1. South Africa’s top leader praised the Indian community –

A top South African leader praised the contribution of the people of Indian origin and said that this community had played an important role in the freedom struggle of the country.

Addressing a program of the South African Tamil Association in Johannesburg, David Makhura, head of Gauteng province, said that the South African people of Indian origin have played a key role in the struggle of the country in different eras.

He said that from our fight against colonialism and apartheid to the current time against corruption, the community of Indian origin has always supported us.

1.4 million people of Indian origin live in Gauteng, a center of economy in South Africa .

Referring to the contribution of Thambi Naidu and Bal Shaheed Valimma Mudaliyar, who supported him in the fight against apartheid and colonialism in South Africa, Makhura said , ” Mahatma Gandhi learned the concept of Satyagraha here here. ”

 

2. India on top of countries supplying equipments to France for the International Atomic Atomic Experimental Reactor Research Project –

India is at the top of the supplying equipments to France for the International Atomic Atomic Experimental Reactor Research Project. The purpose of this project is to generate energy from atomic fusion.

The International Atomic Atomic Experimental Reactor is a scientifically experimentation on a large scale , aimed at finding the possibility of formulating energy from fusion for commercial use. India is one of the seven member countries that have hand in the research project in South France. China , USA , Russia , Japan , South Korea and European Union are the other member countries of this project.

 

3. President in Maharashtra; inaugurates Vishwashanti Ahimsa Sammelan –

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Vishwashanti Ahimsa Sammelan at Mangi Tungi, Nasik, Maharashtra. The event is being organised by the Bhagwan Shri Rishabhdev 108 Feet Vishalkai Digambar Jain Murti Nirman Committee. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that in the Jain tradition, the principle of ‘Ahimsa Paramodharma’ is distinguished for human welfare and compassion – not just for the absence of physical violence.

 

4. US-based Dalit Writer Sujatha Gidla Wins Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize –

A New York subway conductor’s story of growing up in a Dalit community in India won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize 2018. Fifty-five-year-old Sujatha Gidla’s “Ants among Elephant: An Untouchable Family and the Making of Modern India”, published by HarperCollins India, beat five other titles in the shortlist to claim the prestigious award. Instituted in memory of editor Shakti Bhatt, the prize honours first-time writers for an outstanding work of fiction or non-fiction.

 

5. India 9th most valuable nation brand in the world –

India ranked one of the 10 most valuable nation brands in the world. In Brand Finance’s annual Nation Brands report, India was ranked 8th last year but slipped by a spot to the 9th rank. India’s brand value is $2,159 billion in 2018. Topping the list and maintaining its lead is US with a brand value of $25,899 billion.

6. Return of this stormy batsman in the Kiwi team for T20 series against Pakistan –

New Zealand has included Hurricane batsman Corey Anderson in the 13-man squad for the T20 series against Pakistan. The 27-year-old Anderson was away from the cricket field for a long time due to injury. Anderson played his last international match in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Regarding his return to the team, Anderson said that I was given the place in the T20 team and I am very happy for this. He said about his injury that he is now doing every work without any problem and at the moment everything is going well. He said that it took a lot of time to return to me after surgery.
