1.CII launches new Index to measure fiscal performance:-

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has launched a Fiscal Performance Index (FPI) to assess state and central budgets.The Index incorporates qualitative assessments of revenue expenditure, capital expenditure, revenues, fiscal prudence and the level of public debt arrive at a more holistic picture of fiscal performance than the fiscal deficit to GDP ratio according to the CII.As an example, the index will consider expenditure on infrastructure, education, healthcare and other social sectors beneficial for economic growth compared to other revenue expenditure.The CII has used this index to analyse state and central budgets from 2004-05 to 2016-17.

2.Karnataka Government Has Launched Pink Sarathi Vehicles For Women’s Safety:-

Karnataka government has launched ‘Pink Sarathi’ vehicles that are procured by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). It was launched by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. BMTC will use the vehicles to attend to the grievances of women passengers in city buses.BMTC had received Rs.56.07 crore from the Centre under the Nirbhaya scheme. It has also taken up various measures for the safety of women passengers, including the launch of Pink Sarathi vehicles.The BMTC now has a fleet of 25 Pink Sarathi vehicles fitted with GPS and public announcement systems.

3.Delhi Metro Station Becomes India’s First Project To Receive Power From Waste-To-Energy:-

Delhi Metro became the first ever project in the country to receive power generated from a waste-to-energy plant. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) receiving 2 MW power from a 12 MW capacity waste-to-energy plant set up in Ghazipur.It is being utilized at the Vinod Nagar Receiving Substation (RSS) for meeting the operational requirements of Pink Line of Delhi Metro. It will take approximately 17.5 million units per annum from this plant. The energy mainly depends upon the actual generation of the plant. It is set up by East Delhi Waste Processing Company Limited (EDWPCL).It is based on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) involving the Delhi government and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC)

4.Bihar Government Has Announced To Waive Off 50% Of The Total Taxes Levied On E Rickshaws:-

The Bihar State government has announced to waive off 50% of the total taxes levied on the purchase and running of battery-propelled e-rickshaws. The announcement was made by the deputy chief minister of state Sushil Kumar Modi.

5.Mumbai Ranked First Among 403 Global Cities In Traffic Index 2018 Study:-

An analysis of traffic congestion done in more 400 cities across six continents has found that commuters in Mumbai spent the most time on the road last year.Mumbai ranked first in the study, ‘Traffic Index-2018’, by location technology specialist TomTom, with a congestion level of 65 per cent New Delhi ranked fourth with a congestion of 58 per cent. Mumbai held on to the top rank for the second consecutive year, beat Bogota (63 per cent), Lima (58 per cent) and Moscow (56 per cent).Overall study covered 403 cities in 56 countries and defined congestion as the extra time added to road travel when traffic doesn’t flow freely.

6.UAE Cabinet adopts “National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031”:-

The UAE Cabinet on Sunday adopted the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031 during its meeting at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.One of the most important initiatives is the development of the first ‘National Wellbeing Observatory’ to support the policymaking process.It will monitor a number of indicators of wellbeing in the UAE, submit regular reports to the UAE Cabinet, propose training programmes for government employees, and launch of the Academy of Wellbeing future generations, in addition to the formation of a National Wellbeing Council to manage and coordinate the national strategy.Chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031 aims to make the UAE a world leader in quality of life through a number of strategic objectives and initiatives.It also aims to promote an integrated concept of wellbeing, thus supporting the vision of the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Centennial 2071.The Strategy is based on a national framework of three main levels – individuals, society and the country.It includes 14 components and nine strategic objectives, which include enhancing people’s wellbeing by promoting healthy and active lifestyles, promoting good mental health and adopting positive thinking.The Strategy includes 90 supporting initiatives targeting more than 40 priority areas.

7.ICC World Cup: India beat Australia by 36 runs at Oval:-

In the ICC Cricket World Cup, India recorded a stunning 36-run win over defending champions Australia at the Kennington Oval in London last night. It was the Men in Blue’s second consecutive win of the tournament. They are third in the 10-team table but have played a game less than leaders New Zealand and second placed England.team India produced an exceptional all-round performance to pip five-time champions Australia against whom the Men in Blue had won just one of their last seven World Cup matches before last night’s game at the Kennington Oval. Opting to bat, the Men in Blue rode on man of the match Shikhar Dhawan’s 117 and his 127-run opening wicket stand with Rohit Sharma.India post 352 for 5, the highest total by any side against the Aussies in World Cups. Dhawan’s century was India’s 27th ton, most by any team in World Cup history. Rohit, who scored 57, became the fastest Indian to make 2,000 runs against the Kangaroos in ODIs. Skipper Virat Kohli made 82, which was his 50th half century in one dayers. Defending 353, India then dismissed Australia for 316 to record their second consecutive victory after an opening win over South Africa. India will next play New Zealand on Thursday. Today, South Africa will take on the West Indies at Southampton. The match will begin at 3 PM (Indian Standard Time). All India Radio will broadcast live commentary alternately in Hindi and English. 8.Hamilton wins 7th Canadian GP after Vettel penalty:-

Lewis Hamilton secured a record-breaking seventh win at the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix yesterday after Sebastian Vettel was penalised for dangerous driving. During the race, both Vettel and Hamilton were engaged in a head-to-head battle when the former ran across the grass accidentally, in the process squeezing the Britsh driver when he re-joined the track. The incident led to the stewards awarding a five-second race time penalty to the German driver. Ferrari will appeal against the decision over the five-second penalty given to Vettel which costed him the race.

9.French Open: Rafael Nadal lifts Men’s Singles title for 12th time:-

In Tennis, world number two Rafael Nadal has lifted the French Open Men’s Singles title for the 12th time. In the summit clash played at Paris last night, the Spaniard defeated Austrian fourth seed Dominic Thiem, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 to win at the Roland Garros for the third straight year. The 33-year-old became the first player to win 12 Singles titles at the same Grand Slam and has now won 18 majors overall.Nadal is now just two titles behind Roger Federer’s all-time record of 20 majors and is three ahead of world number one Novak Djokovic. Nadal also took his Paris record to an astonishing 93 wins and just two losses. The win also gave Nadal an 82nd career title and 950th match win.   25-year old Thiem suffered his second Grand Slam final defeat after he lost to Nadal in three sets in last year’s title clash.

10.India Ranks 95 In The Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index:-

India ranked 95th out of 129 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index. India’s score of 56.2 on a scale of 0–100.The index found that no country has fully achieved te gender equality and that the global average score of65.7 out of 100 which falls in the poor category.
Parameters:

  • SDG Gender Index a new index that measures global gender equality considering various parameters such as education, literacy, political representation, poverty, health, and equality at the workplace.
  • The SDG gender index included 51 indicators across 14 of the 17 official Sustainable Development Goals. The list covered 129 countries across all regions of the world.
