1.World Milk Day: 01 June

World Milk Day is observed on June 1 in order to celebrate the dairy sector and recognise the importance of milk as a global food.The day was founded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation.This year marks the 20th anniversary of World Milk Day.This year’s theme is “20th Anniversary of World Milk Day”.

2.Global Day of Parents: 01 June

The United Nations celebrates Global Day of Parents on 1st of June every year to honour all the parents throughout the world.The Global Day of Parents recognizes the primary responsibility of the family in nurturing and protecting their children.The day acknowledges the selfless commitment of all parents for their children including their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.The day was designated by the General Assembly in 2012 to honour all the parents throughout the world.

3.SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft docks at ISS after historic launch

SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft with two NASA astronauts successfully docked with the International Space Station after a historic launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.It was the first time a private company put a human into orbit.Elon Musk’s SpaceX company confirmed the successful docking of NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley with the ISS, the orbiting laboratory after traveling 19 hours.With the liftoff, SpaceX became the first private company to launch people into orbit, a feat achieved previously by only three governments the US, Russia and China.

4.Centre announces ‘Mudra Shishu loan’ for small businesses and cottage industries

Government has pledged to make an Atma Nirbhar Bharat. A 1500 crore interest subvention for small business and cottage industries has been announced under Mudra Shishu loan.Under this scheme, one lakh beneficiaries can avail interest benefit of 2 per cent for a year.A Rs 5000 crore package was announced for the roadside hawkers.Under this, 50 lakh street vendors can avail loan upto Rs 10,000.Street vendors can contact any nationalised bank to avail the benefit.

5.National “Artificial Intelligence Portal” of India launched

The National “Artificial Intelligence Portal” of India called “ai.gov.in” has been launched by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Law and Justice and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad.It has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Electronics and IT along with IT Industry.The portal will be jointly run by the National e-Governance Division of Ministry of Electronics and IT along with National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) from the IT industry.

6.Prime Minister announces “My Life My Yoga” Video Blogging contest in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a video blogging competition and invited citizens to participate in it during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address to the nation.The ‘My Life, My Yoga’ contest (also called ‘Jeevan Yoga) is a joint effort by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).It focuses on the transformative impact of Yoga on the lives of individuals and it comes as one of the activities related to the observation of the sixth International Day of Yoga (IDY) coming up on June 21.Through the competition, the Ministry of AYUSH and ICCR seeks to raise awareness about Yoga and to inspire people to prepare for and become active participants in the observation of IDY 2020.

7.Centre approves Rs 1,407 crore for implementation of Jal jeevan mission in Assam during 2020-21

Centre has approved Rs 1,407 crore for implementation of Jal jeevan mission in Assam during the year 2020-21.Centre has also allocated over 1 thousand 832 crore rupees for implementation of Jal jeevan mission in Bihar during 2020-21.Assam has planned to provide functional tap connections to 13 lakh rural households in 2020-21, out of total 63 lakh households.The state has planned to immediately provide household tap connections to all remaining households belonging to weaker and marginalised sections on a priority basis. Jal Jeevan Mission was announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year aims to provide tap water connections to 18 Crore rural households of the country by the year 2024.

8.UP becomes first state to prepare one lakh beds for COVID-19 patients

Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to prepare one lakh beds for COVID-19 patients.Each of the 75 districts has dedicated beds for patients in the respective facilities.The beds in the hospitals are classified into three categories- Level 1, level 2 and level 3.While level one and two beds are for patients exhibiting mild symptoms, level three beds are meant for graver infections.Level three hospitals will have ventilator support as well as ICU facilities for the patients, besides having provisions for dialysis.

9.Govt bans file sharing website ‘WeTransfer’ citing security reasons

The government has ordered internet service providers to block computer file sharing website WeTransfer due to security reasons.The order issued by the department of telecom on May 18 directed all ISP to block two download links on the Dutch website WeTransfer and also the entire website www.wetransfer.com.The DoT has received reference from the ministry of electronics and IT to block the website and two download links immediately.Exact reason for blocking of the website could not be ascertained.

10.Arun Singhal appointed as CEO of FSSAI

The appointment of Arun Singhal as Chief Executive Officer of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.Arun Singhal is currently serving as the special secretary to the department of health and family welfare.He will replace GSG Ayyangar as the CEO of the food regulator.FSSAI is the food regulatory agency in India which is in charge for setting up standards for the food industry and also to regulate the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import of foods.FSSAI works under the purview of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

11.Music composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame dies due to COVID-19

Music composer, director and singer Wajid Khan died due to COVID-19.The 42 year old music composer was also suffering from kidney ailments and had undergone a kidney transplant a few months ago.Wajid Khan, of the famous Sajid-Wajid music composer duo, composed most of the songs of actor Salman Khan’s movies.

12.Former Olympic sprint champion Bobby Morrow dies aged 84

American sprinter Bobby Morrow, who won three gold medals at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, died.Morrow won gold in the 100 and 200 metres and anchored the US to victory in the 4x100m relay, in which they set a world record.He is one of the four men to win these three events at a single Games, alongside Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt.He was named Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” in 1956 and set 11 ratified world records during his career.
