1 Air Marshal Sadhana Saxena Nair takes charge as Director General Medical Hospital Services (Armed Forces)

Air Marshal  Sadhna S. Nair  has assumed charge of the post of Director General, Medical Hospital Services (Armed Forces)  in the office of  DGAFMS  on October 23, 2023  . After being promoted to the rank of Air Marshal, she  has become  the first woman officer to hold this assignment . Air Marshal Sadhna S. Before her appointment, Nair was serving as Principal Medical Officer (PMO) at Air Officer Headquarters Training Command (Air Force), Bengaluru.

2 4th Asian Para Games: India won 12 medals including 4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze

India started its campaign in the   ongoing  4th Asian Para Games  in Hangzhou , China  by winning  12 medals , which  include four gold, five silver  and  three bronze medals . Shooter  Avani Lekhara  won  the gold medal in the 10 meter rifle event  against China’s Jong Ijin by a margin of 2.1 points. 16 year old Rudransh Khandelwal won silver medal in 50 meter mixed pistol competition. Nishad Kumar won the gold medal in men’s high jump event in T-47 category. He broke the Asian Games record in this jump of 2.0 two meters. In the same competition, Rampal and Hong Ji Chen of China were tied for the silver medal. Prachi Yadav won the first silver medal for the country in the women’s canoeing competition. She won this medal in the final of Women’s Canoeing VL-2. India won all three medals in the men’s T-63 high jump competition. In this competition, Shailesh Kumar won gold medal, Mariyappan Thangavelu won silver medal and Ram Singh Padhiyar won bronze medal. Monu Ghanghas won silver medal in men’s shot put event. In men’s club throw, India’s Pranav Surma won gold, Dharambir won silver and Amit Siroha won bronze. India has sent a contingent of 303 athletes in 17 sports disciplines to the Asian Para Games.

3 “Exercise Harimau Shakti-2023” started in Umroi Chhabani, India

 Joint bilateral training exercise between Indian and Malaysian armies ” Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023 ”   began at Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya . The Malaysian contingent comprises soldiers from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army. The Indian contingent is represented by a battalion of the Rajput Regiment. The previous edition of this exercise was conducted in November 2022 at Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia. “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023” will run till 5 November 2023.

4 Dr. Jitendra Singh presented Anubhav Awards 2023

Union Minister of State  , Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the National DLC PortalIntegrated Pensioners Portal  with  Punjab National Bank (PNB)  and  Bank of Baroda for   the nationwide  DLC Campaign 2.0   and also unveiled the Explanation/Case Study Compilation. . He   also presented Anubhav Awards 2023 to 13 award winners  for their articles  . Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Anubhav portal launched on the initiative of the Prime Minister has been very successful. The campaign has resulted in the publication of 1,901 experience articles, the highest number since its inception in March 2015. Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) announced ‘ANUBHAV AWARDS’ for the year 2023.

5 Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah addressed the ‘National Seminar on Cooperative Exports’ organized by National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) in New Delhi.

6 China curbs export of graphite products

Recently  China , the world’s top graphite producer (about 65%)  and exporter,   has   decided to ban exports of the key battery material.  These restrictions are similar to the restrictions imposed from August 1, 2023 on gallium and germanium, two metals essential for chip manufacturing  , which have pushed up prices outside the country. The move is aimed at ensuring China’s national security and controlling the supply of rare minerals in response to challenges to its global manufacturing dominance. Graphite, cobalt, nickel etc. are important minerals as reflected in the Mineral Security Partnership, of which India is not a partner. It also becomes important due to the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), of which graphite is an essential component.

7 RBI imposes ₹2.5 crore fine on L&T Finance for non-compliance

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has  taken regulatory action against L&T Finance Ltd  by imposing  a monetary penalty of ₹2.50 crore  on the company for non-compliance with specific provisions. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently taken regulatory action against L&T Finance Limited by imposing a monetary penalty of ₹2.50 crore (Rupees Two Crore Fifty Lakhs only) on the company. The decision comes in the wake of the statutory inspection of L&T Finance Ltd, which covered its financial position as of March 31, 2021 and March 31, 2022.

