1.Union Bank plans to raise ?3,500 crore :-

Union Bank of India, the fifth-largest nationalised bank by asset size, plans to raise ?3,500 crore this year to meet its credit growth target of 10%, from 6% last year, said a top official.

“It will be a combination of government’s support and Qualified Institutional Placement issue,” said G. Rajkiran Rai, MD & CEO. “We have asked for 50% support from the government.”

 

2.Government launches ‘SHe-box’ portal for sexual harassment complaints :-

The Minister of Women & Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi launched an online complaint management system titled Sexual Harassment electronic–Box (SHe-Box) for registering complaints related to sexual harassment at workplace in New Delhi.

The complaint management system has been developed to ensure the effective implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (the SH Act), 2013.

This portal is an initiative to provide a platform to women working or visiting any office of Central Government (Central Ministries, Departments, Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Bodies and Institutions etc.) to file complaints related to sexual harassment at workplace under the SH Act.

Those who had already filed a written complaint with the concerned Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) constituted under the SH Act are also eligible to file their complaint through this portal.

 

3.Lucknow Metro to be India’s 1st with own FM radio station :-

The Lucknow Metro will become India’s first to have its own FM radio station, which will provide entertainment and information on metro safety.

It also will offer travellers with ‘Go Smart’ cards drinking water, toilet facilities and WiFi free of charge.

 

4.Maharashtra, Rajasthan record highest cases of child marriage :-

Latest government data show that Maharashtra tops the list in child marriage, followed by Rajasthan. 17 districts of Maharashtra, including Latur, Mumbai and Pune have reported high instances of child marriage.

In Rajasthan, 13 districts, including Jaipur, Ajmer and Bhilwara, have reported increasing incidents of child marriage.

The figures, highlighting the prevalence of child marriage, were stated by MoS, women and child development, Krishna Raj in answer to questions posed in Lok Sabha.

 

5.PM makes aerial survey of flood affected areas of Gujarat; reviews flood relief at a high level meeting at Ahmedabad Airport :-

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today made an aerial survey of flood affected areas of Gujarat.

The Prime Minister also reviewed the flood relief operations at a high level meeting at Ahmedabad Airport. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, other senior ministers and top officials of the State Government, disaster response agencies and PMO.

The Prime Minister was given an overview of the extent of damage caused by floods, and the relief operations being undertaken.

 

6.ICC President discusses GST implementation in Northeast with Dr Jitendra Singh :-

The President of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Shri Shashwat Goenka called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and discussed a wide range of issues including GST implementation and future investment possibilities in Northeast.

 

7.First Two NOPVs Shachi and Shruti Launched by RDEL at Pipavav, Gujarat :-

Reliance Defence and Engineering Limited (RDEL) today launched the first two Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs) at their shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat. The ships are part of a five ship project being constructed for the Indian Navy.

The two NOPVs, Shachi and Shruti were launched by Smt. Preeti Luthra, wife of Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC; the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command at the RDEL Shipyard Pipavav, Gujarat.

A Case Study on the birth of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India – “The GST Saga: A Story of Extraordinary National Ambition” was released here today by the Union Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley in his office in North Block in the national  capital.

In view of the successful roll-out of the GST on 1 July 2017, it was felt that there was a need for the public to know of the story of how GST evolved, its timeline, the different stakeholders involved and how it eventually culminated in its inauguration in the Central Hall of the Parliament of India on the midnight of 30th June,2017 and 1stJuly, 2017 by the President and Prime Minister of India. This case study accordingly captures the entire journey of GST right from its ideation in the Kelkar Task Force Report in 2003.

 

9.GST Council forms a Selection Committee under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary to identify and recommend eligible persons for appointment as the Chairman and Members of the National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST :-

The GST Council has formed a Selection Committee under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary to identify and recommend eligible persons for appointment as the Chairman and Members of the National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST.

The National Anti-profiteering Authority is tasked with ensuring the full benefits of a reduction in tax on supply of goods or services flow to the consumers.

When constituted by the GST Council, the National Anti-profiteering Authority shall be responsible for applying anti-profiteering measures in the event of a reduction in rate of GST on supply of goods or services or, if the benefit of input tax credit is not passed on to the recipients by way of commensurate reduction in prices.

The National Anti-profiteering Authority shall be headed by a senior officer of the level of a Secretary to the Government of India and shall have four technical members from the Centre and/or the States.
