1 China’s landing on the darkest part of the moon
On June 2, China ‘s space mission Chang’e-6 Moon Lander made a successful landing on the dark side of the moon. This moon lander was launched on May 3, which reached its destination after about 1 month. According to China’s space agency, the Chang’e-6 lander landed in the South Pole-Aitken Basin of the Moon. From here it will start collecting samples of the surface of the moon. Through this mission, China wants to become the first country to bring samples from the dark side of the moon . Landing on this part of the moon is more difficult than other parts. This part of the moon is dark, it is rough, where contact is difficult. The samples of the Chang’e-6 lander will provide clues related to the formation and development of the moon, earth and the solar system. For the first time, China did this through its Chang’e-4 mission in 2019. By 2030, China is planning to send astronauts to the moon.
2 India created a world record in Lok Sabha elections, 64.2 crore people voted
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that India has set a world record by the participation of 64.2 crore voters including 31.2 crore women in the Lok Sabha elections this year. in the Lok Sabha elections this year. Addressing a press briefing, he said over 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world’s largest electoral exercise. Chief Election Commissioner Kumar said nearly four lakh vehicles, 135 special trains and 1,692 air flights were used to conduct the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said only 39 re-polls were held in the 2024 general elections, while 540 re-polls were held in 2019.
3 Former BrahMos engineer Nishant Agarwal sentenced to life imprisonment
On June 3, the Nagpur District Court of Maharashtra sentenced Nishant Agarwal, former senior systems engineer of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited, to life imprisonment . He has been sentenced to this punishment for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. Initial investigation by the investigating agencies revealed that Nishant used to send information related to BrahMos missile to ISI through code games. The lower court sentenced him to life imprisonment (14 years) under sections 3 and 5 of the IPC and the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000. Nishant worked at the Technical Research Center of the Nagpur-based Missile Center of BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited, where he worked for four years. BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia’s Army Industrial Consortium.
4 Jaya Bharti Sayani becomes acting chairperson of NHRC

5 ‘Codeshare’ agreement signed between Japan and India
On June 3, Japan Airlines signed a codeshare agreement with IndiGo . This will help the Japanese airline to extend its services to 14 destinations of the domestic airline network. Currently, Japan Airlines operates its services from Tokyo to Delhi and Bangalore. It operates a daily flight from Haneda Airport to New Delhi. Three flights a week are scheduled from Narita Airport to Bangalore. Passengers traveling to and from India and Japan will be able to book their flights on a single ticket. Japan has agreements with Air India and other airlines in India.
6 The Department of Neuro Surgery at Tata Memorial Centre has acquired state-of-the-art, first of its kind in the country, advanced intraoperative imaging equipment for complex brain tumour surgeries
The Department of Neurosurgery, Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai has recently acquired a state-of-the-art Intraoperative Ultrasound (IUS) machine to perform complex internal brain tumour surgeries. The Neuro Surgery team of Tata Memorial Centre, led by Dr. Ali Asghar Moiyadi, has pioneered the application of IUS in India, and is one of the leading teams worldwide. IUS is cost-effective and with proper training, can become an important adjunct in the medical equipment of neurosurgeons. The BKActive machine, which was recently acquired by the department, is the first installation of this advanced Intraoperative Ultrasound (IUS) system in the country. Intraoperative imaging is crucial for the safe and accurate removal of internal complex brain tumours. Combined with navigational assistance (which is like a surgical GPS system), the IUS machine allows the neurosurgeon to accurately track the tumour remnants. Furthermore, when combined with brain mapping techniques such as awake surgery, they are able to radically remove tumors, even near vital areas of the brain.
7 Goldman Sachs raises India’s GDP growth forecast for 2024 to 6.9%
Goldman Sachs has revised its GDP growth forecast for India for calendar year 2024 , raising it by 20 basis points to 6.9% from the previous estimate of 6.7% This adjustment comes after a stronger-than-expected GDP growth of 7.8% for the January-March 2024 quarter, driven by strong investment demand and a recovery in consumption. For fiscal year 2024-25, Goldman Sachs has projected India’s GDP growth rate at 6.8%. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) recently reported that India’s GDP grew by 7.8% in the fourth quarter of 2023-24, mainly led by a strong performance in the manufacturing sector.

On August 19, 1982 , a special session of the United Nations General Assembly focused on the plight of Palestinian and Lebanese children due to Israeli aggression during the Lebanon War.
