1.India withdraws from multilateral military exercise in Russia next month

India has announced that it is withdrawing from multilateral Military Exercise ‘Kavkaz’ 2020 to be held in Russia next month.In view of Pandemic and consequent difficulties in exercise, including arrangements of logistics, India has decided not to send a contingent this year to Kavkaz-2020.India had earlier planned to send around 150 Indian Army troops, 45 Indian Air Force personnel and a number of Navy officers to the multilateral military exercise to be held in the Astrakhan region in southern Russia from 15th to 26th September.

2.India, Singapore sign Implementing Arrangement on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief

India and Singapore signed Implementing Arrangement on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief.The two countries held a Defence Policy Dialogue via video conferencing .It was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and Permanent Secretary (Defence), Singapore Mr Chan Heng Kee.Both sides held discussions on a number of issues of bilateral defence engagements between India and Singapore.Both sides committed to further enhance the security partnership between the two countries.

3.Online nominations for Padma Awards 2021 will remain open till Sep 15

Online nominations  for the Padma Awards -2021 will remain open till 15th September.Nominations for Padma Awards to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2021 have started from 1st of May.The Padma Awards, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, are amongst the highest civilian awards of the country.Instituted in 1954, these Awards are announced on the occasion of the Republic Day every year.The award seeks to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements and service in all fields and disciplines.

4.Para swimmer Satyendra Singh first Divyang sportsperson of country to get prestigious Adventure Award

Para-swimmer Satyendra Singh Lohia of Madhya Pradesh is the first Divyanga Indian sportsperson of the country, who has been awarded with the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award.He is also the first Asian Divyang swimmer to cross the 42-kilometer Catalina Channel in the US in just 11 hours 34 minutes.Para-swimmer Satyendra Singh was also conferred with the Best Sportsperson National Award by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on World Divyanga Day.He has also been awarded the highest sports award of Madhya Pradesh as well as many other national and international honours.

5.Government  enhances prize money in Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dronacharya awards

The prize money in four of the seven categories of the National Sports and Adventure Awards has been enhanced.The prize money for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award has been increased to 25 lakh rupees from the previous amount of 7.5 lakh rupees.Arjuna Award has been enhanced to 15 lakh rupees from 5 lakh.The Dronacharya (Lifetime) awardees, who were earlier given 5 lakh rupees will now be given 15 lakh rupees as cash prize, while Dronacharya (Regular) will be given 10 lakh instead of  5 lakh rupees per awardee.Dhyanchand Awardees will be given 10 lakh rupees instead of 5 lakh rupees.

Alexander Kristoff won the opening stage of the Tour de France, the annual multiple stage bicycle race.Rain made the roads treacherous and led to several crashes.The Tour de France rolled out from the French Riviera city of Nice, two months later than planned and under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic.Since its inception in 1903, the race has only been canceled during the two world wars.The Tour de France is an annual men’s multiple stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries.It consists of 21 day-long stages over the course of 23 days.It has been described as “the world’s most prestigious and most difficult bicycle race.

7.Dwayne Bravo becomes first bowler to scalp 500 wickets in T20 cricket

West Indies All-Rounder, Dwayne John Bravo became the first bowler in cricket to scalp 500 wickets in Twenty20 matches.He achieved the feat in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 match between his team Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Zouks.Bravo took the wicket of Rahkeem Cornwall (18) to register his 500th wicket. Dwayne Bravo achieved the feat in his 459th match in the shortest format.Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga is the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 389 scalps from 339 matches followed by Sunil Narine (383), Imran Tahir (374), and Sohail Tanvir (356).

8.‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman passes away

Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman passed away after a four-year battle with colon cancer.He made his acting debut in the TV series “All My Children” in 2003.He made his big-screen debut in 2008 in the biopic The Express: The Ernie Davis Story where he played Floyd Little.He played the famous Black Panther role in the Marvel cinematic universe.

9.‘Scooby Doo’ co-creator Joe Ruby passes away

Joe Ruby, the co-creator of the cartoon series Scooby-Doo, has passed away due to natural causes.Ruby, an American animator, television editor, writer, and producer, created the much-loved characters of beloved kids show Scooby-Doo, along with his creative partner Ken Spears.Together, the pair started their own production company Hanna-Barbera Productions and created other memorable cartoons as well.

10.BJP to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday as ‘Seva Saptah’ from Sep 14-20

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will resume its services from 7th of September in a calibrated manner with new guidelines.Metro services will be resuming for the public after being shut for more than five months due to Coronavirus pandemic.For the time being, no token will be issued to passengers due to its high risk of spreading the virus.Passengers will be allowed to travel only with smart cards.All measures will be taken to ensure the mandatory social distance of one meter between passengers in the train and marking of seats will also be done to ensure social distancing.Besides, metro staff and additional Civil Defence Volunteers will be deployed to ensure that the station does not get crowded.Provision of sanitizers will be made at every station and wearing a mask will be mandatory.DMRC Managing Director : Mangu Singh
