1.Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates the new building of National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi

Home Minister Amit Shah at the newly built National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) at the Indian Institute of Public Administration campus in New Delhi .inaugurated. NTRI will be a premier institution of national level and will become the main focus of tribal concerns, issues and matters in the academic, executive and legislative spheres. It will collaborate and network with reputed research institutes, universities, organizations as well as academic bodies and resource centres. It will oversee research projects of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), Centers of Excellence (COEs), NFS and set benchmarks for improving the quality of research and training. Its other activities include providing policy support to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as well as State Welfare Departments, preparing studies and programs to improve or help in the socio-economic aspects of tribal life-style, creation and maintenance of database of PMAAGY- maintenance, Establishment and operation of tribal museums and providing guidelines for displaying the rich tribal cultural heritage of India. Along with this, an exhibition showcasing the achievements of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under the leadership of the Prime Minister will be organized in which more than 100 tribal artisans from across the country will showcase their products and dance artistes.

2.Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the first National Air Sports Policy 2022

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the National Air Sports Policy -2022 for the first time in New Delhi . The objective of this policy is to include India among the leading air sports countries by the year 2030 . Through this policy, 11 air sports including aerobatics, ballooning, gliding, parachuting, powered aircraft and rotorcraftwill be promoted. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Scindia said that this policy will create a strong ecosystem of aerial sports activities in the country. He said that this sector would help in the creation of one lakh jobs and in the coming years the revenue would increase from the present Rs 100 crore to Rs 10 thousand crore. Shri Scindia said that through this policy domestic manufacturing of aerial sports equipment will be encouraged. He informed that Air Sports Federation of India has been formed which will oversee all aspects of these sports.

3.BIMSTEC Foundation Day

Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation – General Secretary of the BIMSTEC Group of Countries, Tenzin Lekfell , has said that BIMSTEC has acted as a bridge by connecting the countries of South and South East Asia during its 25 years in office . Dhaka on the 25th Foundation Day of BIMSTEC (June 6)Addressing a function in New Delhi, he said that the institutional framework of BIMSTEC is being prepared very carefully to enhance regional cooperation. BIMSTEC is a regional organization with 5 out of 7 members from South Asia. These include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and two from Southeast Asia, Myanmar and Thailand. This sub-regional organization came into existence in the year 1997 through the Bangkok Declaration. Initially it was formed with four member states abbreviated as ‘BIST-EC’ (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation). Its name was changed to ‘BIMST-EC’ after the inclusion of Myanmar in the year 1997. The name of the organization was changed to Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation in 2004 after Nepal and Bhutan joined it.

4.Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya released the logo of ‘Ayurveda Aahar’ on the occasion of World Food Safety Day

Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has said that the dream of a developed India will come true only when its citizens are healthy. Addressing the World Food Safety Day celebrations in New Delhi , Dr. Mandaviya said that healthy citizens build a better society. On this occasion, Dr. Mandaviya presented the logo of Ayurveda diet.also issued. This will help in creating a unique identity of Ayurveda diet for easy identification and conferring health and wellness protection benefits. On this occasion, the Health Minister, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India-FSSAI. Fourth State Food Security Index of SFSI also released. Its objective is to track the activities in the states regarding the five standards of food safety. Shri Mandaviya said that this index will help in providing safe and nutritious food to the citizens. This index is being released from 2018-19 for a competitive and positive change in the food security ecosystem in the country. This is the fourth index in this regard.

5.Defense Ministry amends rules for appointment of next Chief of Defense Staff

The Defense Ministry has issued three separate notifications amending the rules of the Army, Navy and Air Force for the appointment of the next Chief of Defense Staff – CDS. A three-star Lieutenant General of the Army, Air Marshal of the Air Force and Vice Admiral of the Navy or retired Chief of Army Staff or three-star officers can be appointed as Chief of Defense Staff-CDS if deemed fit in the public interest. The age of such officer should not be more than 62 years. The post of CDS has been lying vacant since the death of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on December 8 last year.

6.NATO conducts naval exercises in the Baltic Sea with NATO allies and partners

Under the leadership of the US , NATO began a nearly two-week-long naval exercise in the Baltic Sea . It includes more than 7,000 sailors, airmen and sailors from 16 countries, including two countries interested in joining NATO – Finland and Sweden .The annual Baltops naval exercise, started in 1972, is not conducted in response to any specific threat. The military alliance said that ‘NATO will demonstrate its joint strength resilience and strength by engaging with the two willing Nordic nations, with both Sweden and Finland participating’. Both Finland and Sweden have a long history of military non-alignment. Before their governments decided to apply to join NATO in May. Both countries have taken this decision due to the fear of Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine.

7.India and Canada sign climate action agreement

India and Canada have signed an agreement to enhance bilateral cooperation on climate action, environmental protection and conservation. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and his Canadian counterpart Steven Gilbault signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the ‘Stockholm Plus 50’ meeting Signed. This meeting is being organized to commemorate 50 years of Stockholm Conference which was the first United Nations Conference on Environment.

8.The theme of this year’s World Blood Donation Day is Blood Donation for Solidarity.

The Health Ministry reviewed the preparations for the World Blood Donation Day with all the States and Union Territories . On this day, gratitude is expressed to those blood donors who voluntarily donate blood to save lives of people. World Blood Donation Day will be celebrated on 14th of this month. The theme of this year’s World Blood Donation Day is Blood Donation for Solidarity .

