1 Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit 600 sixes

Rohit Sharma  scored a half-century   in the  T20 World Cup match played between India and Ireland on June 5.  Rohit is the first batsman in the world to hit 600 sixes in the history of international cricket  . Rohit Sharma completed 600 sixes by playing 472 international matches. Chris Gayle is at number two in this list, who has hit 533 sixes. Shahid Afridi is at number three with 476 sixes. Rohit Sharma also became the fastest player to score 4000 runs in T20 International cricket. He set the record of scoring 4 thousand runs in 2860 balls. Virat Kohli is at number two, who scored 4 thousand runs in 2900 balls.

2 NPCI partners with Peru for UPI

 On  June 5, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)  signed   an agreement with the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BPRP). Under this agreement, NPCI will develop Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in Peru   .  Domestic and international  payment network will be established through UPI in Peru. UPI will provide immediate payment facility to users in Peru. UPI system transfers funds in real time. UPI is active in Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, France, Nepal, UK, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. UPI was launched by the Government of India on 11 April 2016.

3 First meeting of Joint Working Force on Investment between India and Qatar concluded in New Delhi

First meeting of Joint Task Force  on Investment (JTFI) to strengthen  investment cooperation  between  India and Qatar New Delhi   . The Joint Task Force was co-chaired by Ajay Seth, Secretary, Economic Affairs, and Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Malki, Under Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of Qatar. The Joint Task Force reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to promote mutual growth and prosperity, strengthen bilateral relations, and accelerate development in various sectors ranging from infrastructure, investment opportunities and leverage collective potential.

4 Nakshatra Sabha, India’s first astro tourism expedition in Dehradun

To promote  tourism  in the state  , the Uttarakhand government  organized  India  ‘s first astro-tourism event of its kind named  ‘ Nakshatra Sabha ‘ in  Mussoorie . The first astro-tourism event  was held on   1 and 2 June 2024 in the city of Mussoorie, which  is also famous as  the Queen of Hills . The event  was held at  the George Everest summit . The place is quite popular among tourists as from here tourists can view the Doon Valley and the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains.  . The state tourism ministry is planning to organise a series of Nakshatra Sabhas at popular tourist destinations of this hill state.

5 Former PM Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah becomes the new Crown Prince of Kuwait

Sheikh Meshaal  recently  dissolved parliament for four years  amid widespread political chaos in  Kuwait . Kuwait’s emir  has named  the tiny country’s new crown prince  nearly six months after taking the throne. Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah  will be the next heir to the throne.

6 Godavari Biorefineries inaugurates biochemical plant

On June 6,  Godavari Biorefineries Limited  of   Somaiya  Group  inaugurated a  new biochemical plant  in  SakkarwadiMaharashtra  . Bio-based chemicals  will be manufactured in this plant. Biobutanol, coatings, resins, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and fragrances will be manufactured in this plant. Special chemicals are made using green chemistry in Godavari Biorefineries. Godavari Biorefineries was established in 1956, whose headquarters is located in Mumbai. Godavari Biorefineries was formerly known as Godavari Sugar Mills Limited. Sameer Somaiya is the Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited.

7 NVIDIA became the second most valuable company in the world

On June 5,  US  semiconductor chip making company  NVIDIA Corp   became  the world’s second most valuable company . The company’s market cap  has reached $3.01 trillion (about Rs 251 lakh crore). NVIDIA has  surpassed Apple to  become the world’s second most valuable company. Apple’s market cap is $3 trillion (about Rs 250 lakh crore). NVIDIA’s share has increased by 216.76% in the last one year and 3,265.59% in the last 5 years. Earlier, in 2002, NVIDIA’s market cap was more than Apple’s market cap. At that time, the market cap of both the companies was less than $10 billion. NVIDIA has four engineering development centers in India. These centers are located in Hyderabad, Pune, Gurugram, and Bengaluru.

8 Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft takes flight

On June 5 , the Boeing Starliner mission  was launched  at 8:22 pm Indian time  . In this , Indian-origin astronauts Sunita Williams  and  Butch Wilmore were sent  to  the International Space Station (ISS)  . Wilmore and Williams will stay in the ISS for about a week to test the Starliner spacecraft and its subsystems. Sunita Williams has become the first woman to fly into space on Boeing Starliner in the first crew mission. Butch Wilmore was also with her. 59-year-old Williams has created history by becoming the first woman to fly on the first mission of a new human-rated spacecraft. If the mission is successful, this spacecraft will be used for rotational missions. This mission was aborted on 1 June and earlier on 7 May. Sunita Williams has spent 322 days in space in two missions. Butch Wilmore has spent 178 days in space in two missions. ISS has been built by America’s NASA, Europe’s ESA, Japan’s JAXA, Russia’s ROSKOSMOS and Canada’s CSA. The ISS revolves around the Earth at a speed of about 28,000 km per hour.

9 Oleg set a record for completing 1000 days in space

On June 5,  Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko  set   a  world record for staying in space for the longest number of days. 59-year-old Oleg has completed his 1000 days in space.  He  flew to  the International Space Station (ISS)  on September 15, 2023. Oleg Kononenko has broken  Gennady Padalka  ‘s record. Gennady Padalka spent 878 days in space. Oleg Kononenko will return to Earth in September 2024. He took his first flight in April 2008 and spent 200 days in space. Oleg Kononenko was born on June 21, 1964   in Turkmenistan .

10 Fire broke out in the famous Maharani temple in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, the temple was completely burnt

 The famous Maharani temple  situated on a hill in the tourist destination  of  Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir was completely burnt  due to  a massive fire . This is a famous temple, which has great religious significance. This temple is a popular pilgrimage site in the Kashmir Valley. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has started an investigation to find out the cause of the fire. The  popular song ‘ Jai Jai Shiv Shankar ‘ from Rajesh Khanna  and  Mumtaz  ‘s film ‘ Aap Ki Kasam ‘ was filmed in this temple.

11 C-DOT wins UN’s WSIS 2024 “Champion” Award for the category “Mobile-enabled Disaster Resilience through Cell Broadcast Emergency Alerting” at the high-level event World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum 2024 held in Geneva

Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) , the premier telecom R&D centre of Government of India   ,  has been conferred with the UN  WSIS  2024 “Champion” award for the project  “ Mobile-enabled Disaster Resilience through Cell Broadcast Emergency Alerting ”, recognized under AI, C-7, e-Environment in the category of  ‘ Benefits in all aspects of life – e-Environment ’. The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum 2024, a high-level event organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) from May 27 to May 31, 2024 at Geneva, Switzerland  , recognized C-DOT’s Cell Broadcast Emergency Alerting Platform project for its outstanding contribution towards strengthening the implementation of WSIS findings and underscored C-DOT’s commitment to leveraging technology for societal impact. C-DOT’s mobile-enabled Cell Broadcast Emergency Alerting Platform enables the delivery of life-saving emergency information to mobile phones through cellular networks, with a reach of almost 100,000 people. It is an end-to-end solution for real-time delivery of disaster risk alerts. This indigenous, low-cost and automated system has made it possible to generate geo-targeted multiple hazard alerts with multi-language support, thereby improving the overall efficiency of disaster risk management activities. This initiative is in line with the global ‘Early Warning for All’ (EW4All), International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) – Common Warning Protocol (CAP), ‘Call to Action’ and promotes SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) targets while accelerating country’s capacity building efforts for disaster resilience.
