The Global Ratings Agency  has said that India  will be the world’s third largest economy by 2030   , but a major challenge for the country will be to take advantage of the huge opportunity and become the next big global manufacturing hub. This US agency expects India  to be the fastest growing major economy in the next three years  , with  the GDP  growth  rate  increasing from an  estimated 6.4 percent in the current financial year  to 7 percent by 2026 . The Indian economy is expected to grow by 7.2 percent in the financial year 2022-23 ending March 2023. India’s GDP grew 7.8 percent in the June quarter and 7.6 percent in the September quarter.

2 COP28 Declaration on Climate and Health

The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28)  witnessed a significant development as  123 countries, including the US, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and the European Union,  signed  the declaration on climate and health  on December 2  . India has not signed it yet  . The declaration commits countries   to integrate health considerations within the framework of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) . It emphasizes nationally determined contributions, including health perspectives in designing long-term low greenhouse gas emissions development strategies, national adaptation plans and adaptation communications.

3 Chandrayaan 3: ISRO succeeded in bringing the propulsion module from the moon to the earth.

The Indian Space Research Organization   has succeeded in bringing the propulsion  module  of Chandrayaan 3 from the Moon to the Earth . It is  also known as  Chandrayaan’s orbiter . On August 23 this year, the Indian Space Research Organization   had achieved the historic feat of landing  Chandrayaan 3’s  Vikram lander on the South Pole of the Moon. After operating for a month in lunar orbit, about 100 kg of fuel was left in the propulsion module. By bringing it into Earth’s orbit, it can now be used for future lunar missions.

4 NCRB released ‘Crime in India’ report

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released its latest report titled  ‘ Crime in India ‘,  revealing  important trends in crime statistics for the year 2022 . Highlights  include  a significant increase of 24% in cyber crimesa significant increase of 11% in economic crimes  . Crimes against senior citizens increased by 9%  and  crimes against women increased by 4% . The report indicates a rise in cyber crimes, with 65,893 cases recorded in 2022, marking a substantial increase of 24.4% over the previous year. The motive behind 64.8% of these cyber crime cases was fraud (42,710 cases), followed by extortion in 5.5% (3,648 cases) and sexual exploitation in 5.2% (3,434 cases).

5 NCRB releases data on farmer suicides

 According to the latest data from  the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)  released on  December 4, 2023 , the year 2022  witnessed a worrying increase in farmer suicides across India . A total of 11,290 deaths  have been recorded, the data shows  . The data outlines a disturbing trend, with at least one farmer committing suicide every hour in 2022. This worrying pattern has been increasing since 2019, when the NCRB recorded 10,281 farmer suicides. Challenging agricultural conditions marked by drought, untimely rainfall and other adversities in 2022 have further escalated farmers’ struggles. A notable revelation from the NCRB data is that  suicides among agricultural labourers, who depended on daily wages from farming activities,  are higher than among farmers and cultivators. Of the 11,290 persons engaged in farming who died by suicide, 53% (6,083) were agricultural labourers.

6 India and Kenya signed 5 agreements

 Discussions between  Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  and  Kenyan  President  William Samoyi Ruto resulted  in the signing of  five agreements that  will boost cooperation in various sectors such as sports, education and digital solutions . The two leaders   unveiled a joint vision document to enhance maritime connectivity in the Indian Ocean region . The Kenyan side emphasized on cooperation in the agricultural sector as per its laws and offered land for farming to Indian companies. In a significant development, India has committed a US$250 million line of credit to Kenya to modernize its agriculture sector. Modi and Ruto focused on strengthening bilateral ties in defence, trade, energy, digital public infrastructure and healthcare during their talks.

7 Amit Shah inaugurates Khadi Matikala Mahotsav

Union Home Minister  Amit Shah   attended the Khadi Mati Art Festival 2023  in  Ahmedabad . The program   was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission  at  Science City,  Ahmedabad  . On this occasion, electric wheel was given to 300 potters, indigenous charkha to 200 Khadi artisans, toolkits and machinery to 100 beneficiaries, margin money subsidy of Rs 200 crore to 4458 beneficiaries across the country under PMEGP, renovated Central Pune Plant (CSP) at Kuttur, Kerala. ) and inaugurated 8 newly constructed post offices in Ahmedabad through online medium.