9.Shreyas Hosur creates history by becoming the first railway officer to complete the ‘Ironman’ triathlon

Shreyas Hosur , Deputy FA&CAO, South Western Railway has made Indian Railways proud by becoming the first railway officer to complete the tough ‘ Ironman ‘ triathlon and the first officer from the civil services without uniform . The event consisted of swimming of 3.8 km, cycling 180 km and running 42.2 km. Shreyas completed it in 13 hours 26 minutes on June 5, 2022 in Hamburg, Germany. The finisher of the competition is known as the ‘Ironman’, which corresponds to the mental and physical strength required to compete. The event began with a 3.8 km swim in the cool waters of Hamburg Lake at 6:30 am, followed by a 180 km long cycling event in the rural area and ended with a full marathon of 42.2 km.

10.President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurates the Conference of Vice Chancellors of Central Universities and Directors of Institutions of National Importance

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a two-day conference of Vice Chancellors of Central Universities and Directors of Institutions of National Importance at Rashtrapati Bhavan . The President is the visitor of 161 central higher educational institutions. Out of these, 53 institutions are participating in the conference and the rest have participated through virtual mode. Various topics will be discussed in different sessions of the conference. These are- Role and Responsibility of Higher Education Institutions in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, International Ranking of Higher Education Institutions, Academia and Collaboration between Industry and Policy Makers, Integrated Schooling, Higher and Vocational Education, Education about Emerging and Disruptive Technology and research.

11.Union Minister of Communications attended the inaugural ceremony of the World Summit of Information Society (WSIS) 2022 in Geneva

Recently, the Union Minister of Communications addressed the World Summit of Information Society (WSIS) 2022 in Geneva , Switzerland .India, where India displayed its telecommunication prowess during multilateral and bilateral engagement. The partnership concluded with India’s re-election as the President of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council for the year 2023-2026. India has been a member of the ITU since 1869 and has been actively participating in the affairs and activities of the Union. This participation coincided with India’s re-election to the ITU Council. The Global Summit on Information Society Forum 2022 ‘ICT for Development’ represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the community. This forum is on the implementation of WSIS to build networks, Provides structured opportunities for learning and participation in multi-stakeholder discussions and mentorship. The agenda and schedule of this forum will be based on the proposals received during the open consultation process. In addition, the 2022 WSIS Forum will provide an opportunity to monitor the achievements of the WSIS Action Line in collaboration with UN agencies and to serve as a forum to provide information and analysis on the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines since 2005.

Albania ‘s parliament has elected a top military officer, General Major Bajram Begaj , as its new president after no candidate was nominated in three rounds of voting . Outgoing President Ilir Meta signed the decree relating to the stepping down of Begaz as Chief of General Staff of the AAF. Prior to this, Bajram Begaz was the Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF). He is the 8th President of Albania and the third President by military rank.

13.TCS retains 10th position among global BPM providers in 2021

According to the Everest Group , TCS has maintained its tenth position among the top BPM (Business Process Management) suppliers worldwide in 2021 . The ranking is based on a combination of revenue (TCS has over $3 billion in revenue) and revenue growth (14-16 percent from 2020). ADP , Teleperformance , Accenture , Concentricx , and Sietel GroupThe top five were BPM companies in terms of sales. The top five fastest growing corporations year over year were Tech Mahindra, Telus International, Majorelle, Teleperformance and Comdata. BPM businesses of Infosys, Wipro and Tech Mahindra were ranked 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively with revenues of US$ 1.3 billion, US$ 1.4-1.5 billion and US$ 675 million respectively.

Mumbai based fintech company Kiya.ai has launched India’s first banking Metaverse . The company has named it Kiyaverse . It can be used by banking and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to conduct virtual interactions. In the first phase, Kiavers will allow banks to extend their own metaverse to clients, partners and employees through the service, which will include relationship managers, peer avatars and robo-advisors. Kiyaverse plans to hold tokens in the form of NFTs and support CBDCs to enable open finance in the Web3.0 environment.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) , Mukesh Ambani has replaced Gautam Adani , Chairman of the Adani Group , as the richest person in India as well as Asia. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani who has a net worth of $99.7 billion added $9.69 billion in 2022. Mr. Ambani is followed by Gautam Adani in the list of global billionaires. Adani is ranked ninth in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $98.7 billion. Tesla CEO Elon Musk remains the world’s richest person with a net worth of $227 billion.

18.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the Marine Lifeguard Training Program.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a statewide Marine Lifeguard Training Program to rescue people from drowning . During this, one thousand young fishermen from fourteen coastal districts of the state will be trained to rescue people in distress in the sea or other water bodies. The state has a coastline of one thousand 76 kms, where there are 608 fishermen settlements. About 10 lakh 48 thousand people live in these.

19.7 June: World Food Safety Day

World Food Safety Day is observed every year on 7 June . This World Food Safety Day being observed on June 7, 2021 is the third World Food Safety Day. World Food Safety Day was started by the United Nations in 2019. The day is observed to reinforce the call made by the Geneva Conference and the Addis Ababa Conference in 2019 on “ the future of food security ”. The Addis Ababa Conference was the first international conference on food security. The conference discussed priorities for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals and supported the United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition.

Orlando Jorge Mara , Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic , was shot dead. He was having a meeting in his office at the time of the attack. Six bullets were fired at him. A presidential spokesman has identified the attacker as a childhood friend of the minister.
