1.International Day of Parliamentarism: 30 June

Every year 30 June is celebrated across the world as International Day of Parliamentarism.It marks the day of establishment of Inter-Parliamentary Union, the global organization of parliaments in 1889.On this day parliaments get the chance to take stock, identify challenges, and find ways to address them effectively.

2.International Asteroid Day: 30 June

June 30th is celebrated as International Asteroid Day worldwide. This year will mark the 6th anniversary of World Asteroid day.The day is celebrated to spread awareness about the asteroid, its intensity, and how it will impact planet Earth if it crashes it.The date of June 30th was selected as it marks the anniversary of the Tunguska event.Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation that took place on June 30, 1908.It was the most harmful known asteroid-related event on Earth as it destroyed local plants and animals.

3.Agreement for Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan signed in presence of EAM S Jaishankar

The Concession Agreement for the 600 MegaWatt Kholongchhu (Joint Venture) Hydroelectric Project between Bhutan, Indian government, and Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited was signed in Thimphu.The 600 MW run-of-the-river project is located on the lower course of the Kholongchhu River in Trashiyangtse District in Eastern Bhutan.The Project envisages an underground powerhouse of four 150 MW turbines with water impounded by a concrete gravity dam of 95 meters height.The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

4.Ban on 59 Chinese apps for safety, security and integrity of India

India banned 59 Chinese mobile applications amid border stand-off with the neighbouring country.The government has cited national security for banning these apps.The ban covers some of the most popular apps in India like TikTok, SHAREIT, UC Browser and WeChat.Almost all the apps banned have some preferential Chinese interest and the majority have parent Chinese companies.

5.India, World Bank sign loan agreements for housing sector in Tamil Nadu

The government of India, government of Tamil Nadu and the World Bank signed legal agreements to help low-income groups in the state of Tamil Nadu get access to affordable housing.The legal agreements were signed for two projects – $200 million First Tamil Nadu Housing Sector Strengthening Programme and $50 million Tamil Nadu Housing and Habitat Development Project.The loans will strengthen the state’s housing sector policies, institutions, and regulations.Nearly half of Tamil Nadu’s population is urban, and this is expected to increase to 63 percent by 2030.An estimated 6 million people are currently living in slums (representing 16.6 percent of the state’s urban population).

6.World Bank approves USD 500 million loan to improve education system in 6 Indian states

The World Bank has approved a USD 500 million (about Rs 3,700 crore) loan to improve quality and governance of school education in six Indian states.The board approved a loan for Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program (STARS).These six states are: Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Rajasthan.Around 25 crore students (between the age of 6 and 17) in 15 lakh schools and over 1 crore teachers will benefit from the programme.

7.NFL launches five Mobile Soil Testing Labs for testing the soil samples at farmers’ doorstep

National Fertilizers Limited- NFL has launched five Mobile Soil Testing Labs for testing the soil samples at the doorstep of farmers free of cost.It will give further boost to the Soil Testing facility in the country for promoting appropriate use of fertilizers.Chairman and Managing Director of NFL V N Datt  flagged off one such Mobile Lab from the premises of NFL Corporate Office in Noida.These Mobile Labs, loaded with the latest soil testing equipment will  be used for macro and micro nutrient analysis of soil.

8.Madhya Pradesh launches ‘Hamara Ghar-Hamara Vidyalaya’ campaign

In order to maintain the academic regularity of students during the Corona crisis, the Madhya Pradesh Education Center has prepared a ‘Hamara Ghar-Hamara Vidyalaya’ scheme.Under this initiative children will be taught at home in a school-like environment.In Madhya Pradesh, the school bell will be ringing in the houses of the state too from July 6.Children will read, perform yoga, write and listen to stories and make notes on them.

9.Project Platina – world’s largest convalescent plasma therapy project launched in Maharashtra

In a notable pioneering exercise, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced that his government will use Rs 16.65 crore to sponsor the execution of a convalescent plasma therapy-cum-trial project for treatment of critical COVID-19 patients.This project of therapy and trial is also being dubbed as the world’s largest project of its kind.‘Project PLATINA’-World’s largest convalescent plasma therapy trial cum treatment of severe COVID 19 patients was launched by & inaugurated by CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray.In convalescent plasma therapy, antibodies from the blood of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 are used to treat serious patients.

10.Uttarakhand forest department develops India’s first lichen park in Munsiyari

Uttarakhand forest department has developed what it claims is the country’s first lichen park in Munsiyari.The park is developed across 1.5 hectares in Patalthor. The department had started developing the park in 2019.The park has been developed with an aim to conserve, protect, and cultivate lichens and to create awareness among locals regarding their importance.Lichens need clean air to grow as they perish when the air is polluted.

11.Syed Ali Shah Geelani resigns from All Parties Hurriyat Conference

In Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has announced his resignation from All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G).He was elected as its lifetime chairman in 2003.He named Rawalpindi-based Abdullah Geelani as his successor amid speculation that he was doing ISI’s bidding.All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), or Tehreek e Hurriyat is an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed as a united political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism in the Kashmir conflict.

12.Veteran Kannada novelist Geetha Nagabhushan passes away

Veteran novelist Geetha Nagabhushanpassed away.She was suffering from age-related ailments since recent years.She started her career as lecturer at Nagareshwar College in Kalaburagi and had retired as principal.She had chaired the 76th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held in Gadag in 2010.She was the first woman writer to get Nadoja award of Kannada University Hampi, and first Kannada woman writer to be honored Sahitya Akademi award for her novel ‘Baduku’ in 2004.