8 Railways introduced “Gajraj Suraksha Kavach” to save elephants.

Indian Railways  has  introduced  a new system,  Gajraj Suraksha Kavach , to prevent railway accidents caused by elephants. This system  is completely indigenous  and  Artificial Intelligence (AI)  has been used in it. Gajraj Suraksha Kavach is an  Intrusion Detection System (IDS)  that  detects vibrations from elephants’ feet  by sensing  pressure waves  . This information   is sent to  the station master  through OFC cable . The station master can stop the train based on this information. Railways claims that the detection rate of Gajraj Suraksha Kavach is 99.5% and it can give information about the arrival of elephants 200 meters in advance. Railways has said that Gajraj Suraksha Kavach will soon be launched in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and parts of Tamil Nadu. The target is to deploy this system in all elephant areas of the country within the next 8 months.

9 First Asian Ranger Forum starts in Guwahati

The first Asian Ranger Forum   started in Guwahati . The Forum provides a unique opportunity to collaborate and provide solutions to issues affecting rangers globally. Maharashtra  Forest Minister  Sudhir Mungantiwar  said the Rangers are the true guardians of Asia’s natural heritage. More than 180 participants from 20 countries, including 35 women, 89 rangers and representatives of local communities are participating.

10 IN-SPACe launches seed fund scheme for space tech start-ups

Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center  (IN-SPACe) has launched  a seed fund scheme aimed at supporting start-ups  engaged in  the field of urban development and disaster management   through the use of  space technology. Has started.  The scheme provides seed funding to selected start-ups to develop their original ideas into prototypes using space technology. Additionally, the start-up will receive access to ISRO facility support, mentorship and data algorithms, including Earth observation data for validation. The scheme includes financial assistance up to Rs 1 crore along with training, networking opportunities and mentorship support.

11 Severe cyclone Michong hits between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The government has   launched face and Aadhaar identification based e-KYC of farmers  to ensure transparency in the  Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana . In response to a supplementary question in the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare  Shobha Karandlaje  said that many fake entries have been received to receive funds under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. He said that the new E-K-Y-C has been launched after the release of the 13th Pradhan Mantri Kisan Kosh to ensure transparency and good governance in direct benefit transfer to farmers. Ms. Karandlaje said that the process is very simple and can also be completed through a mobile app.

13 Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2023 introduced in Lok Sabha

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2023  and  the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2023 were  introduced   in  the Lok Sabha . The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill  amends the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act 2004  . This Act   provides reservation in jobs and professional institutions  to people belonging to  Scheduled Castes and Tribes and other socially and educationally backward classes. Whereas, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill   amends the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019 . The proposed bill  will increase the total number of assembly seats from 83 to 90  . In this,  7 seats  are reserved for Scheduled Caste and 9 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe . Also,  the Lieutenant Governor  can nominate two members, including one woman, from the Kashmiri migrant community to the Legislative Assembly .

14 Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan presented National Awards for innovation and excellent practices in educational administration

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship  Dharmendra Pradhan  presented   the National Awards for Innovation and Excellent Practices in Educational Administration at  a function in  New Delhi . These awards   have been given to 65 distinguished district and block education officers for 2020-21 and 2021-22. 15 Ministry of Panchayati Raj launches Geographic Information System application “Gram Map” to promote spatial planning by Gram Panchayat

 Ministry  of Panchayati Raj launched the Geographical Information System (GIS)  application “ Gram Map ” (https://grammanchitra.gov.in)  , with the aim of promoting spatial planning by  Gram Panchayat . This application facilitates and assists Gram Panchayats in planning at Gram Panchayat level using geospatial technology. It provides a single/integrated geospatial platform to improve planning of various developmental works to be undertaken in different areas and provide decision support system for Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP). Further, the Ministry launched M-ActionSoft, a mobile based solution to help capture photos with geo-tags (i.e. GPS coordinates) for these operations. Geo-tagging of assets is done in three stages – (i) before the commencement of work (ii) during the work and (iii) on completion of the work.

