully completed three major tests of the Gaganyaan crew module system . The first test was related to ensuring the crew module’s upright position after landing , considered one of the most critical requirements for crew safety. The second test tested the separation of the umbilical mechanism that serves as the link between the crew module, the astronaut cabin, and the power-providing service module . During return from space, the service module must separate from the crew module, as only the crew module carrying astronauts returns to Earth. ISRO checked that all wires and joints broke cleanly and without any glitches at the right time, just before re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The third test verified the structural integrity of the crew module during the apex cover separation event . The cabin experiences very high speeds during the mission, and large parachutes deploy to slow it down. These parachutes are safely enclosed within a robust cover on the cabin roof, the apex cover. This cover is supposed to be blown away just before the parachute opens. ISRO checked that the cabin would not be damaged when the cover was suddenly detached.
The Delhi government has officially renamed its flagship Mahila Samridhi Yojana (Women’s Prosperity Scheme ) as the ” Delhi Lakshmi Yojana .” Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to ensure the scheme’s effective and timely implementation . Under the scheme, eligible women aged 21 to 60 will be provided financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month .
On July 13 , the Indian Ministry of External Affairs declared a day of national mourning following the death of the former Emir of Qatar . In Qatar, the “Emir” is the supreme head of state and monarch, holding the most powerful position in Qatar. On July 12, Qatar’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani , passed away at the age of 74. He served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. During his tenure, Qatar experienced rapid economic and diplomatic growth. In 2013, Sheikh Hamad handed over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is currently the Emir of Qatar. Hamad established the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) , a national investment fund that now manages assets worth over $500 billion. During Hamad’s tenure, significant investment was generated in the country, leveraging Qatar’s vast natural gas and oil reserves.
8 West Bengal implemented two new laws
On July 13 , the West Bengal government enacted two new laws to crack down on organized crime, riots, and anti-social activities . West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi approved these laws on June 29. Their purpose is to strengthen law and order and take strict action against those who damage public and private property. Two new laws have been included in this Act:
1. West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Act 2026.
This Act has been enacted to control organized crime and anti-social activities. Under this Act, there is a provision for preventive detention of suspects for a maximum of 12 months . This Act also authorizes the seizure and confiscation of properties linked to organized crime. Many crimes have been classified as cognizable , meaning that the offender can be arrested without a warrant.
2. The West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Act, 2026.
This law ensures compensation for damage to public and private property caused by riots, arson, violence, or vandalism . The property of those responsible will be auctioned to recover the damage. Financial accountability will be imposed on those who damage public property.

These young physicists have made the country proud with their exceptional performance. The gold medalists are Kanishk Jain from Pune , Riddhesh Anant Bendle from Indore , Rishit Garg from New Delhi , Shresth Suraiya from Mumbai , and Swarit Joshi from Ahmedabad . India has jointly secured first place in the competition.

In women’s cricket, India created history by defeating England by 270 runs in the only Test against India at Lord’s in London . England started their second innings on the fourth day at 130 for six and were all out for 186. India had set a target of 457 runs for England. India declared their second innings at 341 for seven, taking a lead of 269 runs. Wicketkeeper and batsman Yastika Bhatia became the first woman cricketer to score a Test century at Lord’s . England were all out for 170 runs in the first innings.