8 Sanjay Kumar Jain appointed CMD of IRCTC

 In a significant development for the  Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) , 1990 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer Sanjay Kumar Jain  has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). His appointment comes after the post became vacant following the retirement of Mahendra Pratap Mal in January 2021. His appointment was recommended by the Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) and later approved.

10 EU report recommends 2% global wealth tax on billionaires to curb theft

The EU  Tax Observatory’s ‘ Global Tax Evasion Report 2024 ‘  calls for a  2% global wealth tax on billionaires to tackle tax evasion  , which  would potentially generate $250 billion from fewer than 3,000 people . The European Union Tax Observatory has published the ‘Global Tax Evasion Report 2024’, which calls for a 2% global wealth tax on billionaires. The report emphasizes the urgent need to tackle tax avoidance, which enables some billionaires to effectively pay between 0% and 0.5% of their wealth in taxes.

11 Prime Minister Scheduled Caste Abhyudaya Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Scheduled Caste Abhyudaya Yojana (PM-AJAY)  comprises  of  03 Centrally Sponsored Schemes  namely  Pradhan Mantri Adarsh ​​Gram Yojana (PMAGY)Special Central Assistance to Scheduled Castes Sub-Scheme (SCA to SCSP)  and  Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatravas Yojana (BJRCY). Has been done The scheme will be implemented from 2021-22 to reduce poverty of Scheduled Caste communities by creating additional employment opportunities through skill development, income generation schemes and other initiatives and to improve the socio-economic status of Scheduled Caste dominated villages by ensuring adequate infrastructure and required services. It has been implemented with the aim of improving development indicators.
Three components of this scheme, 1. To develop Scheduled Caste dominated villages as model villages. 2. Grants-in-aid for District/State level projects for socio-economic betterment of Scheduled Caste communities including creation of infrastructure in Scheduled Caste dominated villages, construction of hostels/residential schools, holistic livelihood development in selected villages under Adarsh ​​Gram component. Projects which may include financial assistance for skills development and its related infrastructure development, loans taken by the beneficiaries for acquisition/creation of assets necessary for livelihood. 3. Construction of hostels in higher educational institutions which are ranked top as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Government of India and which are fully or partially funded by the Central/State/UT Governments. Similarly, construction of hostels is included in schools funded wholly or partly by the Central/State/UT Governments and recommended by the Ministry of Education.

12 Mohammed Shami created history by taking 5 wickets against New Zealand

Mohammed Shami  got a chance to play in the ODI World Cup 2023  for the first time  . Captain  Rohit Sharma included him  in the playing eleven in  place of Shardul Thakur  . In the match against New Zealand, Mohammed Shami took 5 wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs. It was because of Shami’s sharp bowling that the New Zealand team could not score a big score in the last 10 overs. He has achieved a five-wicket haul for the second time in the ODI World Cup. He is the first Indian bowler to take five wickets twice in the ODI World Cup. Earlier, he had taken five wickets against England in the ODI World Cup 2019. He is the sixth Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the World Cup.

13 Shubman Gill becomes the fastest batsman to score 2000 runs in ODI

Shubman Gill  achieved   this remarkable feat during India’s World Cup match against New Zealand . He   reached the milestone of 2000 runs in just 38 innings and created a new world record. This feat   overtook the previous record of  Hashim Amla , who  had played 40 innings to achieve the feat.

14 Former Indian cricket team captain and great spinner Bishan Singh Bedi passes away.

President  Draupadi Murmu  and Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  have expressed grief over the demise of  renowned  cricket player  Bishan Singh Bedi . Former Indian cricket team captain Bishan Singh Bedi passed away after a long illness. He was 77 years old. Bishan Singh Bedi  played 67 Tests  for India  between 1967 and 1979 and  took 266 wickets. Apart from this, he also took seven wickets in 10 One Day International matches. Bedi became the first professional head coach of the Indian national team in 1990.
