1 Shri Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term in New Delhi

Shri Narendra Modi  took   oath as  Prime Minister for the third consecutive term  in  New Delhi . President Draupadi Murmu  also administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Union Council of Ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan.  31 Cabinet Ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 36 Ministers of State  were sworn in. Senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Dr. S. Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP President J.P. Nadda were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several leaders from neighbouring countries and the Indian Ocean region.  President of Sri Lanka Ranil WickremesinghePresident of Maldives Dr. Mohammad MuizzuVice President of Seychelles Ahmed AfeefPrime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina ,  Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth ,  Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’  and  Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay  attended  the ceremony. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar , Chief Justice  Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud , Congress President  Mallikarjun Kharge , Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United President  Nitish Kumar , Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate  N Chandrababu Naidu , Uttarakhand Chief Minister  Pushkar Singh Dhami , Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister  Yogi Adityanath , Manipur Chief Minister  N Biren Singh , Haryana Chief Minister  Nayab Singh Saini  and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister  Ajit Pawar  attended the ceremony.  Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister to be elected for the third consecutive time  after  the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru  . Earlier, Narendra Modi served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms since the year 2014. Mr Modi  also has the distinction of being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat  from October 2001 to May 2014 .

2 Netherlands becomes India’s third largest export destination

The Netherlands is set to become India’s third largest export destination in the world in 2023-24  after  the US and the UAE  . It is also one of India’s top trading partners in Europe after Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Belgium. India’s exports to the Netherlands are set to grow by around 3.5% to reach US$ 22.36 billion in 2023-24 from US$ 21.61 billion in 2022-23. The Netherlands will contribute 2.36% to India’s total trade in 2022-23. India will receive foreign direct investment (FDI) of around US$ 5 billion from the Netherlands, up from US$ 2.6 billion in 2022-23.

3 Naat Pratha: NHRC’s initiative against a social curse

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)  has issued notices to   four states-  Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat . The notice follows a 2020 case in which a father sold his daughter for ₹2.5 lakh and later filed a complaint with the commission after he came to know of her death.  The commission’s directions in the matter come after it intervened in a complaint on July 15, 2020 by the father of a minor girl who claimed that the child was allegedly abducted from Salamgarh area of ​​Pratapgarh district in Rajasthan. Her body was found at Danpur in Banswara district. “The Commission conducted a spot inquiry through its investigation department. It was found that the father himself sold her to a person for ₹2.5 lakh as part of a marriage deal. The Commission shared this information with the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development on March 18, 2024, who were also of the same opinion that ‘nata pratha’ is degrading to women and needs to be abolished,” the statement said.

4 IBBI issues guidelines for appointment of Insolvency Experts (IPs)

Recently,  the Insolvency and  Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has  issued new guidelines for appointing Insolvency Professionals (IP)  as interim resolution professional, liquidator and bankruptcy trustee. Under the new guidelines, a panel of IPs will be established with a validity of six months. To avoid administrative delays, the panel will be shared with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT). To qualify for the panel, the IP should not have any disciplinary proceedings or conviction in the last three years. The IP will get authorization for assignment, the validity of which will remain till the validity of the panel (up to 6 months).

5 RBI approves acquisition of 70% of Kotak General by Zurich Insurance for Rs 5,560 crore

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  has   approved the proposed acquisition of  70% stake  in  Kotak Mahindra General Insurance Company Limited (KGI) (Target)  by  Zurich Insurance Company Limited for a total consideration of approximately Rs 5,560 crore  . Zurich Insurance Company Limited (Acquirer) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Insurance Group Limited (Zurich Insurance Group) headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.

7 Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz wins his first French Open title

Spain  ‘s  Carlos Alcaraz  has won   his  first French Open title.  Alcaraz  defeated Germany  ‘s  Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the men’s singles final in Paris  . Alcaraz has also become the second youngest player to win major titles on all three types of courts (red gravel, grass court and hard court).

8 Tennis: India’s Sumit Nagal won the Heilbronner Neckarcup tournament

In tennis  , India’s  Sumit Nagal  has  won  the Heilbronner Neckarcup tournament  in   Germany . He defeated Switzerland’s Alexander Ritschard 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 in the men’s singles title match. This is his sixth ATP Challenger title  . With this victory, Sumit has almost qualified for the upcoming  Paris Olympics  . He also achieved an all-time high world ranking of 77 in the live ATP rankings.

International Archives Day is celebrated   every year  on 9 June  . It is organised to draw people’s attention towards the importance of keeping records and documents safe for a long time  . More than 2 thousand people from all over the world participated in the international conference held in Vienna, the capital of Austria in the year 2004. In this conference, the resolution to celebrate International Archives Day was passed. The first International Archives Day was celebrated in 2007.