16 Indian Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel Sajag arrives at port in Dammam, Saudi Arabia

Indian Coast Guard Ship Sajag , an offshore patrol vessel,   arrived at King Abdul Aziz Port, Edi Dammam, Saudi Arabia on 05 December 2023 on a three-day visit. The visit aimed to strengthen long-standing diplomatic ties and conduct table meetings on Training on Vessel Board Search and Seizure (VBSS), Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), Cross-Deck Visits, Marine Pollution Response (MPR). To enhance cooperative engagement with personnel of Saudi Border Guards and Saudi Naval Forces for professional exchanges/interactions such as TOP exercises.

17 Center approves implementation of fourth phase of GIAN scheme

 After a journey of  eight years ,  including a brief pause during  COVID , the Education Ministry   is preparing to restart the fourth phase  of  the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) . The objective of this initiative  is  to invite eminent scholars from across the world to teach in Indian universities . The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) after evaluating the scheme recommended its continuation. GIAN is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, designed to promote collaboration among Indian educational institutions and enhance the quality of education and research. The primary objective of the GIAN scheme, launched in the year 2015, is to provide students and faculty an opportunity to interact with the best academic and industry experts from around the world.

18 Pilatus PC 7 Mk II aircraft crashes during training flight

Two Indian Air Force (IAF )  pilots were killed  when their  Pilatus  PC-7 Mk II  trainer aircraft  crashed  during  a routine training flight from  the Air Force Academy  in  Dundigal, Telangana  .  The accident is the first involving an aircraft in nearly a decade. Trainer aircraft are special aircraft designed for training pilots and airmen. Because modern military aircraft are complex and challenging for new pilots, trainer aircraft serve as a basic stepping stone. These aircraft are simpler, relatively slower and more economical, which helps novices learn basic skills. They are also cost effective, which enables the Air Force to purchase them in large quantities for cadet training. The Indian Air Force currently operates 75 Pilatus PC-7 Mk II aircraft, which are used for basic training in the first phase of cadet flying training. After basic training, cadets progress to HAL Kiran, an intermediate jet-powered trainer and then BAE Hawk, a British advanced trainer.

Recently,  the Merapi volcano erupted  in West Sumatra, Indonesia,   killing  many  people  as  ash spewed 3,000 meters (9,840 ft) into the air. Mount Merapi, meaning ” mountain of fire “,  is the most active volcano on the island of Sumatra  and its deadliest eruption occurred in April 1979, when 60 people died. Indonesia  is located on the  ” Ring of Fire ” of the Pacific Ocean and has 127 active volcanoes. Despite being one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, Mount Merapi is a famous tourist destination. Mount Merapi remains a popular adventure destination in Indonesia along with other volcanoes such as Mount Semeru and Mount Bromo.

20 “Equitable Phaseout of Fossil Fuel Extraction” report released

 A recent report released at  the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28)  to  the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change  calls on Canada to end fossil fuel extraction by the early 2030s. The report emphasizes the urgency of this action and addresses concerns about the failure of the developed world to meet its “fair share” of emissions reductions. The US, along with the United Kingdom, Norway, Australia and several other countries, is facing a similar demand to end fossil fuel extraction by the early 2030s. The report, titled “ Equitable Phaseout of Fossil Fuel Extraction ”, urges developed countries to exceed the ambition stated in their Nationally Determined Contributions. This suggests that these countries need to more than double their efforts to achieve even a low level of their fair share of emissions reductions.

22 World Soil Day: 5 December

Every year  5 December  is   celebrated as  World Soil Day , this day  is celebrated by the Food and Agriculture Organization . This year its theme- ‘ Soil and water, a source of life ‘.
